Thanks for the help, Eddie has eaten some teeny tiny bits off the pellets and thrown the rest to the floor! I have left a few in another bowl so will see if he goes back for more. The juice method will be next I think!

We received our small bag of Harrisons yesterday and now Eddie refuses to speak to me. He is well and truly sulking! I took his seeds away for now and replaced them with pellets, in his other bowl he's had fruit for brekkie and some bits of wholemeal toast today which he's eaten but just wont entertain the Harrisons. He's looking at me know with puppy eyes and I just know he's begging for his seeds back!! May put them back in later and try again tomorrow. I don't want him to starve!!

Hi KatB, Eddie is exactly the same. The very first time we went to see him I petted him though the bars and he very kindly bit through the skin of my hand!:pinch: We loved him anyway and although he loves scritches and strokes he will, wihout warning, turn ad bite. As soon as he bites and I jump he shreeks "Owwwww" and then tells the dog off and proceeds to cackle. He gives no warning at all and despite me watching gives no indication that he is about to do it. Other times he will cuddle up and enjoy a whole night without biting. Typical bloke, cannot make his mind up!

Post edited by: Louisejane, at: 2008/03/06 13:53 -
Poor Luther. Don't they pine for their missing egg after 28 days?
-
Notice how its always the guys that have to do it anyway! Eddie's adorable with me and when I put my hands in his cage he kisses and nibbles but he won't let anyone else do this as the guy found out. I bet he went home and told his family what an evil knievel he met today!! Where do you wonk BMustee? I would love to be around birds all day! What a perfect job!
-
Yup, thats exactly it!! Wow, thank you. Its like the end of his beak is much thinner than the top. Theres almost a ledge where its cracked. Poor Eddies not alone! Do you think it will repair itself?
-
Thanks Siobhan, I thought it would be ok as it wasn't affecting his ability to eat but always better to check! The workman was so funny. We had Eddie in his cage as the guy was fixing a window and he walked right passed his cage and actually asked, "does he bite"? So I told him Yes and hard too! On he went with his work and just before he left he leant in and was talking away to Eddie. Eddie was fab, he had his gooey look about him and was pushing his neck up to the bars almost begging the guy to scratch him. So of course, in went the finger and Eddie took his chance. I have never seen anyone jump so high in my life! The absolute icing on the cake was Eddie saying straigt after "Rocky, (our dog)tut tut" and then cackling his head off! I was so impressed! Well, I did warn the guy  Post edited by: Louisejane, at: 2008/03/05 13:25

Post edited by: Louisejane, at: 2008/03/05 14:11

I was just wondering if anyone knows if beakies grow back? When we first got Eddie about a year and a half ago his beak was fine. However, about a week after we brought him home, I notice that some of his beack had broken away. The length of his beack is still the same but its as if several layers have snapped off the outside of his beak about 3/4 of the way down. The end of his beack is very thin now. Its never caused him any problems and I have no idea why it happened but I wonder if anyone knows if it will grow back? I will try and post some pictures tonight when I get home. He used it perfectly fine yesterday to bite the workman who called round. He was warned and still chose to give Eddie a chomp!! :pinch:
-
Thanks! I have ordered a small bag for now to see how Eddie gets on. He's feeling very pleased with himself today as he managed to chomp on a workmans finger yesterday! The guy was warned but chose to stick his finger in Eddie's home anyhow.:pinch:

Thanks MommaFawkes, pellets are winging their way for Eddie as we speak!
-
I was wondering if anyone could advise me where I can get these in the UK? Is there an online ordering page that anyone uses? Thanks in advance Louise

Sorry for calling you Alfie! , just noticed thats your grey!!

Hi Alfie, your grey sounds alot like Eddie and seems to have a taste for everything bad! When we first picked up Eddie from his old home their advice was to buy some Walkers cheese and onion crisps and some minstrels, (chocolate) for him as he loved them. Some people have no idea. He also went mad for chips! Very pleased to say that his addiction to junk food is slowly going away, every once in a while I will let him have a corner of a crisp as a treat. He screeches at the top of his lungs if he see's us eating crisps without sharing so our daughter has to eat hers in secret in her room! He now eats what we eat, I have to give him his own bowl of what we have for dinner, sweetcorn, pea's, brocolli, cauli and potatoes. He also loves chicken! Is this right?? The only fruit he will eat is green grapes, wont touch red and occasionally apple.

Hi Becs, I'm not far from you, York, N Yorks. Would defo be interested in a meet! We've not really been far in recent years due to Eddie not really loving strangers and it is hard for none bird people to be a stand in Mum for a week! We went on honeymoon last year and poor Eddie only came out of his cage once in a week as my Mum was terrified of him. Hey, if I grey sit, Brian can teach Eddie how to be a good boy!! Louise xx

Theres a lovely picture on the Sky News website of another frightened grey from last nights quake. http://yourphotos.sky.com/ I thinks its picture 36.

Hi lovemyGreys, We are in Yorkshire but Eddie was fine when we put him to bed. I think he was as shocked as us as I think he was literally knocked off his perch my the tremors. They were quite strong! I think there will be a few of us.
-
Eddie quacks like a duck and then says "I am not a duck, I'm a baby grey"! It took a while for me to realise I had to say "I" rather than "you". He also ticks the dog off by saying "Rocky, you are so bad" then tuts at him. Theres a million other things, I'm trying to teach him to say pardon me when he makes windy noises!
-
Hi Caroline This happened to our grey last night too. He literally fell off his perch and we found him sat on the bottom of his cage panting and shaking. He was terrified. We had to sit with him and coax him back onto his perch with praise and reassurance. I would maybe leave a light on for him in a corner somewhere tonight. We had to do the same for Eddie as each time we turned it out last night he started flapping about. It scared the heck out of us so it must have been extra scarey for a little grey! I hope he's better soon Caroline.

Poor Eddie is not a happy grey this morning. I am sure most of you already heard about the earthquake in the UK last night, Eddie was completely knocked off his perch and had to be coaxed back onto it with peanuts and scritches. Poor Ed was terrified, hubby on the other hand, slept right throught he whole thing!
-
They make me shudder, they're awful things. Hubby used to buy them from the shop and then transfer them into a cricket keeper. One night I heard this almighty crash and then frantic call for help coming from our room. He had dropped the tub and 30 hopping crickets had escaped all over our bedroom. We kep finding them all over the house for about a week! I slept in my daughters room! I think I would prefer crickets to a tarantula though, were you not more scared of that escaping? I think our beardie will grow to about 2 foot. She's a darling, likes to cuddle up on a night. Eddie is so jealous so I can only let her out when I've gone upstairs so he can't see. He makes bottom burp noises when he's upset! (I blame the husband)
-
She was quite small there. Just a baby when we got her. She was about 6 inches long. She's now about 1 1/2 ft and still growing. I love her to bits but not the food as she has to eat live crickets. YUK!!

Thank you for the welcome! It is so nice to be able to come onto a forum without posting a thread that starts with HELP!! we've had our ups and downs with Eddie but we've come through them and he's a fab companion now. Just wanted to say hello as I'm a newbie here. I am the proud Mum of Eddie an African Grey who we rescued in Nov 06. He was with a family who really couldn't look after him anymore so we brought him home. We think he is around 3 years old now although he could be quite alot more than that. Its taken quite some time but Eddie is a Mummie's boy now and will come and sit with me, let me scrath him and very generously regurgitates for me! Anyone else he ignores or bits much to my hubby's annoyance! He was very defensive when he first came to our home and would lunge and bite and was very scared and nervous. I am happy to say things are much different now and although we still have a long way to go, he is a happy Grey! Sorry for ranting on but I really look forward to meeting some other bird lovers! Louise xx
