  1. I keep my house at around 68-72F year round and it is fine. Just make sure she's not in a draft like next to a window or door.

    Orange!

Good point Laura. And it sometime helps to wait for a period of time and then try it again if they turn something down a few times.
  3. Congrats. I look forward to seeing some pictures.
  4. Very entertaining video. That is very strange behavior. My grey freezes like a deer in headlights whenever I get a camera anywhere near her. Klaus seems to be performing for the camera
  5. Hello and welcome Sarah & Zeus Let's us know where the video is posted. It sounds interesting.
  6. Great pictures. They're both gorgeous.
  7. That's very funny Makena. I'd love to see that video
  8. Great posts and pictures Dave. I couldn't agree more. My 9 year old CAG enjoys her alone time too. She'll hang out with me and when she gets bored then she'll just go somewhere else and chill out.
  9. Great news and thanks for the update. I hope everything works out
  10. The size is minimal but adequate. Other than that it looks like a really nice cage.
  11. I've been happy with both Dr. Foster Smith and The Perch Store. Of course you should disinfect toys before giving them to your birds but you should be extra thorough when you buy toys from stores that also sell birds. If their toys somehow become contaminated from a sick bird in their store then your bird could also get infected.
  12. My Grey eats Harrisons (adult course) but I also occasionally give her Zupreem. I prefer to give her variety so she doesn't get too attached to a single pellet. And I really don't want her getting addicted to the most expensive pellet on the market (Harrisons) One tip that I've used before (with other new foods) is to use a special "treat bowl". You use a specific bowl for nothing but treats. Every day or other day just drop a single treat into the "treat bowl". Once your Grey gets used to a variety of treats in their "treat bowl" then you drop in a pellet. Very sneaky  but it works.... sometimes.
  13. Waking a Grey up and it being dark has been known to create monsters in the dark. Strange shadows on the wall can spook a Grey. They are very much like young children when it comes to monsters in the dark. Usually turning on a light briefly will calm them down. It's also a very good idea to keep a small night light burning somewhere near your Grey's cage. This will eliminate some night-spooks by illuminating the monsters in the dark.
  14. Any update after the vet visit?
  15. Here's a recent article on shipping birds. http://www.infosuperflyway.com/articles/shippingbirds.php
  16. danmcq makes a very good point. The cost of the bird is only one of many costs. There's a worksheet at the end of this article that you can use for costs. http://www.infosuperflyway.com/articles/buyerbeware.php
  17. Eventually they'll become more trusting of you but it isn't possible to tell how long it will take. It's a combination of their past history, their personality, the amount of interaction, etc etc. There's just too many variables to predict. There is only one thing for sure and that's your patience will be tested/required
  18. Childrens toys are an excellent (and often cheap) source of toys. Second-hand stores and Thrift stores are great places to find bargains. Just remember that your birds beak is a lot stronger than an infant so just watch out for parts that can be ripped off by a bird. Also, stuff with batteries in it can be dangerous.
  19. That's Funny She'll be making you say "please" before you know it
  20. Winsten sounds like an interesting character. I'd love to hear some of those farm animal sounds. Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of helpful and friendly people here.
  21. Some "Animal Control" or "Humane Societies" (different names for the same thing) have 'live traps' that they either loan (with a deposit) or rent to you. You set the trap and put food in it and the opossum goes in and the trap door shuts. It doesn't harm the animal. Then you either take the trap back to "Animal Control" or the "Humane Society" or call them to come pick it up. They do harm the animal It works for raccoons and opossums.
  22. Hello Dona and Danni You're off to a great start by joining this forum. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people here that enjoy answering questions. I'm sure you'll find the forum very useful and the people very friendly
  23. I agree with everyone else that it sounds like a normal molt. During a normal molt, ALL of the tail feathers won't fall out at the same time. It's also "normal" for a Grey to chew on feathers when they do molt. So don't panic if you walk in the room and Sassy's chewing on a feather I've heard that you can tell a plucked feather from a normal molt by looking at the tip of the feather. If it is a normal molt then there won't be any blood on the tip. However, if there is blood on the tip then it was likely a plucked feather. Has anyone else ever heard this or does anyone else have experience with plucking that confirm or deny this?
