1. Hi guys i just wanted all of your expert opinions on this ,as i have said before that my wife and I do work and are out of the house for at least 4-6 hours a day so i purchased a cd for talking with general phrases on it to play while we are out , after each phrase there is a 10 second gap so just keep repeating the track .Dont get me wrong i am under no illusions that the bird might never talk i am aware of that and he will be loved either way as the family has become very attached to the little fella hes an important member of the family wether hes talking or not .I may just record my own voice as a single track on a disc so the bird may talk using my accent ,anyone else got any ideas ? thanks guys , mervyn
2. Thank you mrspock as you can see i uploaded him through photoshop thanks again for your good advice , mervyn

7. Thank you mrspock for your words of wisdom , the one thing i am concerned about is the 4-5 hours a day that hes on his own in the house while we are at work thats why i am considering using the cd ,on the other hand he will talk when he is ready plus he is so young .
8. Hi guys im just wondering if any of you would recomend that cd to help your grey start talking ,as my wife and i are not always at home so just to fill in the gaps whjilst we are out ,obviously i would like to teach him everything myself like i do devote alot of time to him outside work but just while im out if any one has usedf this and found it helpfull please let me know thank you guys and keep up the great work of helping people .
9. Hi ye i my cag is almost 4 months now and i have him only a little over a week i its unbelievable how far he has come on in such little time .At the start he was generaly quiet but lately he has become more vocal and we could have sworn that he said hello to us over the weekend it was a really deep squaky hello not that clear but it came in the middle of a load of weird noises from him like i said hes making sounds now that we didnt hear before and gets into a funny humour whilst we are talking back to him he thrives on the attention we give him .Have recently bought a feathered phonics talking cd does anyone recomend them ? as i am at work in the day and my wife is working part time so just to fill the gap of few hours in the day to play the tape .
10. Hi stuart my name is mervyn i am also a newbie where cags are concerned .Lucky is his name and he is only 13 weeks old now and we have him around 5 days ,i am all over the place wondering if he eating enough and drinking enough also,i constantly change his water and make sure he is well topped up with parrot feed and i am also encouraging him to eat some food with us at dinner time also ie just give him piece of your dinner in the cage sometimes he picks at it other times he just spits it out .
11. Thank you lovemygreys he certainly does look content anyway ,he is dozing as we speak now .I am new to all this as i only have him less than a week .He still seems to be flying into walls and the tv when i leave him out at night im hoping this will stop soon as i dont want him to endanger himself ,i do remove all danger that i can but heres hoping he starts landing on something soon ,on accasion he (lucky) will land on my arm as i callout to him so theres a bit of progress on that .

13. ah thats good thanks for your opinion and god know i wouldnt dare leave him out all night in the dark ha , only when my wife and I are there after kids have gone to bed of course like i said i want the bird and the kids to become accustomed to each other before i let him out of the cage first.Yes i made sure all photos are face down and hes well out of danger at all times , im just bit concerned at him flying into walls and not knowing where he can land etc i suppose this will happen untill he familiarises himself wit the room .Again its gr8 to chat to experienced people
14. Hi siobhan we called him/her "lucky" hes lovely he was bred in bray i bought him in a big farm up there called copeland farm or something like that , many many species up there and the guy is really nice , he was HR and is only 13 weeks old , not sure if the winga were clipped i must ring the breeder to ask him if not i may get them clipped by the vet of course .he had no problems me touching him or picking him up at all whereas the first day or so he looked a bit frightened which is understandable .So glad i found this site to chat with people in my possition .So where about in the greenland are you from siobhan ?
15. Hi we are after calling him lucky as i left the kids name him , my kids are 6 and 2 i dont mind them speaking etc with lucky but i am not leaving him out around the kids just yet as we only have him 3 days i dont want him getting upset so i wait untill the kids are in bed to leave him out at least untill hes used to the kids and vice versa.I have seen huge improvement in him in such short time he now responds to me after i talk to him , and at first was a little startled when i put hand into the cage but now he actually leaves me rub him under his kneck which he likes ,we are truly happy we bought him and look forward to chatting to other people here about our experiences and maybe get some sound addvice here also .

Post edited by: mervyn2233, at: 2007/10/02 15:31
16. Thanks dan for your wise words , i do leave the big light on at night when he is out and about and he flew into the wall maybe 2 times but then came around and started walking over to me ,im just a bit concerned that due to the fact hes so young and only with me few days is it ok to be leaving him out of cage right now ? sorry for the stupid questions ha
17. Hi there siobhan and everyone else my name is mervyn and i am from waterford ireland i bought my first grey only 3 days ago he/she is only 13 weeks old so hes addapting to my house now as we speak i have seen huge progress in such little time with him i.e no snapping at me entering the cage ,acknowledging me when im talking i am absolutley blown away by him so soon .I have left him out of cage on 2nd night for little while and he few aimlessly around the room hitting walls etc for few mins without injuring himself and then started to crawl up my hand onto my shoulder , is it normal for him to fly into walls a few times when been first let out ? I know he will find his feet in time im sure .
18. Hi there my name is mervyn im from ireland and recently bought my first african grey who is only 13 weeks old.So he is only at my home now bout 3 days so hes still finding his feet and getting accustomed to everyone and thing around him , i am just wondering if it is ok to be leaving him out of the cage right now been so soon , i left him out the 2nd night and he was fine except from the few times he flew straight into the wall other than that whilst on me he was fine ,so im not sure as to continue or wait a little longer for him to get used to the surroundings ?
