  1. Everyonce in a blue moon you may get one that doesn't outgrow it. Most do, but they give us so much outside of cuddling!
  2. I've missed you guys!! I've been finishing a class that required extra working hours, but it is over and I passed my exam!! WooHoo!! I've been so busy that what little free time I've had has be devoted strictly to the critters! But, I am back!
  3. I always keep the eucalyptus far from where it can be eaten by any of the critters. Very good point though!! I would be careful with certain potpurri warmers, at least what herbs you use in them. Some can still be irratating. I am sensitive to a number of things, especially spicy herbs (many of which can actually be respritory irratants). Lemons, oranges and apples should be just fine though.
  4. The Breeders in Metro Atlanta charge around 800-900 for TAGs and 850-1000 for CAGs. I got Greyce at what I was told 18 months for $400, I basically stole her, but I was her third home as well But, the lady really wanted to find her a good home and was more comfortable placing her with me than anyone else that had showed interest. I worked her down from $650.
  5. So I have finally started to switch Greyce to the Harrisons. She loves the bread, but so far she isn't thrilled about the pellets. When I got her she was on the Zupreem Fruit Pellets, I don't like them and I am sorry if I offend anyone...but, anything that turns your poop colors is bad news! So, I got the small bag at the bird show this weekend. Great seller, great price...I may be addicted to shopping at the bird shows now. Anyway, Greyce will eat them...only if she is starving and I don't bend on other foods. However, if I put 8 pellets in the bowl she will throw two down, eat three and then throw the rest down in total protest. However, I am not bending on this. She of course gets her veggies, fruits and such...but, at diffrent times so as to encourage her to eat the Harrison's. So far the little tick is working though she is waisting a bit. I swear the animals all need to get jobs to help with buying the food. They all ran out of food this past week:pinch: over $120 to buy all of their food. Usually I am luck and they run out at diffrent times.
  6. I have yet to meet a Hahn's that I don't like! They are dolls, even the breeders I've met have wonderful personalities even if they aren't very hands on birds.
  7. Tiffani, with as many bird babies as you I am surprised they haven't carried you off yet! {Feel-good-0002006E}
  8. What kills me is that she won't let it go. I put her on her play top, she climbs down, over the table, onto the sofa, straight to the lap top. I put her on the cage, she flies over, climbs up my leg, and to the lap top. Criminy! No amount of discouragement will deter her, she wants to eat it and eat it now and if she can't have it, she wants my ear and in the past few minutes Lily's tail has been added into the mix...I have a very unhappy Chihuahua right now. She wants to sleep and if Greyce can't have the laptop or my ear, then gosh darn it I want Lily's tail!
  9. Well, Greyce has been out and won't stay on her table top play gym. She wants to explore, which is wonderful as it means she is getting more confident here. However, she just grabbed and pulled off the shift key off my company laptop. I spent 10 minutes doing the wobble while I tried to get it out of her mouth before she grabbed it with her foot and bit me. Luckily she did not win and I got it back before she could get it out of her mouth and into her foot. sheesh! She has been a handful tonight. She wants to be right next to me, but getting into mischief! She keeps flying from her cage to me, she won't stay anywhere. But, when she gets to me she either wants to eat the laptop or my ear with a total one track mind!
  10. My guess would be no,and it may not. be the best idea. For the exact reason's Christina said. Costa Rica is a wonderful contry, one of my favorites! However, they view pets in general much diffrent than we do. Additionally getting back into the states would probably end up in a very long quarantine for your baby
  11. See Tari she knew you were talking about her beeing a dud!
  12. Hi Brittany! I think the best advice you are going to get for as to what precautions you need to take when bringing you baby outside would be your avian vet. If you baby hasn't been in the past year, even better as he needs a check up. Many owners take their babies outside, have enclosures, ect. However the precautions we take vary from area to area. Here in Georgia we have a certain set of worries, where in the north they would be diffrent set of worries.
  13. Yea, cutting a nail to the quick can cause a river of blood. It is also very sensitive as well. She should be just fine! I know it is kind of scary if you aren't expecting it. I would suggest if you have any rough pedicure perches to take those out for a few days while it heals. She could bust the seal and start bleeding again.
  14. There is no difference in their talking abilities and some never talk at all. The only way to know for sure if a Grey will talk is by adopting an older bird that is already talking. Voice wise, many do talk in a male voice but that doesn't really have anything to do with their sex. Some will talk in the voice of their preffered person and many will talk in the voice of the rival they compete for attention with.
  15. It is possible that Bella did it on her own. One of my friends Greys has to have a padlock on the cage. He keeps the key on a peg right next to the cage just in case, but otherwise his Grey will always escape!
  16. On thing that may fix the chewing of the natures miracle pads, get some bitter apple (you can get it at petsmart, petco, ect) and spray the edges. It tastes gross to the critters and keeps them from chewing.
  17. I maybe able to offer a bit of help I have two dogs 1 is elderly and with out very frequent baths gets that eu' de Douge smell...peew!:pinch: The little Chihuahua does go outside and on a pee pad, I just can't seem to keep up with how often she needs to go outside and I just can't get her trained to tell me when she does. I use the Nature's Miracle puppy pads and boy oh boy do they make a difference!! They have to be about a week old to smell (found that out by folding one up and putting it somewhere weird before I threw it away and of course lost it) Besides the wonderful Nature's Miracle pee pads (and I am the queen of things have to smell good) I use Natures Miracle spray to freshen up the doggie beds (seems to work the best). I use Febreeze on anything else fabric. I always wheel Greyce out of the room and then bring her back once it is dry. I also use pure lemongrass oil diluted in water as an air freshner...with Greyce out of the room. Additionally I keep freshly dried Eucalyptus in vases, it looks pretty, has anti microbial properties and safly leaves a nice fresh smell. I just change it out as it looses smell...I put it discards out in the garden as it can help with certain bugs. Hope this helps you with some alternatives.
  18. Oh Tari, Que isn't a dud. She just isn't a loud mouth! You are a wonderful mom, the fact that you are concerned that you aren't shows you care that much. A friend of the family has 4 Greys and two will talk your ear to pieces, 1 talks only when he wants something and one rarely makes a peep. I hope that one day Greyce will talk, I know I have had heard a couple of times the start of a word....but I will love her just the same if she doesn't. She isn't the most playful bird in the world. She does play sometimes. But, every bird is different. The only things that might change things up a bit. Do you have a bird room or all they all in the room the family spends the most time? If you have them in a room, then maybe pull her out to the family room or something and see if that brings out a diffrent side of her. It may just be that you have a wonderful quiet bird. It doesn't mean she isn't smart, it just means she isn't a show off!
  19. We have it all in Georgia: snakes, lizards, mice, rats, and incects...yucky poisonous spiders...I get the willies thinking about it.
  20. I too want to bring Greyce out so bad!! I've been taking her out in her carrier some. But, I am too chicken even with a wing clip to let her out with out some sort of insurance. I've heard about too many birds get spooked and catch a breeze. I can't even give her scratches yet. But, I know that forcing things and ruining the progress we've made just isn't worth it. Despite the fact I want so badly for her to enjoy the outside. I have dreams of harness training her and letting her fly....hopefully we will get there and we have a whole life time to do so. Good luck Rickster - you too Ronda!!!
  21. Rickster, I think that this is something you need to come to slowly. You have only had your baby for 1.5 months, it may be a little early for your baby to trust you enough to get on his back. Not to mention some Greys will never tolerate that. They aren't really known for being big on being on the backs (caiques and some Poice. do like it). There are of course some that do, but yours may not. There is a sticky in one of the forums about how to train them to use the harness. I would start slowly with those steps and don't rush. You have developed a great bond with your fid very quickly and you don't want to ruin that with pushing new things too hard. Hope this helps you!
  22. Vaya, There has been a huge influx of great cheifs coming to Atlanta the past few years. There are literally hundreds of fabulous resturants not to mention the hundreds of ones that would be just good. Additionally we have a massive ethnic population, so you can always get authentic ethnic food....YUM!
  23. Greyce has this one whistle that is really loud. It was the first noise she ever made, now that she has other noises and I am totally ignoring that one she uses it less and less. It really doesn't bother me that much, but it is soooo loud I know they can hear it up stairs and even though I want to kick my upstairs neighboor for the noise his dog makes...I don't want to be that neighboor! She came up with a new whistle the other day that made all the dogs leave the room whining. It was a frequency that I don't think humans are intended to hear:laugh: I utterly ignored it and so far she has only used it three times. She did make her first cat Meow tonight...that was a hoot! Now if I could catch that darned word she keeps saying!!
  24. For now I would bring her in the shower with you, not under...but the moisture alone will help. Slowly introduce forms of water to her to find what does it for her. For example put a large, flat bowl with maybe 2 inches or so of water in it in the bath tub. Float some kale leaves, spinach, ect in there and try and make it a game and work your way up from there. As far as the noises go, other than trying to figure out what she wants, ignore it. Try to engourage softer tones making those the ones you pay attention to. Once she learns the loud ones get no response she may trade them in.
  25. Downtown, Atlanta, Georgia in the USA....It was 72 degrees today, come on spring!!
