1. matt314159 do buy a clicker they are so cheap & it is such a great training aid
2. Makena i so agree with your last post, i think the majority of our greys eat healthier than most of us Kaytee is fine, not all birds like harrisons !
3. Vera you are a naughty girl ! Tari her chest area does seem to have improved in the picture, but i wonder what goes on in her little head to start on a new patch. You are doing good by her Tari, karma to you.
4. Wow That is looking good Tari, Is it your own personal aviary or related to your work ?
5. Hi Nicole, is the screaming a constant ear piercing scream ? Something she didint do before she was being looked after ? Some parrots scream as a way to get attention. The cycle must be broken in order to change the negative behavior. Reward your bird when s/he doesn’t scream and never reward your bird when it does.Completley ignore the screaming behaviour as hard as it may be, never show any reaction.shower your bird with attention and love once the screaming stops.
6. CD they are wonderful pictures, You clearly are one very talented photographer. I love looking at your pictures.
7. Thanks for posting you guys, kiwibarb12 some great tips there i know what you mean about feeding the kids !! Just a reminder that fruit & veg should be offered daily to your greys alongside their pellet or seed diet
8. Way to go Melissa That's what i'm looking for
9. RobertsKitty a good post, asking members for first hand experience is a good way to learn. Books are great informative resources, but human experiences can't be beaten.I have no experience with quakers but i do hope some of the other members will be able to help you out.
10. It is such early days with your new grey to be leaving her alone, she will be getting use to her new surroundings, you & your family & finding her confidence. Is it possible that a friend or family member can come & stay at your house for the few days you are away ?

success??

Hi tiahtig, We have a welcome room why not come & introduce yourself to our members in there Wolf whistle seems a very popular thing with young greys.muttering away to them selves is quite normal, sometimes it is if they are practising words they have heard. If you use the search box which is above the post a new topic on the top of the page & type in "Talking" you will be able to read all the topics on greys talking.
12. I have 3 greys, my two boys started talking at 6 months, but i do know of greys that have started talking as young as 3/4 months. If you are talkative around your bird then he will pick up words far quicker that a bird who doesnt hear much talking !They are all individual & vary so much.Enjoy his talking
13. Hi & Welcome, At 2 years old she is still young enough to teach her to step up, be patient with her. Slowly extend your hand to the bird, Some birds can be frightened by sudden movements and may not be used to being handled. Make sure that at first you move very slowly and stay calm to avoid scaring her.Gently press your index finger to the bird's lower abdomen, most birds will automatically step-up when they sense pressure on their bellies. Using a calm, pleasant voice, say "Step-Up": With regular training, your bird will soon recognize this command as her cue to step onto your hand. Reward her with lavish praise & sometimes a small treat when she does it.

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2007/10/07 21:22
