A long overdue HELLO to all my old friends and those I haven't met yet. We have just completed the busiest ski season ever here in Haines Alaska. Our lodge has been full since Feb.16th till yesterday. We accommodated 8 film crews and many recreation skiers. Many new friends were made. My wife and I have only had 2 days off from cooking and serving our guests since then and we are now planning to get in some serious sofa time to catch up with the rest of the world we left behind the last few months. I apoligize for not being around during this time but we have to pay for the bird food some how. I now have till the end of June before I leave on the boat to go to sea.I have missed you and look forward to catching up with you all. Drop me a line and fill me in. Mazy and I look forward to hearing from you, and it's good to be back. Bruce & Mazy

Post edited by: MazyAK, at: 2008/05/02 22:36

Pegasus: sounds like your bird is settling in nicely. You are doing the research and this site is extremely helpful, so good luck and see you out there Bruce & Mazy

Butch: They have said it all above. for every person clipping, you'll find one who is not. My grey has always been clipped for 13 years and now I'm letting her grow out. Trouble is I have to teach her to land and fly. I'm progressing. Read all about it in the forum. There are several threads on the subject, and a very opinionated one at that. Feel free to ask away, but take which course is best for you and your bird. Bruce & Mazy

Hi everyone, found this site about a week ago...
MazyAK replied to Fidmom's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Fidmom: Definitely leave the door closed when the dogs are around, especially after what happened to the lovebird. Take things slow and make sure the bird kepps a feeling of security. Look forward to some pictures and hearing your progress. There are many, many helpful people in our family so don't hesitate to ask anything. Bruce & Mazy -
Imme: Welcome to our family. You are about to enter a lifelong relationship that requires a huge commitment. You have come to the right place. There are many threads on deciding weather or not to buy a grey. There are a lot of questions you must ask yourself to see if a grey is right for you. So please ask away here as you'll get all the response you need. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision. Bruce & Mazy

raykat: Glad you could join our family. Sounds like you're here just in time. There are so many people here to help answer your questions. I'm a little worried about advice your getting from your breeder as far as exposing him to various other foods other than pellets. I agree with judygram so start exposing him to veggies and limited fruits. A breeder who sends a bird out before being weened is a concern also, but it sounds like he's taking to other foods. I'd drop your breeders advice and use the knowledge available here. Good luck and let's see some pictures. Bruce & Mazy

Pegasus: Congratulations! This site is full of information for you so read through the threads. There are many on bringing a new bird home. Remember to be patient and take it very slowly acclimating your new friend to his new home. Go at your bird's pace so he keeps a secure feeling as he learns his new environment. Make sure his cage is in a social area of the house and upon arrival leave him in with the door shut so he can observe and acclimate. When it's time to come out open the door and let him come out if he wants. Keep kids and pets at a distance for a while and with door closed when he gets exposure. As he is 5 years old he has a routine which is now going to change so make sure he stays in a comfort zone. Good luck and let's see some pictures. Bruce & Mazy

Heather : They're all right. She's being a toddler. Don't react to the negative and praise the positive. Bruce

just take it slow, and at your birds pace for a bit, pretty soon you won't be able to get him back in the cage Bruce & Mazy

scrohan: it sounds like you're exactly what this bird needs. By the way, the no such thing as rambling here. Just remember to take things very slowly. Work within his comfort levels, not yours. I think the other bird will become great company. Don't be in a hurry to handle him. He's already indicated it's just a matter of time. Good Luck and keep us posted, I know you'll get some helpful ideas. Bruce & Mazy

Aaron: It is an exciting time for you. Sounds like you'll have lots of time to study up and ready for the new arrival. Read the threads ands ask all the questions you need. Look forward to hearing your progress. Bruce & Mazy

tracey: I agree with judygram. When you say baby feathers, do you mean the little feathers like the under belly and other small ones? If so you are in molt or in the early stages. Keep an eye on it. Bruce

artoaky: yes, the books will be helpful, and this site is a book in itself only better, it's interactive. But most importantly,,,,Thanks for serving and defending our country for folks like me. Bruce & Mazy

Talon: That's worth a karma. Funny how they only have to hear things once. Great story. Bruce

Makena will be looking for the car keys next.
