Thanks, I think I described this a bit wrong. Its not actually along his breastbone, more at the bottom of his breastbone. Kind of between the bottom of his breatbone and his bottom! Not sure if this is where the breastbone ends or not, just took be unawares!
-
This might sound really silly but I wondered whether or not a birds breastbone sticks out much? Eddie let me stroke his belly last night which he doesn't normally tolerate. When I stroked near the bottom of his belly it felt quite pronounced and bony! Is this normal or something I should get checked out? I have never been able to stroke his tummy before so I'm not sure what should and shouldn't be there!

15 year old grey with an attitude.....suggestions?
Louisejane replied to McKinzie4me's topic in The GREY Lounge
Hi Jeanese Just wanted to say hang in there. Your story is so similar to ours! We adopted Eddie just over a year ago now and he too had been cooped in his cage as his owners had two dogs which they adored. However, Eddie was only two so he hadn't spent that long cooped up but long enough. The first thing he did when we brought him home was bite me so hard I cried! It took me so long to gain the confidence to be near his beak again! I decided to camp out near Eddies cage. We gave him a couple of weeks to get used to the room then I moved the arm chair right next to his cage. I ate next to him, watched TV near him and made everything look really fun! Bit by bit he got more and more interested and started coming onto his bars to get a closer look. I also opened his doors on an evening, it took him months before he would come out and when he did he just stayed on the top of his cage. He then started to come down for treats and then pets and now he behaves like a little kitty and loves to bed down on the sofa and be stroked. However, he does not like my husband all that much so we're starting the basic training all over again but with hubby so Eddie gets used to him too. Its been 17 months now since we rehomed Eddie and we're still getting used to each other but you will get there Jeanese. It takes them a long time to realise you are different to the people who treat them badly but they will come round. best of luck! -
Ooh, forgot to say that I shall post some more pics this weekend Dan. I'll ask him to pose next to the dog so you can compare sizes!
-
I have absolutely no idea how much he weighs Dan, although he's had his checks from the vet, we've never actually had him weighed. When we first got him from his old home, he was so tense and angry with everyone we didn't like to stress him out too much. Starting to think about how to get him on my baking scales this afternoon?? Eddie.... peanut....

  Someone say something??
-
I wouldn't dare call him fat Dan, don't want to risk a revenge nip!!:pinch:
-
If my daughter could do that I would be making serious money from her Jaguar!
-
I'll have to break the news to Eddie tonight that he's just a slighter larger than average Congo afterall, wish me luck!
-
I think Eddie must be a so called "Cameroon" or maybe he just eats way too much!
-
Screaming %$&*!£!!! across the living room when visitors are here:unsure: . My daughter certainly would not get away with this. And I swearthat the language was taught by previous owners.
-
Has Lucy posted a picture of the new guy yet? I'm bursting to see him and maybe a name will be easier to chose and he may just look like a "Sterling", or Ethel"!
-
{Feel-good-000200BB} I never even thought of that Dan, although its me that does the hoovering, thats a genious idea!!

Thanks everyone. Eddie loves me cleaning up the mess as he likes to find extra bits and bobs to throw while I'm doing it! As if I don't have enough to do already!! Yeah JG, I'm sure they would do the same.....

I was just wondering how often greys molt and how I would know when they are molting? Eddie is around the age of 4 now. The last few days I have notice quite a few feathers at the bottom of his cage each time I change the paper. Most of them are red tail feathers and mostly small fluffy ones but there have been two large (I think primary) feathers I have found too. He doesn't look any worse for it but I wondered if this could be a molt or maybe a problem starting to happen? I haven't noticed any plucking although he does clean himself alot, but no more than usual. Any idea's? Thanks!

Eddie does this sometimes too and like you I am unsure whether or not it is nightmares or a call for attention. He genuinley looks terrified though when I get downstairs and is panting and clinging onto the bars of his cage. We thought it may be cats walking past the windows or the tree's blowing outside that he maybe catches a glimpse of.

Has anybody made a play tree/gym for your Grey?
Louisejane replied to Raposa's topic in The GREY Lounge
Wow bond, what a lucky grey!! That's a fab playstand, only wish I could make the same for Eddie! Do you have step by step instructions for dummies? -
Eddie loves to screech at the top of his lungs when he does this. The first time I heard him to it, I thought he'd ripped a claw out!! Is it normal for them to be so loud?
-
The stupid thing is that the dog falls for it everytime! Its seed for goodness sake, is it really worth a nip on the nose for a sunflower seed? Jeez. I am going to have to try and film it as it has to be seen to be believed!
-
Eddie does this a lot too and he's 3 now. He likes to do it because theres a gap at the bottom of his cage and if he pretends to be giving the dog some seed he found at the bottom, he can just nip the end of the dogs nose through the gap!

I think I realised that it was possible last year when we were lucky enough to go to the Maldives on honeymoon. As the smoking was banned in the airports, I ended up going without one for about 16 hours and it was only at the Male airport when I realised I'd not thought about them. It has taken me another 9 months to actually take the leap though. I'm using the 2mg chewing gum. People have said it helps you not put on weight as your chewing instead but I take it out to eat and re use it after! Think I've gained 10lbs but hey ho, according to my quit calender, I've saved £117 and a whole day of my life. WHY DO I STILL WANT ONE?? Keep it up everyone and keep me updated for some motivation and inspiration! Hopefully I can give a little back! xx

Wow, 18 months is great going, I only hope I reach that far before I commit murder!!
-
Hey madness, I'm a newbie (ish) too but you'll find so much help here, its fab! Welcome to you both!!
-
Hi everyone, just stumbled across this page today, its fab. I have been a smoker for 14 years and stopped 3 weeks ago yesterday. It has been hell and jeez my hubby and daugher have suffered!! But Eddie loves it as I've spent loads of time cleaning his cage and changing toys around! Stick with it, I would like to say it does get easier but on only week 3 I would still rob my granny for a cig! It must get better surely??

My Grey only cat whistles and piercing screech
Louisejane replied to Kasia's topic in The GREY Lounge
Hi Kasia As already said, I'm sure that she will statrt talking soon, she has a few months to go yet and is already mimicking whistles, thats got to be a good sign. Eddie is a bit of a closet talker. When we fist got him, we had to stand in the kitchen to hear him talk and he would have some crazy conversations with himself but the minute we went back in the room he played dumb! Now he will talk with me in the room but no one else. The other night, he learned to mimic the cat and was doing the best meow! I had him dancing too which was another first. Everytime I bobbed up and down, (which looked ridiculous) he did the same then laughed. I shouted my husband down the stairs and the minute he got there Eddie stopped flat and refused to do either. Now my family thinks I've been on the pop all weekend! The minute they leave the room he starts again! He knows exactly what he's doing too as he laughs at me when they've gone as if he knows he's got me into trouble!
