  1. He's a cutie pie. Love those scritches!
  2. I'd have the clinic pull a blood feather before I'd try any surgical sexing. That notion scares me a little.
  3. Good work on the toy. I have one small comment for you. The bell that you put at the bottom of the toy is really meant for smaller birds. The strong beak of a grey can break off the clanger inside the bell and that can be a danger to your bird. I've seen Dorian do it, so I'm speaking from personal experience. Get some heavier duty bells with welded clangers. Alex is looking great and very happy in his home. You're doing a great job.
  4. Happy hatch day Ana Grey. Let mommy spoil you.
  5. Dorian's been a pill lately. He wakes up grumpy and is obsessed with being on my desk, which would be ok if he wasn't so determined to chase my hand on my computer mouse and bite it, or bite the phone and computer cables. I have to admit the past few nights I've counted the minutes till birdy bed time! He hasn't been on his play stand in the living room as much because he's refused to step up and come with me. Then he gets mad when I spend time out of the office, (which is also 'his' room). He's definitely been a hands off birdy. Funny thing is, at bedtime he gets all lovey dovey and cute as a button. I'm sure he'll snap out of it, but in the meantime anyone else out there got a grumpy guts?
  6. Welcome to our group to you and Moy Moy. Don't worry about your grammer. We have members here from all over the world. If English isn't your first language, I admire anyone who can communicate in a second language.
  7. Love it, "Panic first". I'm echoing the cry for regular pictures, 'cause we all know you don't have enough to do already, right?!
  8. That looks like a very happy playing little birdy to me. Good job on toy choosing.
  9. His Nibs has woken up in a foul fowl mood this morning. He's already bitten me twice, and been 'timed out' in his cage within the first 10 minutes of waking. Thankfully, this is the exception to his usual routine, not the rule, but today's going to be a loooooooooonnng day.
  10. You're right to leave it at his own pace. Alex is in good hands with you.
  11. Hope he leaves those beautiful red feathers alone.
  12. Having an animal like a parrot is a life and life style changing experience. What I mean by that is that they need as much (supervised) out of cage time as possible every day. If you're a person who works and likes to go out after work with friends, getting home late most nights, then a parrot isn't for you. Not to say you can't do it once in a while. An occasional disruption in routine is ok, maybe even good, for your bird, but for the most part they thrive on a routine. They're happiest and healthiest when they're with their flock. They require a lot of time and attention, but they also give you a lot back. Just in sheer entertainment value alone. There's not a day when Dorian doesn't make me laugh, even when he's also driving me to the funny farm. Are you planning on getting a baby or an adult? The challenges are different with a so called second hand bird, but the experience can be very rewarding. Each bird is an individual with its own personality and likes and dislikes, which you should have a good sense of if you'be been reading around our forum rooms. Keep doing your research and you should make a great parront!
  13. Another thread here reminded me of something else Dorian hears all the time. "You keep your food".
  14. The down feathers are an everyday thing, not to worry.
  15. Anyone like me? Do you have a list of things you're surprised your grey DOESN'T say, because he/she hears it all the time. Here's my short list. I love you Night Night Time for sleepies No Dorian No Be a good boy Good morning sweetheart You know better Kill the Bell, Kill the Bell! Oh my goodness! Good doggie I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that come to mind. He's heard all these things 100's of times, so he's choosing not to say them for whatever reasons are in his little grey head.. He did say I love you a couple of times a few years ago but not since so I've included it on the list. So come on. What are the things your little gremlins refuse to say?
  16. Just shows there are mental health problems in other species, not just our own Lol.
  17. Have you read the "Body Language Most Frequently Seen" Sticky in this forum room just a couple of spots above your post? There's a lot of good information there. I'd say you're interpreting her current body language right, she's still angry. How close can you get before she starts this? Set up camp at that spot and gradually try moving closer. It's a way to say you're respecting the boundary she's set for you.
  18. Oh, I have no doubt that they know what NO means, they just choose not to obey it
  19. I'm so impressed with Gil Girl's prodigious memory for her past lives. It's amazing to me that she's still coming up with new words and phrases for you to wonder about.
  20. It may be a teeny bit long, but I wouldn't worry about it right now. Get him a pumice perch that he might be able to use to grind it down a bit, give him lots of stuff to chew, and don't worry about it. I wouldn't want to interfere with your bonding and trust building right now, and it's not long enough to interfere with his eating or climbing.
  21. Happy belated Rikki day! I'm sure it was a good one filled with lots of spoiling.
  22. I remember when VCRs had cords that ran from them to the "remote".
  23. Wow, looking great, knock wood. There was never any doubt about how loved he was, trust me.
  24. Thanks for the update. Glad things are going well. Sounds to me like you and Alex were meant to be.
  25. If he truly hates the spray bottle, try putting a big bowl of ice cold water somewhere and see if he'll take a bath in it. Also, how are you doing the spraying? Are you spraying him directly, or spraying the air above him and letting the water fall down onto him? This is often a more successful technique. Plucking is a hard behaviour to figure out/stop entirely. They often start it for one reason and persist out of habit. It sounds like your honeymoon period is over and Mayday is reverting to some old behaviour. You've got the right idea about not making a fuss when you see him do it. Provide him with plenty of chewing/grooming toys to divert him from fussing with his own feathers. The big question here is can you live with a nudist if the behaviour persists? Lots of our members here do. It's not your fault, it's not your failing.
