  1. Not for nothing I have checked out Nychsa on a google search and I see that you are in a couple of other forums and in your profile in every one you have a differant occupation. I think that you are a troll in alot of forums and love to start arguments. What is your true occupation? I think that you are a web booster to get hits on web forums to increase posts so that the owner can get more money for it when sells the forum. This forum is for sale. I think that it is so ironic that only a few days of this forum being listed for sale who comes in Nychsa to start her B.S. A word to the wise check her out before you praise her. SHE IS A TROLL!!!!! Go to google search and just put her name in and see what you find out. I know its her because she has some of the same pictures on them as well as here. She causes trouble where ever she goes. When you go to another forum just ask other members in there forum. As i did they all responded with the same answer she is a trouble maker. And a lier she cant even tell you what her REAL occupation is.
  2. Welcome to the FAMILY!!!!!!!! Good to have you here. Enjoy it and please ask as many questions as you want.

    advice-

Hello, As Dave has said This is all new to the bird and needs time to adjust to his new home. Kids are way to fast and loud for new or even older birds.( I have 3 kids ) and my Ziggy still till this day get very nervous when they are playing and running around the house. Most birds are very skitish and will nip at times when upset. The best ting is to have you kids sit in a chair and then you bring the bird to them and put the bird on their arm(never shoulder) and let them slowly and caulmly hold the bird( below eye level). You dont want the bird in a high setting he/she will take this a dominate jester and might nip. Birds are like dogs in a sence that they need to have a pecking order, a bird like a male dog will try to become the "ALPHA". I hope this will be helpful for you.
  5. Hello Bruce and Alicianicole, This is the season for greys to breed and they are showing you there love. Courtship is very tender at times and can be very rough. Usually the male gets the short end of the stick in this. Alot of breeders I have seen ( alot of speices ) the female will pluck the male during this time. Went to a local show here in St. Pete and a pair of Eclectus breeders were for sale and the male was plucked by the female. One of the things a bird loves is to be loved (when she wants to be loved). There hormones are up and they are a little out of sorts. Just remember to let them sit on the eggs and give them food with calcium( almonds, cuttle bones, broccoli ect). I would stay away from the almonds myself they are high in saturated fats. A large cuttle bone is a great way to see if she will lay another egg. When you check the cuttle bone you will see a good part of it eaten.(they need the calcium to produce the egg). Instincts will take over. My sons cockateil has layed 4 eggs over the last 3 months. The cuttle bone is a good way to see if she is ready to lay again. We check it and when there is a good pourtion of it missing she would lay a egg with in 2 to 3 days.
  6. Hello, Try a nutrition store. They have no salt crackers. At least they do here where I live. I just bought some yesterday. You might want to try melba toast they are salt free and my birds like it. Rice cakes are good if they are plain. The flavored ones have some sugar added to them for flavor.
  7. Hello Regina, You should let her sit on the eggs for 21 days or so. She needs to roost the egg(s). They need to go through he stages of a clutch. She has no idea the egg is not fertile. She has to go through the stages on her own. A grey will lay a egg every 3 days for about 2 weeks. The normal clutch is about 3 to 5 eggs per clutch. She will be fine you need to boost her calcium to produce the eggs and she will not become week or calciun defishent. Natural instincts will take over. Put a cuttle bone in her cage for her to knaw at to get the calcium she needs for the next egg.
  8. Good Luck and have a great and Merry Christmas. Enjoy him for the day and charish it forever. Before you know it he will be home forever. Again Merry Christmas and enjoy Brody

  13. That was beautiful. I think we need to remember our troops for the holiday, along with everyday. They are puting there lives on the line for all of us. This is a good reminder that wether we agree with the war or not, They are out there fighting for us as a nation and what we feel are good intentions. The further 9-11 gets the more we forget the reason why they are fighting. I have a tatoo that says 9-11 NEVER FORGET and it is true. God bless the armed forces, now and forever. 14. Hello Dad, Good to see your back with us. The family was wondering about you. All the questions my god. Well WELOME BACK TO THE FAMILY!!!!!! You never left me because I could talk to you everyday, but as for the rest of us they were truly mad, upset, confused, and sad that you left. Try not to let it happen again.
  15. Hello Tiffany, First of all he needs to be a bird first then a pet. The screaming is a sign of attention to him. Birds need to be birds because like others are saying they need to occupy themselfs. You have a life with your kids and household chores that you need to keep up with and not always be there for the bird every minute of the day. Thats why no matter how much you want to be there for him every waking moment they need to be a little self suppotive. Greys are a bird of dominence and will push there luck to see how much you will give into them. This bird could have had 1 of 2 things happen to him in the past. 1) Not enough attention from the prior owners. 2) Had to much attention and now is spoiled. I am willing to say it is reason 1 if he was a rescue. You are a teacher so you know that when a problem child wants attention he/she will do things even if they know it is wrong JUST TO GET THE ATTENTION this is the same with your bird. Attention is attention whether good or bad. He will continue to push you and you need to show him that you are the boss and will not be pushed around. Birds need cage time to relax and have quiet time. You need to set ground rules and he will have to get used to it. You also said that you change his toys every week stop doing that. Greys also like routine and by you always changing his routine your are making him upset that his cage is always differant. How would you like it if someone changed you furniture every week? You would get upset with that person. The bird is getting upset with the constant changes to his house. Try doing this Leave the toys you have in the cage. Set the rules and stick to them. Cut the out of cage time down. Tell him when he screams NO in a firm but calm voice. Cut the on top of the cage time down.(anything over you head he takes as I am above you) Try doing these things and let me know if you see a differance.
  16. Hello, Your vet is correct by saying to leave the eggs in the box. Thet will roost the eggs even though they are unfertilized she needs to go through the steps. As for her being week she needs calcium alot of it try getting a cuttle bone. Birds will lay eggs at any mature age and they will lay a egg every 2 to 3 days until they have a clutch of 3 to 5 eggs(normally). There is nothing to worry about except you need to leave the eggs in the box for 21 days and that she needs calcium to replace the calcium she lost in making the eggs. If she has been on them for 24 days remove the eggs now and she should not lay any to replace the ones you removed. She has already passed the eggs and she has roosted them. She has done her job. Her instinks have told her to sit on the eggs to hatch them. Odvisally they are not going to hatch, so remove them so she can get on with her normal eating habits. And the plucking is stress related no dought about it. She is a first time hen and she is a little confused on how to roost them correctly. Has her additude changed since she layed the eggs? I would say yes it has. She is trying to become a mother and she dont relize that the eggs are not fertile.
  17. Being in the restaurant business for years I can tell you that roaches are very hard to get rid of. All restaurant have to deal with roaches on time or another. A good pestaside is BORIC ACID it is a white flour looking powder that when a roach walks through it it gets in the little hairs on there lage and they bring it back to the colony. There is no so called queen in the roach colony. After a while they will start to die and not replace themselves with new eggs. Each female roach carrys a lava pod on there backside and each pod has 16 babies in there. They multiply by the thousands in a very short time. You realy want to get this under control ASAP if not you will have a great mess on your hands. Boric acid is also a powder you put under the stove behind the fridge and spots that roaches will go. Roaches will always go under the stove and fridge because they need the heat and the darkness. The food is every where so they need food and a water source. They are hard to get under control but the boric acid works wonders. It will not hurt the bird as a areosol will it is a powder you place on the floor. You might want to have a pro look at it and bait your house. The bait is a gel that they eat and then will die. This is a proven method but takes a little more time then areosols and the acid. Sorry you have to go through this.
  18. Penny, As others have replyed to you I agree that the less you alter her normal routine the better. She might get alittle upset at first but she should adapt fairly quickly. Just watch her for the first couple of days that she dont get a little defensive Good luck with the move!!!!!!!
  19. Hello Welcome to the FAMILY!!!!!! Good luck with Alex he will give you many years of loyalty and love. Enjoy everyday with him before you know it he will be a little stinker LOL!!!!!! Please ask all the questions you want, there are many great people here to answer them for you. Again welcome to the FAMILY!!!!!!!
  20. Hello Janie, Sound like you and Echo are getting along good. Your vet unless he did a DNA test. Your vet was just saying it in general if you ask me. Is your vet a avain vet? That is very important. Just love him/her and enjoy every minute with him/her. They are special and you seem to have the patience you need with birds. Way to go!!! keep up the good work with Echo. Good work on the rescue, some birds really need it thats for sure.
  21. Hello Talon and Mosfatal, I know alot of people think that purified water or filtered water is a good thing. I thought so also at first. But like I said in the other post they need the local bacterias for there amune system. There is no nutritional value to cleaned water, and there for they have no GOOD bacteria in the water for you or the bird. To answer you question YES I would take a few gallons of water to your new home and little by little add some of the new water until in about 2 weeks you are only usung the local water. This is like if you had fish you would want to have a drip line with the water the fish will be in this aclamatin of the new water is a slow but nessasery procidure. Dave I dont want to step out of line here I know you have a great deal of knowledge but I must disagree with you here. The local water has things added t the water for cleaning and also for heath reasons. Here where I live they add flouride, ammonia, chlorine, and a water booster to clean the water. I dont know about where everybody else lives but here they add those things. Your bird will be where you live and even if you dont give him/her local water to drink he/she will still have a great deal of water to deal with. (baths, washing all fruits and veggies cleaning the cage ect). So you see its not only for the bird to drink he/she will be exposed to the local water all the time. Thats why the need the good bacteria culture from the local water.<br><br>Post edited by: ziggy, at: 2007/12/21 04:50
  22. Hello, Dave this is one thing I have to disagree with you (a rare thing). You really should give a bird tap water. I know what you all are thinking "WHAT". The reasons are these. Your bird needs to get his amune system acustom to the local water table. The next thing is bottled water such as RO water (aquafina-desani) have nothing in the water at all. Your bird like you need to have your local bacterias in its system for his/her amune system to work correctly. This is almost the same thing as if you have allergies you should not buy over the counter honey. You should go to your local beealugist to get the local honey. The bees go and retrieve the local pollens to make the honey. So in return your local honey is made of the same pollen that you are allergic to. In return you get the amune system to except the local germs and fight them. Dave I just have read alot about this I was using bottled water and after reading so many articles it made sense to me to give them local water.
  23. Hello, Yes for $30.00 you will get the satisfaction you desire. It is rather cheap to find out the gender of your grey. Why have the guessing game its not like its 200.00. It is also a good thing so you can name the bird accordinly to the gender. You dont want Joey to really be Josey( no offence to your little Josey Judy) Just making a point. How about you wuld not want Michele to really be Michael. Better Judy:P

    Orange!

Has anybody seen Laurie I can fell her presents but since she is invisible I cant find her. LOL:P Oranges are a great form of vitimans for your bird. There are 2 things though you may want to consider on when giving oranges. 1) They are a fruit so they have alot of natural sugars. 2) You need to monitor the amounts you give your bird they are also very high in citric acid. In normal situations you should give them as a treat once in a while. You should not make this a staple fruit all of the time. Like anything else to much of one thing is not good. They love oranges but we also love foods that are good in moderation and not everyday.(twinkies, potato chips, fried foods) Remember the old saying if it tastes good it probably is not good for you. HAHAHA!!!!!!:woohoo:
  25. Heather this is a common mistake. The breeders unless they have it sexed they are shooting in the dark. Not bad odds tho 50-50.I will take those odds in Vegas. But all joking aside the true only way is through a DNA blood test. Sorry you were misleaded in believing she was a boy.
