Welcome to the board. These I am not sure that you could find a gretaer community:). I look forward to having you and your little feathered child with us.

 Welcome and I hope that you enjoy the sight. I have found all of the help and support out here wonderful!

WHat a cute little baby! Welcome to the family, I have found this board one of the most wonderful resources as an CAG you can have. The only suggestion that I have is to enjoy the baby time. Before long I am sure Beaker will have plenty to teach you. I know Newton is definitely training us up right;)
-
Ohhh... Congrats! I am so happy for your family. Keep us updated on your new addition! I bet your gonna have lots of fun around your home!:woohoo:

I am not sure if this is totally helpful but what we have been doing here is watching Newtons body language. I have noticed that he will begin to wriggle a bit and then I simply lift him onto his perch and I too tell him to poop over and over then once he does I have been giving him a treat of something he likes (grapes for Newton). My theory positive reinforcement and bribery will get you everywhere;)

Hello Rikki and welcome to our little family. I love the picture, very cute.
-
We just got home and it went very well. Newton did an excellent job and behaved very well. B) I was a very proud Mommy and I am happy to report that we are a very healthy family. I am very glad that we did it because it gave Newton a chance to meet the vet and get a feel for him before any major procedures are needded like blood. Plus I found out the vet does a parrot training class and I am all for that! So I enrolled us and he said he will call us and let me know when the first class is. YAY!!
-
Today, I went ahead and made an appointment for Newton to see the vet because I just want to make sure everything is working properly. He has shown no signs of sickness not that birds do until it is usually too late:( . Plus it worries me to hear about sick birds and I want to make sure that he is not carrying something that could be a horrible surprise. I do have a very nice carrier that Newton hates. So are there any suggestions on how to make him as comfortable as possible without causing more than needed stress. Plus any suggestions on any specifics I should ensure that I ask the vet (especially for understanding this breed since he is my First African Grey, although I have had other parrots since I was about 2 years old), besides the typical? I like to write out a list so that I forget nothing and admittedly I am obsessive because I take a tape recorder so that I don't forget his answers. Feedback is very appreciated and I hope that everyone has a very nice day!

:cheer: I so hope that Newton will always want to cuddle this has been terrific. He is so sweet and I think that we have really found the perfect bird for us!

LOL  Excellent idea I think I will give it a try tonight:laugh:

I hate to hear such sad news and I am absolutely heart broken for you. I send you my prayers.

Thanks, he is such a delight with his verbalizations of love. Plus he is so cuddely (atleast for now). When he gets tired you can tell because he wants you to hold and stroke his beak while he closes his eyes. My husband loves this now if I could only train my husband to rub my feet when I am tired.

Welcome to the board Lisa. I know that you will enjoy it as much as I truly have. I have found it a blessing to find this board.

Newton is totally cracking me up and I have to tell you about it. Since Newton came home I have admittedly been spoiling him. I spend a couple (ok several) hours letting him sit on my shoulder and he likes to hold his head close to my face a nibble a little and does like a spurring/ growling thing, not aggressively but I think he continues because it just cracks us up. Does anyone else's bird respond this way, I have never heard a bird sort of spurr/growl. Also he definately believes our food is his food. I am really glad that I try and eat healthy. Last night I made Hobo stew and he nose dived for the bowl and I am very glad that my husband was slightly faster or he would have burnt his little beak. Anyone else raising a little feathered human?

Congrats on bringing Dorian home. I am very glad to hear that he has a good safe home. I think you are doing a very good job especially at being patient (I struggled with this when waiting for Newton). I actually took the advice of a posting about buying calculator tape and Newton adores destroying this. As for colored paper I personally am a little weary of it.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My prays are with you and I am keeping you in my thoughts.

I am so glad that this turned out for the better for you. I am glad that your Romeo is Okay. I can only imaginge not only the cost but the stress that it would put on the poor little guy.

He is adjusting pretty well though he did not like the car ride at all. He is definately the prince of the house and gets very fussy if we won't carry him around and for right now I am more than willing to cuddle because I am pretty sure it isn't gonna last long.

We actually decided in calling our new baby Newton because like Isaac Newton he seems to have "issues with gravity" LOL.. We decided in this name because he gets really excited with some of his toys and forgets to maintain balance and then has to work hard at finding that balance again.
-
HE HOME!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: And he is the sweetest little baby I could have possibly wished for and right now he is a cuddler and I am loving evey minute of it. We traveled 4 hours in the car and he is worth every single minute of it. Now I just have to choose a name for him and that is proving more difficult than I intended it to be. I am hoping that after watching him become more comfortable here at home it will become apparent as to what his name is. Althogh he is eating, drinking and squacking a bit and is already working a saying hello. I have taken some pictures and will post them up as soon as my husband uploads them. I admit I am not the most computer savy person:blush: Thank you so much for all of the info and support!

Congrats on a terrific job and thank you for posting I can't begin telling you how helpful alot of the postings have been for me. Here's to many more!!

It sounds like it is going to depend on my little guy and what he likes. So far he is very fond of bottle caps and cuddling so I think that I will just play the cage top by ear and see which one he will prefer once he gets more comfortable. Thanks everyone for all your help.

Wonderful, I think I will just take out the grate and set it down in my basement. I have alot of nice natural light in my house and I myself dislike how dark it makes the bottom of the cage. I was just worried that I needed to use it for some reason.
