  1. Yep, we are so proud of her. She is still mean to my kids, my parents and my friends. BUT... she is getting better with my husband But she absolutely adorable with me, so I don't mind!! Siobhan
  2. Steph, the members in this forum love greys and the feedback you have been given is out of concern for your baby. Please don't take it the wrong way. You do seem to be taking some unnecessary risks with your bird, and it would be so sad to see Goober have an accident. Please be careful. Siobhan
  3. Ireland. I love it here, I have lived elsewhere but I really do love Ireland. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
  4. Oh wow... she is lovely... you sure do Love your greys! Siobhan
  5. FairY, I have a twin... believe me, it's not all its cracked up to be Lots of rows! I would choose my own family. I have the best family in the world. I would change some of the genes though, particulary the cholesterol one, and perhaps my brother would still be alive. If you could change one thing about your appearance what would it be? Siobhan
  6. To have my husband take my kids away for a whole day, with no phone calls from him. To have the whole house tidy the day before, have nobody asking for anything, and just laze about. To do NOTHING for a day without feeling guilty. That would be heaven.... If you could change your career overnight, what would you like to do?
  7. What about noodles, scrambled egg, porridge (oatmeal), birdy bread (see recipes in the food thread). I am curious as to why you stopped feeding parrot food? But since you have I would probably add some avian vitamin supplement to her drinking water too, to be sure to be sure she is getting everything she needs. Siobhan

Many years ago in Dublin. I loved the show, but Flatley was full of himself. My kids play that kind of music. We have fiddle, flute, bodhran, guitar and whistle, so we often have music sessions at home. None of them dance though Where are your family from?
  9. where is WV? Really lovely. This is some snow in my front garden in Ireland last week. It was very pretty before the kids had snow fights in it!
  10. Congratulations Hannah! It wont be long before she learns Be Quiet! You want them to talk so badly, and when they do you want them to be quiet so you can make a phone call or whatever....
  11. Liath hated my hubby on sight from day 1, so 6 months ago he bought Oisin for himself. As soon as he got him Liath decided maybe hubby isnt so bad and got curious. But she still wouldnt step up, or take treats from him or anything. Then she started accepting treats... nice ones, not any ol' treat ! Then she started sitting beside him on the arm of the chair watching him play with Oisin. And last night she flew over to him and sat on his shoulder for about a half hour :woohoo: WOW! we are thrilled with her. He still can't pet her but anything is possible. It just shows patience DOES pay! Siobhan
  12. You can actually see the celery fall! That's fairly amazing. Lovely pictures! Have some Karma...
  13. Oh he is gorgeous! He looks just like Oisin, only his beak is still smooth Oisin has his beak all scraped and scratched because he chews on EVERYTHING! (including me )
  14. I don't know for sure, but I have given my guys coconut before. They only ate the coconut out of it and left the shell. They loved it. In fact I bought another today. I hope its ok!!
  15. I love looking at smokers. Think to myself I NEVER have to go outside for a ciggy again. I never have to worry about the length of a flight again. Next time you go to the basement, think to yourself, at least I don't have to come ddown here on a regular basis! Sorry to all of you that still smoke, but I look at smokers and I feel sorry for them, because some day they have to go through what I did to quit. And Laurie, you are 99.9% there now... I have friends who smoke, and I never comment one way or the other. They even smoke in my house. I didnt like visiting non smoker friends because I always wanted to leave so I could have a puff! So I vowed that I wouldnt do that to my friends, They walk in and I take out an ashtray but I have no desire to join them. Keep up the good work.... any one else tempted to quit yet?
  16. I would LOVE a macaw. There is one in my local pet shop. It has been there for 2 years now. How sad is that. The pet shop guy says he isnt for sale. But at €3000 he is out of my price league anyway
  17. Yes... one of mine doesnt like to step onto fingers. If I offer him my hand fingers first he bites... hard. If I grin and bear it, he will then step up. He is very wobbly at the best of times and has very small toes compared to my older grey. I think he just doesnt feel secure on something as small as a couple of fingers. I have no ideas on how to stop him biting me though, I am hoping eventually he will learn that I dont drop him and that he is safe on my hand. He doesnt do this to my husband, he is bonded to him rather than me.
  18. I dont even own a book about greys... I have learned so much from the internet and this site in particular. If you have internet access, use this site - its free. Some of the people on here have owned greys for years, some own multiple greys. One lady has 4 pet greys, what she doesnt know probably isnt worth knowing! And the best thing is you can ask a question and it is answered almost immediately because there are members all over the world in different time zones. Do I sound like I have a shareholding in this site or something? I dont! I am just really impressed with it
  19. You could try offering cooked vegetables instead of raw. Or you could try hiding them in homemade birdy bread (lots of recipes in this forum). Try threading them on a stainless steel skewer and hanging them in the cage. You could try maybe grating some fruit or veg into the seed mix.
  20. Just a little more inspiration.... Since I quit smoking I put the money aside I would have spent on cigarettes and I have : 1. Bought Liath a HUGE cage 2. Had Lasek eye surgery (€2,500) 3. Bought Oisin Food for thought anyone???? Siobhan
  21. I read it too. But I didnt find it quite as easy as he said. But I love the boat story... the guy qho went out for a day sailing wiht his friend and realised he had no ciggies, so he made his friend turn around and go back. That sounds so like me its scary! He makes you feel like a total idiot for smoking doesnt he but not in a patronising way? I reckon you would have to have a fairly thick skin to read that book and NOT quit! Keep up the good work...I am rooting for you!
  22. I use the handheld shower thingy and I stand her in the bottom of the bath. I lift each wing and stretch it out so I can soak them properly, and then wet her back. She does love her bath, or shower as she calls it. But she has never laughed before. I couldnt believe it!! (oisin is not so good. he just sits there and sulks. He lets me do what I need to do but he doesnt speak to me for hours afterwards)
  23. I know that this is probably a stupid question but are Greys ticklish? When they laugh they dont mean to laugh do they... its just a sound they are imitating isnt it? The reason I ask is that I was bathing Liath this evening, and she was giving out loads... and when I lifted her wing to wash her body she laughed. She laughed again when I did the other wing.... Its just coincidence isnt it?
  24. I know exactly how she feels. One of my poor doggies was killed on the road before Christmas and now my outdoor cat makes free with the dog flap. I was walking down the stairs on Tuesday with Liath and Oisin on each hand, and the cat had got in and jumped at me. She scared both birds and Oisin being a baby and a little clumsy landed on the floor. Luckily I got him before the cat did. I have been on to the ISPCA to try to get the cat rehomed. I like cats... but not as much as my birds
  25. Brilliant!!! :P I have to give you karma for that one !
