Oh by the way I'm from Oregon too. Nice to see a fellow Oregonian.

All my greys are females but I don't think Male/Female is better or worse. Also my three greys have been rehomed birds and I'm Lucky to report I haven't had any behavioral issues...Maybe I did have one with my Congo, she came to me when she was 14 months old and she would make this very loud cockatiel call (her previous owner had tiel)but it was 5 times as loud as a tiel..Luckily I totally ignored the call and within a short time she forgot all about making that obnoxious noise. I would say my Timnehs are really a lot less demanding then my congo, and also a whole lot quieter.

Hello and welcome to the forum...Good for you for considering an older bird and giving it a chance in your home. Do lot's of research and good luck in whatever decision you decide.

Hello and welcome back. -
All my greys have been rehome birds....I don't think I'd do it any other way. Luckily for me none of them came to me with behavior issues. My first timneh was 3 when I got her, my congo was 14 mos, and my most recent timneh was an abandoned bird found in an apartment by my bro in law...She is so sweet, I've no idea why someone abandoned her. I think when homing and older grey, you kinda know what your getting personality wise right off...and there are so many that need homes. Good luck in your decision.

Hello there. I own 2 timnehs, and 1 congo, all of which are loving affectionate parrot's. Here are a few of my observations with my grey's...My congo is much louder then the timnehs, a bit more stubborn, but a bit more clownish in her play and antic's. My Timneh Granny who I've had for 10 yrs is the best talker, and has taught my Congo much of her extensive vocab. My congo is more prone to making annoying sounds and picking up these sounds and making noise with much gusto. My other timneh is new to us we've only had her 4 wks, but I notice she doesn't talk, but like the congo is keen to many household sounds. All my grey's are excellent mimic's that tend to learn from each other. I've noticed my new timneh this morning is trying to imitate my little green cheek conure, and she's only been around her for a few day's now. Grey's dont miss a beat, and are extremely perceptive of the environment. My suggestion as others here have mentioned is to meet both Timneh and Congo...forget about size and look's and go with the individual that seems to be the best match for you and your girl. All my greys have been 2nd hand parrot's, and all are very individual in personality...Good luck in finding the perfect match

I've seen that hoarders when it first ran last year. I noticed she is here in Oregon not far from where I live..I felt bad for her birds, but I think she feels this is the only thing she has going for her, those birds love her unconditionally.

Hello Megan and welcome to the forum. It's been awhile since I myself have posted here. I have three Greys 1 congo, 2 timneh, I got my first grey about 10 yrs ago which was a little Timneh. I don't think the bonding thing is correct, I've had no problems with my greys bonding to me, although I do have a family my birds seem to know I am the bird person...I do all the care giving & feeding, I'm also the only one that spends quality time with them, so I guess they've just naturally bonded to me. I would say greys are generally more relaxed then your too, and the congo's can be more prone to picking feathers over the smaller timneh grey. I don't know which grey you prefer Congo Or Timneh, but I say meet both and see what you think, they have equal qualities. Congo being a bit bigger is going to be a bit louder, although as parrot's go, I believe the African species to be the quietest. Are you considering a older bird or a baby, All my grey's have been 2nd hand birds and I've had wonderful result's. Good Luck Also wanted to add, congrats on your success with your too, that's great your having good results with feather growth.

Please consider an older grey too. There are so many in need of homes.

Good for you. Sounds like a wonderful arrangement all the way around. Cant wait to hear more. -
Right on. Love it...I use to have remotes with buttons, now they've been peeled off.

Thanks for the response. I am glad they are teaching each other. I dont necessarily do speech training they seem to pick up what they hear around the house, or words I use when interacting with them. Both are female and although the picture shows them together, I can only do this for pictures and under close supervision. They don't get along because Ruby is quite bossy, and mean so I really have to watch and make sure she does not terrorize Granny(tag)

I've been trying to get my Tag on Youtube, but everytime I upload it I dont get sound. I've become frustrated and give up. When I get it ironed out I will let you all know.

Hello all. It's been quite awhile since I've posted last. Would like to add an update. Last year in Sept I purchased a Congo, I already had a timneh for about 7yrs. The congo was only a little over a year when purchased, and not yet talking. Within 4 mos she developed quite the talking ability, all of which she picked up from Granny the Tag, from sounds the Tag made to all the words she said. Not only did she learn the Timneh's speech, but picked up other words as well. Every morning when getting the birds up I greet them with Good Morning and their name. I've been saying "Good Morning Granny" for 8 yrs, and never had Granny repeated the phrase. Well before long Ruby the Cag was saying the phrase Good Morning Granny, and wouldn't you know that once the Cag started using this phrase the Tag soon followed. Thought it funny that she only decided to start saying this because the Cag said it. It's amazing what they are teaching each other, I wonder if others of Multiple birds have this same type of thing going on??? By the way it's gr8 to be back here. Hope I can participate more often. Hello and Congrats on your pregnancy. I went through this my first 6mos of my pregnancy, and want to say to wait it out a bit, which sounds like you have the option of doing. I knew I could never get rid of my Grey, but yet the near smell of her up close, and the look of pooh real would get the best of me. My husband & teenage daughter were given the bird chores until I was 6 months along, this was about the time I was feeling better. I did worry about my Grey when the baby arrived, but everything worked out, and not one problem. My son is now 3, and bird and child respect one another. I have since added another grey to our family, and couldn't be happier. Good Luck in whatever decision you choose.

What is the best parrot magazine for CAG owners
tibanks replied to LilosMom's topic in The GREY Lounge
I too like Bird Talk, but I also enjoy Companion Parrot Quarterly. -
Thank you Dave...Why sentences and not single words?

I am at my limit with 2 greys a green cheek conure, & flock of budgies. So no more birds for me

Hello Fellow Grey Owners. Sorry it's been a few months since I've been here at the forum..my computer took a crap so needless to say I couldn't be around. I am a owner of a 10 y/o Tag, & 1.5 y/o Congo, I've had my first Tag grey for 7years, and my congo for about 4 mos. My question is speech training..How many practice this, setting time aside for just the speech training? I have to admit, I dont set any individual time aside for my birds for this type of training. My Tag came to me already talking, and she continues to learn new words she hears us use around the house, or words we use when interacting with her. Now my Congo, only says a few words, but I hear her muttering alot. I hope she will learn speech in the same way my Tag does, and just picks up stuff she hears us use a bit. I guess Im just wondering if others birds picked up speech on their own? Or did you set time aside for speech training?

I have 2 greys...A 10 y/o female timnah, who is a very good talker and saying new things often. Also have a 1.5 y/o Congo Female who is just learning saying only a few words like No, Hello, Good Night. She also loves to make many sound affects. She is still learning, and I hear her muttering everyday. I have to say I dont speech train. My birds seem to generally just pick up on words they hear the most used around them.
