  1. im not a mod or someone whos been here for a while..but going through threads today i noticed sometimes new members would make a new thread that is completely the same as the one they already posted i think the reason is because thyre having problems navigating around the fourm and finding the threads they already created exmaple: my bird is plucking .. then my bird is plucking # 2 a much more easier way would be click on ur profile ..located at the left just ontop of the logout button then scroll all the way down in your profile youll see a history of threads you posted and ones u replied to i hope no one gets mad at me but i think its important as sometimes this could eat up space easily in the long run.. any thoughts?
  2. when i had an indian ringneck he reached this transitional age between sexual maturity and his baby days..it was wierd he completely turned on me i didnt know what it was until i read that its a stage called bluffing..they turn wild..hormonal and nippy and they tend to test thier boundries im not sure about your bird it could be alot of things..maybe a change maybe bordem one thing for sure is you dont want to reinforce this behaviour if hes doing it for attention..he might not be doing it for attention but my giving him food when he does it ..he willrelate it to '' hey if i do this she will come to me and do things for me'' its wierd i know but it seriously happens..no behaviour happens for no reason specially if its negative..for now id say observe..one does he do it...try to link it..if its something ur doing..at what time of the day etc etc..once u narrow it down a little it might help..try to ignore it...my cat whos mostly indoor cat used to leave the house..when ever i shake his bag of treats he comes back home and i for sure give him one...he started getting a little bit fat after that so idecided not to do it that often..he didnt like it so he started meowing like crazy around the times where he was used to being fed treats so i ignored it..he would want to be let out..then 5 mins come back and start meowing..he thought by leaving the house and coming back he will automatically get treats..he would claw at my leg but i ignored it instead of giving him treats i would praise him so much..so after a while he stopped...how did i get him to come to the house ? id call his name and give him treats BUT NOT ALL THE TIME its called intermited rienforcement which actually is much more effective than reifnorcing all the time..now he comes to the call of his name coz he knows he might be given a treat so he takes his chance and if doesnt get a treat he happy with being priased for coming back..i know my post does not make sense but behaviour tends to be general sometimes i hope this helps...maybe someone much more experienced could awnser ur post<br><br>Post edited by: Abdullah, at: 2008/01/20 03:06

  4. how old is he?katb? i read somewhere that it takes time before they do..maybe you should try saying it in def tones that he might find it funny or some thing again this is a subject thats not written in stone so u cant for sure tell but age plays a part right?
  5. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/911-food-that-is-considered-as-toxic-to-african-greys.html
  6. http://www.itsagreysworld.com/diet/food.htm hope that helps...what u can do is go to the search feature at the top of the fourm and search in that one
  7. hey chasey welcome to the fourm please assure us and tell us this is not your first time breeding it def should not be taken lightly i had a lovebird once was tame but did not know the sex ..and i got another lovebird placed them together they got along fine what i didnt know however is they were male and female both sexually mature ..didnt really wanna breed them but they ended up mating and the female got egg bound and died please be careful also the risk of it becoming not tame after you breed them..so many things could go wrong i sugest that your read so much in this website alot of good info here ..look up using the search feature ava. for the fourm...again alot of things could go wrong..you can have a pair that is not experienced and might try to kill the clutch or what have you..please read more before you do anything good luck buddy and again welcome to the fourm people are supernice here <br><br>Post edited by: Abdullah, at: 2008/01/20 02:37
  8. thats expensive 4000! wow and i thought 1500 was a bit pricey but understandable lol...i created a price thread a while back we were discusing prices it might be be demand and rarity that affects price..in the US u find alot of breeders specially sometimes in one place..so prices drop to 750 to 900 at times which is understandable...i thought austrelia had a strict rule about bringing animals to the contrey specially parrots? thats what i heard atleast im not sure..but a friend of mine lived there and a few years back we were discussing this..something to do with birds or animals that are not native to austerlia not being allowed to be imported or something..again not sure..but i think its because of the effect some of the animals that have been bought by people from outside the countrey which now are driving local wildlife next to extention? em i right?
  9. i agree with everyone, tell your wife to give the bird some space...and find out whats its fav treat..then let her do the feeding for a while you'd be amazed how birds and animals in general get around...they test you at first just like we do... if you look around the training section of fourms youll find a recommend books thread...i found most of them at book stores for 12 dollers or sometimes less if used and they help with alot with background information on greys..internet helps but most of the websites have general information..you did the right choice by joing here ..good luck and ask any question..people here are eager to share thier experiences and advice ..welcome to the fourm and why dont u introduce your self at the main section of the fourm, hope this helped , abdullah
  10. welcome to the fourm love..hope you enjoy it here
  11. oh ..you can clip it in a way that they can still fly but not as fast or high...know what i mean..okay now i have to look it up..it depends on what type of bird and how much do u need to clip to achive that state i think
  12. i had a cocktiel when i was 11 that was very tame loved everyone in the family ''i clipped him'' from time to time but after a while i decided not to anymore coz it botherd him, one day he was on his playpen stand thing and the balconey was open ...as it always is he never flies even when im outside..i trained him properlly ..anyways oneday he was napping in the living room with the balconey open my sister burst into the room to awnser the phone which spooked my bird and it flew right off the window ...did not stop kept on flying i looked for days and couldnt find it it was really heartbreaking, i was tramatized after that, i think ill always clip from my experiences you can be safe true...but sometimes acciddents happen..good luck , abdullah<br><br>Post edited by: Abdullah, at: 2008/01/17 15:51
  13. Tracy ( i hope you dont mind me calling you that  ) you have an excellent depth perception! try drawing with 4b pencils i find them more neutral with a natural mis of gray and black! heres an exercise for you take a picture of your bird, upload it to the computer and with the help of a photo program , flip it upside down, then draw from top to bottom..why you might ask? its because we have two brain hemepsiheres sp? left and right the right is the artistic visual side and left is the one concerned with math and language our every day life sometimes requires us to use the left side more often, this exercise confuses your left brain by not being able to tell what the picture is there for ur critical side the side that usually tells u when u draw (This is how a mouth should look like or this is how an ear should look like is more quite and the right side steps in and takes over by putting every detail in paper as how it see's it! gradually youll be able to switch from left to right when you draw and you wont have to flip the picture upside down try it its amazing! you will know if ur using your right side becuase you tend to loose track of time and your thoughts are literally clear i love that state! heres some of my sketchs if you dont mind me uploading some on your thread, oh and if ur wondering why my name isnt signed by the bottom its because i grew up in a somewhat conservative muslim family that thought by righting my name ''abd-allah'' which means servent of allah in arabic on paper that one day i might drop my drawing or so on the ground which could insult gods name...i dont follow that faith anymore...okay ill shup up now point is i love drawing email me at bastard_x5@hotmail.com we can exchange some pictures for other people id recommend reading ''Drawing on the right side of the brain , by betty edwards i think'' really excellent book

    biting

hey there TAJ,ive yet to own an AG but from the many threads i read about other owners saying pretty much the same thing...the question is how many times does he do it ....when? and is it just around his cage....most of the time some owners say that usually its only around the cage...once hes in the living room or away from his cage or what not hes normal again...greys can be very protective of thier territory ''cage''..alot of parrots tend to act that way which is normal really, my concern would be is he attacking constantly even away from his cage
  15. awws so cute welcome to the board moorofcoop !
  16. reno looks absoloutly sweet, i think your expecting to much my ringneck didnt show much reaction to me when i handfed him expect for being excited for food, it wasnt until he was old enough to be moved to his bigger cage in the living room ( i kept him a small guest room with all his equipment away from drafts and people coz of germs) that he realized his position in his flock so to say..he probebly wont show much of his personality until he settles even when you bring him home..and if ur the one still playing with him and giving him treats he'll def see you as his friend then..so basically just let him adjest and love him no matter what, then hell come around hope this helps
  17. pieter jessie looks stunnin im jealous cant wait to have my grey
  18. the tiels look so sweety i love the picture...offcourse the rest are all equally beautiful :woohoo: looking forward to seeing you around the fourm more
  19. hey guy! welcome to the fourm! hope you enjoy it, really nice folks around here...do you have pictures of jessie? :silly:
  20. thanks guys! i cant wait..my main concern is spoiling the bird to much...i have litterly the worlds neediest cat ever..and he wakes us up at 03 for pets will paw at my face and my partner's until we wake up and give him cuddles...my friends would testify lol he gets excited when theres people around lol i guess ill have to balance that out...i read at a breeders page saying that if u overbare they might become very needy to the point that they are self destructive is that true?
  21. wow Nychsa thanks for sharing ..the baby ill be getting ''it might take a long time'' is the same price u paid for 1200 cad...but im def gonna ask her about socializing and if they teach them atleast basic commands ...i think they should ''if theyre good breeders'' thats what ill ask her next time ...ill def post here and tell you what she says
  22. it depends where you live vaya..your first step is to ask your vet they will def give you at least 10 pamplets to choose from..and omg its def a good idea...the costs of an emergency run to the hospital with our cat costed as much 400 dollers so its def good investment..theres also other pet plans that will help u with vaccinations/check ups or meds...call your vet..and welcome to the board
  23. oh shoot i thought he meant ''i can promise'' not i cant promise...yikes! id never leave an animal alone for 14 days! and then broadcast to people that is it okay to get one! you cant do that
  24. stepping up is easy if you give a strong enough reinforcer .. try changing the peanut with a fav toy or some thing else...offcourse im gonna sugest that u let the bird adpat to its new house first...then start at a special time in the day ''when hes happy and calm'' and go from there.. im currently waiting for this book to arrive its been recomended to me by anyone who owned large parrots http://www.amazon.com/Guide-Well-Behaved-Parrot-Mattie-Athan/dp/0764110306
