Oh and I made a YouTube channel and plan on uploading any vids I make of her. Quality will be crap cause it's just the vid recorder of a digital camera. http://www.youtube.com/user/mjames8374

This was this morn after her misting. For the smokers out there, this has gotta be the cheapest foot toy around. I just empty all the loose tobacco out of it and blow it out and give it to her to shred. She loves them. Gets a little carried away with them sometimes though. Sometimes she lays on her back on top of the cage and holds it with both feet and smacks herself in the face with em'. Funny as hell when she does.

Does it vary bird to bird? Mine is 2 in April and haven't seen anything yet. When sitting on my leg she has little wax sliver looking things on my leg when she preens sometimes. But no down feathers or anything like that yet.

Found this to go with the seed list 15 Non Dairy Foods High in Calcium Sesame Seeds A quarter cup of sesame seeds has 351 mg calcium. Spinach A cup of boiled spinach has 245 mg. Collard Greens A cup of boiled collard greens has 266 mg. Blackstrap Molasses One tablespoon has about 137 mg. Kelp One cup of raw kelp has 136 mg. Tahini Two tablespoons of raw tahini (sesame seed butter) have 126 mg. Broccoli Two cups of boiled broccoli have 124 mg. Swiss Chard One cup of boiled chard has 102 mg. Kale One cup of boiled kale has 94 mg. Brazil Nuts Two ounces of Brazil nuts (12 nuts) have 90 mg. Celery Two cups of raw celery have 81 mg. Almonds One ounce of almonds (23 nuts) has 75 mg. Papaya One medium papaya has 73 mg. Flax Seeds Two tablespoons of flax seeds have 52 mg. Oranges One medium orange has 52 mg So if they like almonds, sesame seeds and papaya they should be getting close to their calcium they need. I don't know the exact amount needed per day though.

I was gonna suggest a vet too. Unless something changed. A toy, hairstyle, perfume, anything. If nothing changed from one day to the next it would be a red flag for me. Too young to be going through puberty or anything like that. It could very well just be behavioral but to be that sudden I wouldn't take a chance. You said it even when it's eating it screeches is what got my attention. Should be pretty quiet when eating.

Are you in the room w/ the bird when he leaves? If not could be not wanting to be by itself. Or could just be the consistency of him being around. Echo doesn't let my wife pet her or step up but she let's her out while I'm at work and will fly and follow her to whatever room she's in.

Yeah they are definately good mimics. Took me a bit to figure out a recent one but she mimics the times when I could use a gas-x. LOL

Showing affection 99% of the time. Like a mating stance. When Echo does it the does a kind of chirp/panting sound and sometimes bobs her head trying to bring me up a "gift". It annoys some people but I enjoy it. Let's me know just how much she loves me.

The DVD at least. No one online has it. I'd be willing to buy the original from you or a "backup" copy.

Thanks for the replies. It's prolly gonna be about a week now. I got this problem with one of my wrists where it locks up time to time. A free floating bone in my wrist as the doctor puts it. basically nothing holding it in place(previous injury). To get rid of the problem they'd have to fuse the bone together basically making my wrist immobile from then on out. But it's just locked in position and takes a few days for it to work it way back in place. Hurts like hell if I try to move it but I got a brace for it when it acts up. But that's the update. Got 5 rows of squares done the other night but hands got hurting from pulling the knots. Some are still kinda loose. I'll prolly soak it in water when it's finished to get them tighter.

I had made one for her before out of small rope like the one on: http://cheepparrottoysntips.com/knots.html But it didn't last. So went and got some 3/8" sisal rope and decided I'd make one like the get a grip one's, just couldn't find anything bigger than 3/8". 1" is a little too much for a grey I think, 3/4" woulda been ideal I think but this will do I guess. They had 3/4" and 1" in manila but couldn't remember if it was safe or not. Anyways this is after 45m. Woulda been a lot faster if Echo woulda kept from walking through it and grabbing the rope asking me "what are you doing?". Making a toy for you ya dork and would be faster if ya wasn't already trying to play with it, lol. I'll probably finish it after she goes to bed.

People have twins and manage. Same diffrence, just having 2 toddlers around sort of. I wouldn't give up Echo for anything. And I think you would regret it afterwards. Just think the grey's live to 50-70 yrs. Can pass it on to the kid later on down the road.

I think getting the DVD "Training Your Parrot the Alex Way" would be a better investment. My grey is like 2 and i've recently taught her a few labels. Want candy (her treats) Want paper (to shread) and almost got Want corn. And haven't even been doing the model/rival method in the DVD. It's just been 1 on 1. She can't stand when I'm close to my wife so when I get the DVD I expect she'll be trying awful hard to out her "rival". So really you don't need any dvd's or cd's for training you can find plenty of info online. Even for the model/rival method.

I just dont buy pet grade peanuts. If a Bird food I buy has them I dig them out and throw then away. I buy a bag of roasted peanuts from the grocery store because of the moisture like mentioned above and they are FDA approved which has more strict policies in place than pet grade foods for the most part.

Yeah she might actually be 2 1/2 now that I think about it. I know I registered before I got her I think trying to find buying tips and info before I got her. Got her from a breeder and had her dna sexed myself. But yeah alot of it was due to spending time with her. Now I gotta go and check the certificate and see how old she is lol. Time flys when you're having fun.

Echo doesn't really like the other 3 birds or the 4 dogs, but everyone is afraid of Echo so wherever she goes they pretty much stay out of her way. Other birds always stayed away but the dogs had to get chased by her across the floor to get the idea lol. But she doesn't go out of her way to go after anyone either so it all works out.

I've been a member for a while but just now getting around to posting. I have a 1 1/2 yr old female CAG whose name is Echo. Words she knows(in no particular order): Echo Hello That's a pretty girl/baby(says it both ways) What are you doing? Step up Gotta poop What? Huh? Crazy bird Come on Come here Peekaboo(still doesn't quite have the concept of when to say it but getting there) Love you Ready to go to bed Knock it off Daddy's girl Whoah Oh my god Go Get on your cage(likes to get on the floor and bite toes) Want candy(candy is what we call her treats, don't know how we came about that one) Want paper(likes to shred napkins) Shop it That's a good/bad girl(knows when she's being either and says it accordingly lol) Why are you being bad? Get the foot/beak(when playing, she'll hold her foot out to be grabbed and says it, or says it herself and grabs her beak with her foot when on her cage) And a few naughty words from mainly yelling at the dogs who bark at their own shadow: What the f**k Shut the f**k up God da**it S**t(that's one kinda funny, says it sometimes when she goes to bed and the lights go out) Also knows a few of the other pets names. Stewie/Emmy - 2 green cheek conures (knows both names) Cricket - Parrotlet(also calls him "crickie-dickie-doo" what we say to him(cricket) sometimes Duffy - one of our 4 dogs I think that's all she knows. Learing so fast it's kinda hard to keep up. Needless to say she picks up on stuff really fast, some things you don't even want her to pick up on, but even with the dirty words it adds to her personality cause she uses the phrases and the right times almost always. Like when she's having one of her temper-tantrums. But I'm looking into starting the model/rival training since she already seems to be able to label a few objects already, her treats/candy and paper, if she sees one of them she will say want candy/paper accordingly. Will probably start with numbers and colors. So just wanted to introduce us, I'll try being a active member. LOL just typing this the conures are raising cain and she says "Emmy knock it off, oh my god, then Emmy starts flying around the room and Echo says "Get on your cage" just never ceases to amaze me how intelligent these birds can be. She's learned all the works seperately and learned to make sentences like that all the time.<br><br>Post edited by: mjames74, at: 2008/12/31 02:07
