I would love to be able to have something in my hands and have a grey sit nicely on my shoulder like that:laugh: . As soon as I pick anything up its a mad scramble down my arm to have a play with it.

When Lovemygreys gets out of her bed I am sure she will steer you in the right direction:lol: :woohoo: I am no help at all sorry! Got both of mine at 4 months weaned!

Honestly, I don't have a clue! I know nothing about hand feeding, but Lovemygreys has written a great article on the subject... http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-nursery/73409-handfeeding-a-baby-grey.html This may help you;)

Do you give her a treat when you got her in to the cage? When the door is closed I would give her a grape or a pine nut, something she LOVES so that she knows its worth going back in. And maybe stay and chat to her for a while. She probably sees it as, I am having fun minding my own business, then Mammy comes over and takes me, and puts me back in jail and walks away. Where she could see it as, I am having fun minding my own business and then Mammy brings me home, gives me a treat and a chat.

{Feel-good-0002006E} Sorry for laughing, but I have visions of a little grey running around the house and the rest of you chasing her. Oh dear, yes sounds like honeymoon is definitely over:P Liath had a thing about going back to her cage, she was a little more dignified about it though:laugh: There are 3 doors off the room she is in and she would fly from the top of one to the top of the other to the top of her cage. While I climbed up and down off chairs trying to get her to step up! Eventually through reading posts here I decided I am big she is small, I am smart and she is.... smarter... I closed all the doors and put a chair beside the cage BEFORE I asked her to step up. I would just insist she step up and eventually she would. When she was back in the cage she would get a grape. Now she knows there is no point in messing, she gets the grape quicker if she is a good girl. I also got her to step up and then didnt put her back in the cage, just moved her somewhere for a cuddle. So stepping up doesnt always mean end of the fun. Unfortunately all of this assumes that Sammie does know what step up means!!

Wow you didnt hang around did you? What is her name? She and Charlie have the same age difference as my 2 I think, you will have so much fun in a year or so when they start chatting back and forth

There are lots and lots of threads on feather plucking. If you do a search for them you should come across quite a few. Here is one thread that is very good http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/57890-an-insight-into-plucking.html#58060

Budgies dont eat a lot, they are so tiny. So the chances are he is eating when you arent watching. If he is sitting up on his perch and playing as usual he is most probably eating and drinking. Is he pooping at all? If so he must be getting something in!<br><br>Post edited by: siobha9, at: 2008/05/19 08:52

{Feel-good-0002006B} Not buying a bird huh? We believe ya! If its any consolation, my sons name is Conor and he is a 5' long sour puss named Conor Is Connor still hand tame? Will he step up? He looks gorgeous. And I notice that he needed lots of new toys and a bed as well!

What's the difference between a man and a parrot? You can teach a parrot to talk nicely.

{Feel-good-0002006E} I actually read it as it was meant because I have just been away for a couple of days and I missed my guys so badly we came home early! We were planning on coming home this evening and ended up leaving to travel home straight after breakfast this morning. I enjoyed the weekend away, but I loved coming home more I feel your pain Jimmy, but believe me the homecoming they gave me was worth it. I have had so many cuddles and kisses from the pair of them today!

Hi Meike, Welcome to the grey forum. You sound like you have made great progress with Zoey already. 4 weeks isnt a long time in the grand scheme of things and for her to step up for you outside her cage is great progress already. She is very young still. She will eventually realise that stepping up means a new exciting adventure and she will do it readily, the one virtue you learn to have lots of when you have a grey is patience! If she is on top of the cage and wont step up for you, just make sure she has no food up there, eventually hunger will encourage her to go back into her cage. I always leave water in the dish on the play top, but if they want food they have to go back inside.

Hi Teresa, Welcome to the grey forum. Why dont you introduce yourself and your grey to us in the Welcome room. Pictures would be lovely too;)

Congratulations Granny! Is the baby born yet? Do you know if its a boy or girl?
-
Just watch the walls My guys love them but they are very messy and strawberry juice stains!
-
My crate is stainless steel. No coating. I have never used it for my greys, I havent needed to. But I think if I was travelling somewhere (after I win the lottery) I will defintely consider using it.

No sugar or milk! I make the oatmeal on a little water and add some juiced fruits like apple or orange to cool it down and make it a bit runny.

I am at home during the day, so my routine is slightly different. I let them out at 9.30 once I am back from my school runs. They usually play on the gym on top of their cages while I do bits and pieces. If I am upstairs I bring them with me and put them on top of a door or on the bannisters. About noon I put them back in, with a fresh meal of some sort. It varies depending on time etc... but it is usually scrambled egg, porridge or fruit. Again at 4 I let them out when I get home from school runs. Then in the evening when we have our main meal they get some of that in their cages. I had to stop them being out at meal times because Liath in particular would run from plate to plate and drive us nuts:S . If I am studying I usually sit at the table in the dining room where they are, but they are in their cages. (They love to eat books and pens) but I talk to them when I am studying. After dinner if I am home they get out at about 7, later if I have a meeting or whatever. And they stay out till about 11pm. I try not to have too rigid a routine in case I need to go somewhere or I have company over. I think if the routine is like clockwork they would get upset if it changed. So I keep them guessing!

Its very unlikely. Also your CAG would be much bigger than your dads friends TAG, so he could actually harm the timneh. The only thing you could probably share is stories about them It would be interesting to see which bird does what first, and what sort of personalities they have though. Especially if you get them at the same time and roughly the same age.

We're sorry Judy... couldnt resist winding you up a little...  Seriously though, I will go down tomorrow. Or maybe send the kids. I have to climb through high grass and nettles and for the moment his perch has survived another day
-
Its just that - every bear that ever there was is gathered there today because today is the day the teddy bears have their picnic. Maybe I will go tomorrow {Feel-good-0002006E}
