Any chance you'd be willing to share the steps taken to make the bread. I've never made it and I am betting mine would love it.

I’ve had good luck with chop! But, I warmed it up a few times and now I am having a hard time getting them to eat it fresh or defrosted. They simply won’t eat it and choose pellets until the next morning. Today I made some chip using the following ingredients in no particular measures or amounts; I just use my vitamin to wet chop it, drain the water and mix by hand. Broccoli, cauliflower, black beans, kidney beans, collard greens, carrots, (shoot just realized I forgot the corn as I’m writing this), jalapeño, hard boiled egg, rolled oats (to soak up remaining liquid), and tossed in red palm oil. Thoughts on this mix, critiques, anything?! Hers a shot of a helper inspecting to make sure everything is just right.

That’s what I did! I bought the 40x30x75 dome top Macaw Mansion. It is surprisingly well built and way bigger than I pictured. JoJo is loving it, while Maxi is having a bit of a hard time with it. If you read in one of my other threads, Maxi was locked in her cage for around 20 years and never allowed out, in that cage she had one wobbly branch her whole life so getting her to use other perches has been quite the struggle. She will adjust though, she’s pretty strong. Here she is helping with food prep.

I really need to start making my own toys. I usually just buy them from the local parrot store and spend a fortune. Any ideas on where to buy parts and pieces online for toys?

Well, I guess these cages are going to cost an arm and several legs to fill with appropriate toys and perches but once done I think they’ll be sooo happy in there. Any ideas you guys have in regards to toys/decorations would be greatly appreciated.

What do you guys think? To big? Seems kind of out of control.

Good information as well. I think I’m being paranoid about it. How did you introduce them? I feel like it would be the little scuffles that I’d worry about most. Those powerful beaks can cause so much damage human skin if they wanted it just screws me to think what they could do to each other.

Maxi in particular is a tad cage aggressive. I’d hate to see someone lose a toe by getting bitten through the cage. Actually, I missed the photos. Looking at them now. They are not clipped, however maxi cannot fly, she just crashes as she never had the chance to try. She was cage bound for almost 19 years with zero out time during that time of her life.

Thanks for the information Jayd. I appreciate it. It gave quite a bit of insight. However there really is no way for them to come together on their own right now. They have separate cages and when both are out they do attempt to climb up the others cage and that is not good idea. Any thoughts on how I could foster an environment where they can get to each other if they wanted to?

Hello all - I am curious how others who have multiple ways went about physically introducing them to each other. I’ll tart by saying that they are both older rescued female greys. Maxi is about 20 and JoJo 17. We started out having the cages in separate rooms so they could hear each other and have since upgraded to having both cages in the same room. Now I’m looking for the steps to get to the next step, physical introduction. I have a whole section of the house in which neither bird has been, my upstairs master bedroom. So i figured since neither could have claimed that undiscovered territory it may be a good place to place them both on the carpet and see how it goes. Is that naive of me or is there a better way to go about it? When the introduction happens, I’m sure there will be beaking and posturing and I’m curious about how to tell if it is to much for either of them. It feals like a touchy subject, To introduce the two of them. Just want everyone safe and no injuries. Am I over thinking this, if they don’t like each other will they just scuffle a bit. I know it can be dangerous which is why I’d like to know how other have successfully and unsuccessfully done this. Thoughts? Thank you everyone. (Photo is of JoJo.)

We’ve also brought another CAG into our lives who lost her previous owner due to illness. This is JoJo. She is 17 and a total chatterbox sweet heart.

We have progress!!! 20 years locked up in a cage in a room by herself. After 3 months she sure has come a long way

So, I brought this up in my initial post. The only time she will put a foot on me is when she is being “inappropriate” and I am trying to discourage the mating behavior as much as possible but here is a picture of her holding my finger during one of these times she’s shown mating bahavior.

Thank you! I appreciate you saying that. This is my first parrot that I personally have adopted and she is my only. I’ve worked for years with parrots in captivity though, which is where my knowledge comes from. As for photos, I’ll find a few and post them up for you guys! I am guessing that she will just take her time in stepping up, which worries me but we will hopefully get through it sooner rather than later.
