We just ordered the Nikon D40x after some wonderful recommendations on here! Thank you so much CD, Talon and HeatherStrella... Hopefully we will be as happy with it as you all are!! We ordered it from Amazon, the price was right and it is one of the only places that has free shipping to Hawaii. We got the body with an 18-55 lens to start out (it was only $70). We eventually want to get the 18-200 lens, but some additional saving is needed :pinch: . Maybe we can talk someone into it as a Christmas/Hanukkah gift! So thank you all!!! Since Makena is from Hawaii we wanted to give him a name that was Hawaiian and African. We came across the name Makena and thought it suited him perfectly! In Hawaiian is means "abundance". In Kikuyu (a tribe of Kenya) it means "happy one". We figure we will give each other an abundance of happiness! Plus the town of Makena is about 20 minutes away from us and has what I think are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Plus it is Andrew's favorite place to go diving. In Hawaii Makena is a female's name and in Africa it is a male's name, so we have our bases covered!

I want rainclouds too!!! It has rained 2 times in the past year at that is not enough for me!!!! Plus we are in a severe drought and the local govt. is threatening to turn off people's water if they go over their alloted limit!! Where are the rain gods when you need em B) B) B)???

There is too much stuff in my freezer to put Makena in :P So you want to hear a cute story? I typically always have my hair up... it is soooo hot here all the time and having my hair on my neck is just one more thing to heat me up! So anyways, the other morning I actually had my hair down and walked into the living room where Makena was. He didn't recognize me and immediately puffed up and went into attack mode!!! LOL!! Then I spoke, he recognized my voice and calmed down... silly bird

Aloha all... 9pm... another hot night! Time for a cold shower before bed!

To give you a little background... 6 years ago I witnessed a horrible death atop Haleakala. It was my best friend's father. Today I finally decided to face my fears and head back up there. I am glad I did as the experience was euphoric. Filling my lungs with 50 degree air for the first time in a year was absolutely amazing! So here are some pics... they aren't the greatest quality but you get the idea . On the way up we saw the most amazing site, 3 Nene's! They are the Hawaiian State Bird and endangered. The Crater... The observatory... Way in the distance you can see the Big Island... Cute Bird... Just in case you were wondering... Looking down the mountain towards our house (which is on the left by the beach). You can also see the obnoxious cane smoke burning that constantly fills our condo with ash!!! :angry::angry::angry: Awesome tree... And last but not least, I leave you with this... Try not to drink the toilet water at Haleakala... That is my PSA for the day :laugh:
