  1. I also have wondered about cooking vegetables. I give them to Oliver as I eat them -- almost always cooked -- but often wonder if he would enjoy corn on the cob better as a raw food.
  2. That's great, Laurie!!! Here's to another two weeks of smobriety!! :laugh:
  3. It turned out great, Dan. I especially like the conduit, it give the whole thing a finished look in addition to the primary safety factor. Thanks for sharing!
  4. This is great stuff, Dan. Thank you for de-mystifying it for us. Just goes to show, you can't believe everything you read -- especially if it's written by the vendor!
  5. I'm looking forward to reading it, Dan. And I'm sure many parrots out there are going to be thanking you for a long, long time
  6. Very inspiring! You're doing great, Laurie. 181 cigarettes not smoked? Wow!
  7. The <somewhat> scientific explanation for why Wellbutrin helps is that its chemical makeup allows it to bind to the same receptors in the brain that nicotine would fill, curbing the physical withdrawal. That's half the battle. You just have to be careful when you come off the wellbutrin, as you'll have the same issue then... wean yourself from it very, very slowly. At that point you'll feel somewhat safe from nicotine cravings so they can sneak up on you without warning. Be prepared for them and you'll do just fine!
  8. Great work, Laurie! Keep those hands busy and Keep Breathing!!!
  9. Thanks for the news, Laurie. I've been a Steven King fan for years and used to be waiting at the bookstore the moment a new one came out. Then he did the Dark Tower series and I couldn't get interested in it so I sort of lost track of what he was up to. I think I have all his non Dark-Tower books (except these last two), but may have missed one or two over the past few years. I think the last one I read was Cell.
  10. Haha, blaming the dog strikes me a a guy thing, too :evil:
  11. I am so jealous of you guys whose birds don't bite! Oliver has been with me 5 months now and although he bites less often now than he did at the beginning, he still gets me at least once most every day. Tonight, for instance, he was in a loving mood. I had to go out for a couple of hours after his dinner and when I came back he danced for me to pick him up. He couldn't get enough cuddles and head scratches! He was so sweet! Then, for no reason that I could see, quick as a snake, he bit me. I firmly told him "Don't bite" and put him in his cage and left the room. When I came back in he danced to be picked up and cuddled again. After sitting on my lap and playing for a while he did it again. He knows he'll go back to his cage for "time out" when he does it, so why does he keep doing it? My current theory is that he wants to make sure I don't forget he can and will punish me if I step out of line
  12. Hey, what's up here? I find a thread titled "Just for Men" and I go to peek -- but there's only one man postilng to it and the rest are women! Hmmm, now what could that mean? {Feel-good-0002006E}
  13. That's a good idea about lowering the perch. I had decided to pad the bottom with a folded towel, but a low perch will work even better. I think I've hijacked this thread pretty thoroughly, don't you? :whistle: I'll start a new thread for travel talk.
  14. Hey, I might just do that! From Virginia Beach to Memphis, on the road with Oliver the Grey! Could be a good time I hope the weather is nice so I don't have to work too hard to keep the climate agreeable for him. So, Judy, when you travel with Josey how do you keep her comfortable? I know not to open windows or turn an a/c vent on him. Other than that, is there anything I should be careful of?
  15. LOL you may even get a play by play while I'm there -- I'm not known for staying offline any longer than I have to. I'm thinking we'll do it in 2 hour sprints -- drive 2 hours, stop for a rest, drive another 2, stop for a long rest, do another 2 + 2, stop for the night, etc. I'm not much of a marathon driver, myself.
