  1. 10:00am here, just drinking a cup of coffee. A high of 83 is expected today. I am about to pack a picnic lunch for my friend and I. We are throwing on our bathing suits and heading for the beach! I'd day it's a great day for a swim in the ocean B)
  2. Hey! Makena's B-Day is on May 8th as well!
  3. Makena is always chewing the newspaper on the top of his cage and if he can reach the curtains he will go after those. He chews my fingers, shirts and hair all the time. If I leave him alone for five seconds he will fly off his cage and chew the carpet, floorboards, walls, or anything laying on the floor. He chews the sofa, pillows and blankets. When he perches on my computer he loves to chew the screen. When I take him in the shower he is always trying to chew the perch and shower head. If I bring him in the kitchen he will run down my arm and try to chew the coffee pot, can opener, toaster, basically anything he can get his talons on. I wouldn't be surprised if "NO MAKENA" were his first words! :pinch: I know he knows what it means, he just doesn't like to listen!!
  4. Don't get me started on bugs!   If I don't see another cockroach, centipede, mosquito, cane spider, ant or scorpion for the rest of my life I would be a happy camper! At least we don't have snakes in Hawaii!
  5. I want a big garden so bad!!! I am sooooooo jealous of you guys!!
  6. A baked potato with lasagna?!?!?! That lady is nuts, I have never eaten a potato with lasagna in my life!! Blech!! I'll take my potato with a nice juicy steak please... With lasagna give me some crusty bread to make sure I get up all the sauce Joe's recipes are awesome!! I am so glad it turned out well!! So is your daughter going to cook all the meals from now on????
  7. I must have a weird grey... He doesn't want anything to do with our food! Makena loves crunchy stuff, especially dry noodles. And the best part, they are salt free!
  8. OMG Joe!! I am so glad you are ok!! 12:00pm here, 83 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Typical Hawaii day. They tested the tsunami sirens a little while ago and Makena freaked out. Some cuddles and a noodle were all it took to make him happy as a clam
  9. I find that getting it wet with a little soapy water, then letting it sit for a while does wonders. Wipes right off
  10. Oh jeez!! I just about had a heart attack when I read the thread title! I thought I forgot!! Glad to know we still have a while here in the US. Happy Mothers Day Everyone!!
  11. Makena gets about 1/2 cup of fresh stuff 3 times a day. And he usually polishes it all off! He loves anything in a pod (peas, green beans, edamame) and papayas. I make a big batch of whatever I have around about every 2-3 days. It usually consists of about 75% veggies and 25% fruits. It's always different stuff, depending on what looks good at the store and what's on sale on the frozen aisle. Whenever I give him his bowl of food he immediately goes through it and takes out everything he doesn't like and throws it on the floor! Then he starts eating... What a turkey!! We only give white foods (white bread, pasta, rice, potatoes) as a treat. If Makena had his way his diet would consist of 100% dried noodles! I usually always give him a little bit of whole grain bread, beans, popcorn, etc. if I am eating some but I don't typically add it to his mix. Every grey is different and everyone feeds them a little differently, you just have to find what works! Good luck!
  12. You know you are a bird person when... You can't ever imagine your life without a bird in it
  13. Woohoo Laurie!! That is awesome!! Sometimes pounds aren't the most important thing, it's all about that muscle. I bet your clothes are fitting great!
  14. Makena

    i'm back!

Yah!! I am so glad you are back!! I have been wondering where you had gone off too!! So happy to know that everything is a-ok!
  15. Having been born and raised in California I have been through lots of earthquakes. One of which caused about $25,000 worth of damage to our house. I am terrified of them! We have had a few small ones here in Hawaii since we have had Makena but nothing seems to startle him. I guess we will see once we get back to California! I am glad everyone is ok. Hopefully there aren't any aftershocks!! :pinch:
  16. LOL! I had a friend over the other day, she wanted to hold Makena and of course got pooped on. She freaked out and wanted a change of clothes immediately! She was going to go home if I didn't get it for her... Jeez!!!
  17. I consider cooking my hobby. I love to experiment and invent new dishes! I sometimes go a month without ever having the same dinner twice! I spend hours in the kitchen and love every minute of it! Same question, Do you have any hobbies beside your bird/birds?
  18. All your cell phone photos are of your birds. You are dying to get rid of your carpet and put in hard wood floors. Your birds get better food than you do! Your bird gets more kisses than your significant other When you think about a taking a vacation your first thought is "who is going to watch my birds" You can't wait to get home to see your birds
  19. You all should come over to my house and pull some of the geckos off my walls!! The little poopers are yours for the taking!!
  20. Awww!! What a beautiful CAG!!! Great pics!!
  21. I would be more bold, less shy. If you could do one thing over in the past year what would it be?
  22. It's just more reason to support your local agriculture or grow your own
