lol, I think Elmo's first word will be "what" too. He's almost got it, just needs some fine tuning.
-
Thank god you found him. I would be sick to my stomach if that happened to me too. Keep an eye on him, but I'm sure he is fine. B)
-
ohhh, Dayo is so cute. I love it when Greys learn other bird noises.
-
Yeah...named him just in time for X-mas too. I just don't know where the time went. It feels like just yesterday he was a ball of fluff that begged for food all day long...now he's a 9 month old monster that begs for food all day!
-
LOL…I’ve been calling him “the baby”. I’ve been having the worst creativity block and being indecisive by nature and knowing he’ll be around till I’m 80 really put the pressure on me. All my family was giving me such a hard time about it too Judy, so your not alone in the peanut gallery. LOL

When I moved into a Duplex a few years ago it was like the movie "Joe's Appartment"...roaches would fall from the door frame when you opened the door. It was NASTY!!! I put the food traps and the gel in all the places that roaches like to go and kept the A/C as low as it would go. They don't like the cold and when they would go under the frig for heat there would be a nice toxic treat waiting for them. It was only a month or so before they were all gone.

I know, I know, I'm horrible...I have a 9 month old CAG that I got when he was only 6 weeks old and he did not have a name...till NOW! I finally decided on naming him Elmo…because when we play he acts like a tickle me Elmo doll. Plus he’s got the red tail. LOL.

I can't believe how much Cosmo looks like my grey...color, size, beak...the only big diff is my baby is 9 months so his eyes are much lighter.

To add a note to what Ziggy said... Most South American parrots will communal flock…Amazons, Macaws, and Conures will merge into one big flock in the wild. The theory of why Conures are so loud is based on this. Such a small bird flocking with such larger species would never get heard, so they evolved to have a big bird voice to match the rest. Most African birds don’t communal flock and will only be with members of it’s own kind and this is probably why most of them are so much quieter…they don’t need to out scream anyone.

Yeah, thats exactly what I see everyday...birds that like eachother will bicker like an old married couple. I wouldn't be too worried about them.
-
Well, As you all know I work at a pet store with a ton of birds and I see the spats they have all the time. There are 8 macaws in one pit and they get along just fine. I have seen the behavior that you are talking about with them and i have never seen it go into an all out cage match. We have some Nanday conures in another pi that start fights and when a fight is on the mind it normally doesn't start with just a few beak bumps...it's basicly go time from the start.

PET KINGDOM! hahaha...my store:laugh: I really like www.featherfarm.com...they have a huge finch/conure cage for only $100 w/ free shipping. I'm also getting some finches shipped in on Delta from www.singing-wings-aviary.com and they seem great so far.

Post edited by: BMustee, at: 2007/12/19 18:58

I would have started giving baths sooner, being more touchy feely with him, and getting him out in public more. Other than that I don't think I have done too much wrong with him. He loves me and is a good boy 95% of the time. He is fine staying in his cage all day when I'm at work...and a few days I work 2 jobs so I'm gone from 6am to 9pm, but I come home for 45min to let him out and change for job #2. I'm glad he is so good with changing schedules because not being able to adapt to them seems to be one of the biggest reasons they start to pluck. We have a friendship stronger than any I have had with a person (other than my b/f) and I can't picture my life without him.

My greys father is a smaller grey and pretty light in color...his mother is one of the biggest and darkest I have ever seen so the color of the body is not the way to go for "guess" sexing. My boy my be a girl because he does have the grey tips on the underside of the tail and his beak isn't as big as some of the baby greys at my work. If you ask me he looks just like is father. I read into the tail sexing and it says that you can only go by that after the first molt.
-
Yeah, as Judy said being older he may need a little while before he "trusts" the new cage. The stand it great too.
-
Oh no, Joe...Don't leave!
-
{Feel-good-0002006E} Dave, you are one sarcastic SOB...LOL...your too funny! I agree with Judy. Any form or attention is attention...even going over to the cage to cover it is attention. I had a Sun that started screaming because my step mom would yell at him to shut up when he would make his normal sounds during the day and it turned into an attention seeking game for him to start screaming. The only way to get it to stop is to ignore all noises you do not want to hear by leaving the room. Now, if he is just a chatty grey and it's not attention getting he wants then your pretty much SOL....but like what Chapala said, it might just be too much to ask for a parrot to be quite on a daycare schedule.
-
yeah...wait till he no longer needs the night feeding. One thing going wrong with hand feeding can kill the baby in a second. Other mishaps can cause massive damage to the crop.
-
Maybe he is mad at you for leaving...and thats why he bites when he gets like that.
-
Although I don't think this will stop the picking, you said you don't really get the bird wet because he doesn't like it...well, he should get a bath if he likes it or not. A lot of people use Aloe juice because it acts like a moisturizer for their skin...but they need to be saturated not just sprayed a little. Search the forum for Aloe and Baths…there is a lot of info on that here.
-
hmmmmm, well it sounds to me like there is some separation anxiety that is attached to the picking. I have heard a lot of stories that are similar to yours and it's always the birds that get the all day attention and when it stops due to vacation, hospital stay, or things like that it's right to plucking. The one question I have is how often did you go out of town before this started and how often have you gone after it started with the picking happening?

What size cage do you all have for your congo grey
BMustee replied to Barbie36's topic in The GREY Lounge
Yeah, ever sense I got the cage from the ebay store I've been telling everyone about them. I got the dome top but I'm going to buy a second cage with the play top to go on my back porch. For how much I saved the cost of two cages from ebay would be the cost of one from a store. I work at a pet store and I know what we buy them for and what we sell them for. For example, we bought a tree stand from a dealer for $70…it’s selling price is $200. Never buy cages and stands from retail stores because you are getting ripped. -
How are Kings Cages Economy Line not the European
BMustee replied to Barbie36's topic in The GREY Lounge
I don't know what brand my cage is, I'm pretty sure it's not a king cage though. If your looking for a good cage at a good price you should take a look at this ebay store http://stores.ebay.com/Demsond-Pet-Depot_Parrot-Cages I got told about it by Dave007...he got most of his cages from them too. -
LOL...I bet whoever took your Karma is burnin' right now seeing your karma go up...LOL

Yeah, there was a lady that came on the forum that got a CAG and was still giving it 3 feedings a day at 14 weeks!!! I was like "You need to drop a feeding...it's not good for them to NOT wean!" She was all like, "I don't want to stress him..." GEESH!
