  1. nite everyone. the season change is messing me up a little...gotta wake up before the sun  ...thought i'd bring this topic back to life though, along with my attendance on this site!
  2. um all you need is 1/4 of a tsp each day you want to give them the palm oil (twice a week is sufficient) but you can just add it to something that will absorb it like pellets or oatmeal.. you can check out my "unhealthy feathers" post..theres a lot of info there.
  3. i moved into my new apartment in the beginning of september. i left rox with my mom /: which i was bummed about, but i just figured as though i needed to test out my roommates and their habits before i brought roxy into this new atmosphere. so its been about a month and my roommates have thrown a few parties. i believe that the novelty of it is out of their systems along with mine and this really will be more of a lo-key environment..(aka they can go elsewhere for entertainment) so i'm now thinking (its been a slow process) that this is a suitable environment for roxy to live...i am definitely adjusted to living here so i think that will bring comfort to her. also, i have the perfect spot for her in my room (the sunniest/soothing of all places) i'm going to get into contact with my landlord to approve her residency and soon enough i think i'm gonna do it! oh and a great thing about being here... im literally 20 miles closer to her vet so i just wanted to post cuz i'm siked! i mean i've been going home on weekends to see her but its not enough(!) i'm sure you know what i mean. mom takes great care of her..but i miss my bud. okkk so if any of you have any advice as far as college life goes/ safety wise/ activity wise..anything, i would love some input

oh by the way...2 months later i decide to tell you lol... i got the scale i ordered off ebay. i was so sure rox wouldn't dare go near it but to my surprise she stepped right on it. got a pretty clear reading: 295 grams
  5. i dont think i have ever witnessed roxy eating her pellets. shes just tosses them to my jack russel who enjoys them instead. i bet you soaking them/ turning them to mush would seem much more appetizing to her. i'm going to try it. thanks for the idea christina
  6. danmcq, i have been paying close attention to the way she has been acting..seems fine..active, talkitive and droppings look normal. i wanted to be on the safe side tho and get a second opinion mr. spock thank you thank you. i had a feeling that was the case..i will start treatment asap. she normally takes showers with me anyway but i will make sure her back side is taken care of the aloe juice i can get anywhere like a cvs/drug store? or is it more for avian care? thank you all for immediate responses cant tell you how much i appreciate it.
  7. its only on the lower part...her upper back looks fine
  8. i do! i know...they are all a little out of focus..she hates when i go behind her back..this was a half hour afair for me to coax her into letting me take some pics lol a couple more..
  9. recently i have noticed roxy's tail and back feathers are not as shiny as they used to be..they have developed these white specks on them.. (ignore the one flight feather that was not clipped) could this be a vitamin deficiency or dryness?
  10. its the truth! parrots/ tree birds are known to be "drop feeders". they drop half their food to predators below them so as to keep them occupied and satisfied. smart smart. roxy does this with jazz (my jack russel terrior) jazz sits patiently at the bottom of roxy's perch and waits for hand outs. i'm dying to get a picture of it one of these days.
  11. do you know a good list of certain types of seeds to use for this process? basic vegetables or..
  12. so i'm sitting here looking at my 7 year old timneh. her name is roxy and she was born on april 12th, 2000. i've had her since she was 3 months old. you could say i'm crazy about her. if i am home she is out of her cage doing at least one of many activities she has grown accustomed to..we are very much so an italian family so eating is held on the high priority list...also, roxy loves to take showers, and as a treat sleep on a perch next to me in my room. her wings are clipped for now , but we will see what is to come later in life. i am a student at mass art in boston. i LOVE it there..i am a returning sophmore and will graduate in 2010. i am majoring in secondary art education...hopefully earning myself a teaching position in a high school. i'm siked to have found this forum. i've only been on here for the past few days and already i have been welcomed with warm and helpful advice. i appreciate it greatly and look forward to corresponding with this community! 14. a man named ted was aboard a ship sailing through the caribbean. This ship was brought to a harbor for two days where the men were able to leave its deck and have some fun at the local pubs for sanity's sake. A few drinks in, ted was lounging outside under an umbrella enjoying the night. on the fence next to him sat an interesting tropical bird he found to be quite entertaining for he kept spitting out some witty phrases spoken in the island's native tongue. ted found this bird far to intriguing to leave behind. a day later the sailors were back on the ship along with a new member. the bird..now named frank always found a comfortable spot on ted's shoulder. the men went about their ways..swearing their heads off. soon enough the bird picked up enough catch phrases to make any sailor proud. however, one day the captain declared the general's arrival and that each sailor was to greet him with the utmost respect. it just so happened that this same day, frank decided to be as vocal as possible. he was throwing out every foul word he knew. ted warned him. it didnt do anything.. he warned him again and put frank in a cabinet. the bird scratched and clawed and became even more vulgar. finally ted grew so desperate for the bird to shut up that he threw him in the freezer. at first frank scratched and squawked but then he suddenly grew very quiet. ted, waited at first but then became concerned for he thought he had hurt the bird. he opens up the freezer door. the bird meekly climbes onto ted's outstretched hand and apologizes for his behavior. he said he would never swear again. frank then asks with a grave undertone..."by the way, what did the chicken do??"

she has had about 3 wellness checkups in the past. the last one was 2 years ago...altho we had an incident about 5 months ago where i took her in to angel memorial..she nicked her wing on a table when she was trying to fly to me. the avian she saw was the best vet i've probably ever seen. very thorough..and she actually didnt recommend clipping roxy's wings surprisingly. but anyway, i would count that as a checkup thank you for the advice btw...i'll definitely lay low around her. no more kisses i guess  she doesn't seem to be showing any signs of weight loss altho..how should i weigh her?? and i'm familiar with leaving feathers puffed as a tell tail sign and she hasnt been doing anything like that either. i'll keep updated..thanks guys! prob me just being a neurotic mother lol

heyy guys, insomnia has gotten the best of me. i cant sleep because of this cold. my babygirl is asleep downstairs but i've been a little concerned..i just changed her cage around and she's definitely not used to it yet..so i know theres some stress coming from that, but also..i've given her a few kisses (i cant help it!)/ have been around her 24/7 with this virus. i just hope shes getting enough sleep and isnt stressed out enough to the point of getting sick..not to mention my germs. she's eating great..the only scary thing (to me) is that birds keep their guard up and don't really show when they aren't feeling well. does poop tell me everything or should i get her checked out wadda you think?
