Oh yeah!? Which island are you going to be on?
-
Here is Makena attacking one of the thousand "I want to sell your condo" realtor fliers we get every week!
-
That's the problem... everyone in Hawaii is on vacation! Makes doing business here difficult !! I agree everyone should take their vacations! Studies have shown that proper rest makes for better workers! And a few mai tais don't hurt B)!!

Hahaha!{Communicate-00020132} I have to say, I am guilty of talking to people on AIM who are in the next room!

Ok procrastination prevailed!! Here ya go... Crust= Whole wheat bread Toppings= Tomatoes, green bell peppers, carrots, mango and starfruit. He watched me make it and was going nuts... once I laid it out in front of him he seemed overwhelmed! Is this all for ME!??!?! You can see what we do all day! :silly: Well how would you feel if you were perching on a carrot!?!?! After going to town for about 1/2 an hour, he decided he had enough, turned around, pooped on the plate and crawled up to my shoulder... here is the aftermath...

Post edited by: Makena, at: 2007/09/23 01:37

We live in Kihei, which is on the South side just before you hit Wailea. Maui is my favorite island too, which is why we chose to move here! We are actually both born and raised Californians...
-
Well Judy... I think you just need more vacation time!! And if you do come to Hawaii, you at least better make a pit stop on Maui... I don't think Makena would forgive you if you didn't. {Feel-bad-00020072}

Come to Maui! I can give you tons of info on that! Our biggest vacation in the last year was going to Oahu for the day to pick up Makena... And we probably won't go anywhere else for a while. I don't trust anyone to watch Makena for us... and we could take him with us, but I don't want to subject him to 8 hours travel time each way, plus a new house and new cage :pinch:!

Makena scratches sometimes too... I think it is normal. He did it a lot when he was younger, but it is slowly tapering off. Him trying to get out of the cage also sounds pretty normal. Makena hates being in his cage and will try everything possible to get out! His new thing is he will go lay upside down in his food bowl, legs straight up in the air and will just sit there until we come over and get him... pretty funny as that is quite the vulnerable position for a bird! I wouldn't worry.. sound like normal baby behavior! Welcome to the forums!

Hello and welcome!!! Small cage, sausage and chips? Oh dear... Floyd sure is lucky to have you now! Sounds like it is going to take some time for Floyd to break out of his shell and become comfortable with you. It will happen though, don't worry . Fruits and veggies are wonderful, but I would recommend also supplementing them with pellets. They are easy as they don't spoil and provide lots of nutrition for the grey. Congrats on your new child and welcome to the flock!!!

I just had this one emailed to me... Yesterday I was buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for Athena the wonder dog at Wal-Mart and was about to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog. On impulse, I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, and that I was starting the Purina Diet again. Although I probably shouldn't, because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry and that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story.) Horrified , she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no; I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's butt and a car hit us both. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack, he was laughing so hard! WAL-MART won't let me shop there anymore!!!

AWWW!!! So cute... I am so excited for you!! Good luck with the wait, I know it will be torture !

Our vet only had the coarse so we got it. Makena doesn't seem to have a problem with them, in fact I think he likes the challenge! We do have it mixed in with another brand that has smaller pieces. He goes back and forth between the 2. We probably would have got the fine if they had it. Maybe get both and mix them together... see what he picks out!

I agree with Judy... I think it is extremely tacky to teach birds curse words. We try very hard to make sure we don't say anything "four lettered" in front of Makena. We won't even watch R rated movies with him in the room! I would be devastated to hear something dirty come out of such a sweet bird's mouth. Our out bursts have turned into "shoot" or "oh know" or "darn it". I guess it makes us look a little classier too ! Plus it prepares us for having children! I am not offended at all by the post. That is another persons decision to teach their bird those words. I on the other hand plan to do my best to keep my little Makena rated G !

Absolutely gorgeous, you have a wonderful talent !! I can't wait to get a new camera. I think we are going to get the Nikon you suggested. Then we can have a Hawaii vs. Caribbean photo competition, with a few of Makena thrown in there for good measure! That ship is unbelievable... I can imagine it is very overwhelming! A floating city... hmm... not sure how I feel about that... I guess I will have to try it someday and see.
-
Luck for you... not for the people who live in the Caribbean :pinch:!! I guess that is a risk you take living in paradise or choosing to vacation there! So got any more pictures for us? I can't get enough!!
-
Very nice pictures!! Thank you so much for sharing them! As far as it being as pretty as Hawaii...hmm... I guess it is a close call !! Good thing your trip wasn't a few days later... I heard on the news tonight that the caribbean is being attacked by a hurricane !!
-
Awww!! That is wonderful news... I can't even imagine how horrible that was!!! I think this will make us all a little more careful....

Maybe you have heard this one before... but it is still funny! Jerry received a parrot for his birthday. The parrot was fully-grown with a bad attitude and worse vocabulary. Every other word was an expletive. Those that weren't expletives were, to say the least very rude. Jerry tried hard to change the bird's attitude and was constantly saying polite words, playing soft music, anything he could think of to try and set a good example. Nothing worked. He yelled at the bird and the bird yelled back. He shook the bird and the bird just got angrier and became even more rude. Finally in a moment of desperation. Jerry put the parrot in the FREEZER. For a few moments he heard the bird squawk and kick and scream. Then suddenly, there was a quiet----- Not a sound for half a minute. Jerry was frightened that he might have hurt the bird and quickly opened the freezer door. The Parrot calmly stepped out onto Jerry's extended arm and said: "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I will endeavor at once to correct my behavior. I really am truly sorry and beg your forgiveness." Jerry was astonished at the bird's change in attitude and was about to ask what had made the difference and caused such a dramatic change when the parrot continued: "May I ask what the chicken did???"

W:woohoo:W Judy!! Keep up the posts, I always enjoy reading them!!

Yah!! How exciting! Thanks so much for sharing those pics... It sure is interesting what they start out looking like!

Thanks for the nice words guys I think I will just continue to keep it near him and let him decide when he is ready. Hopefully he will be some day! The guy on the DVD made it look so easy! It was definitely shocking to get the first bite. I have gotten plenty of nibbles before, but nothing hard! I guess it comes with the territory... I knew the bite would come sooner of later :pinch:! It's just so ironic that Makena isn't scared of anything... well at least I thought! He is so calm and laid back. Nothing ever bothers him!! The first thing he ever decides to be scared of is the harness?!? It's like he knows....
-
Awwww!!! That is so awesome... I am waiting for the day too!
-
Not sure if you are still accepting pictures for this... but here is a lovely picture of Makena relieving himself on my carpet !!
-
Arrggg... bad luck so far with the harness! It came in the mail today and we watched the DVD twice. We first decided to let Makena become comfortable with it before even trying to put it on him, as the DVD recommends. So I hung it next to his perch like a typical toy. He immediately puffed up and started attacking it. It seems this harness is the first thing he has ever been scared of :pinch:!! I left the harness hung next to him for a good portion of the day and he finally started acting ok with it. He wasn't puffing up anymore and even took some small nibbles to check it out. So I went over to him and tried to move it a little closer. Well the minute I touched the thing he lashed out at me... I can now officially join the parrot bite me club as I received my first skin piercing bite !! I didn't react, I just kept the thing where it was and walked away. Obviously I didn't have any plans to stick it on him... but man I wasn't expecting him to be scared to death of the site of it! We will see how things go in the future... maybe I will make the fiance in charge of this one !! Here is a picture to show you what I have to deal with!

Post edited by: Makena, at: 2007/09/01 07:04
