  1. When I come home from the grocery store and Alex and Rocco see the cardboard egg carton the go crazy until i put it in the fridge, knowing that when it's empty i will cut it in half and give the each a half to shred
  2. On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me two African grey's and a Conure in a bare tree.
  3. Some cooking / preparation advice for all of you non-chefs
  4. I put a perch on the outside of Alex's cage and his curiosity finally got the best of him as he climbed from the perch to check out the new jave tree. I'll have to work with Rocco next
  5. I use dropcam which has both a speaker and microphone and a few times of day i check in on Alex and Rocco using my smartphone and talk to them and they talk back
  6. I was going to get some vinyl tile and fit in onto the base without gluing it to make it easier to clean
  7. That's what I did, hung some of their toys on it.
  8. Just got a Java tree for Alex and Rocco. They freaked out when I brought it into the room, I'll just let them get used to it at their own pace.
  9. Thanks for the links, lot's of great ideas. i am always building toys and am looking to build a play-stand next
  10. My boy tried the excuse once that Alex ate his homework, the teacher laughed so hard she actually gave him till the next day to turn it in. Funny thing is he really did.
  11. Here is one on sale for today only. http://www.woot.com/
  12. I made some homemade traps, if you search the internet you can find out how to make them,
  13. My Grey's love wiffle balls and plastic bottle caps, if you know anyone who sews a lot i have then save the plastic spools from the threads and i dry out wine corks. Ping-pong balls are great too, they are to big for them to pickup or bite but they have fun knocking them around the cages and the floor and chasing them
  14. Bought this toy the other day. Thought it might be something new and keep Alex occupied since he loves foraging toys. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007RVWWB0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 After checking it out for about 5 minutes and I guess deciding it was to much work to chew through the bars, he hung upside down, turned the toy over and turned the screw on the bottom that holds the bars in and voila, instant gratification LOL Alex never ceases to amaze me with his skills and creativity.
  15. That is a great toy, only took Alex about 1/2 hour to figure it out and un-screw them all but he loves it when i screw them back together because he knows there are treats inside.
  16. I went to work today after a long expensive weekend, bought firewood, the Dropcam, 2 WiFi controlled light bulbs and a basement door motion sensor and hooked everything up over the weekend using the WINK app. I started with the Aros WiFi controlled AC that i bought last week after my 10 yr old window unit bit the dust. Like you Timbersmom, mine don't say much when I am in the room but talk like crazy when I leave the room. I liked checking in on them and used the microphone to talk back to them.
  17. Hooked up Dropcam last night, works great. If you want to record video it costs $9.99/7 days worth or $29.99/30 days worth. I can check in on them during the day and see what they are doing, I'm still playing with the motion and sound alerts. Here is another option that has free 7 day storage of video does have motion activation but doesn't appear to have sound activation, but looks like it has sound recording, there are also so other drawbacks if you red the reviews http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008QN6V9W/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=TSOYVV7XN6BY&coliid=IZINW8U4A4T1H
  18. Neoow, According to everything I have read you can watch live for free and only pay if you want to save the video, I just bought one last night and will let you know how it works. like you i'm only interested in watching live when I feel like checking in on the boys (Alex/Rocco). Right now you can get them at Home Depot for the same price as Amazon and I figured it would be a lot easier to return there if I don't like it. Home Depot also has a special through 9/3, if you buy one Wink enabled product you get the Wink Hub which costs $49 for $29, buy 2 items and the Hub is only $0.99. The nice thing about the hub is you can then connect other manufactures WiFi controlled devices using the Wink App. i'm just getting into the home automation stuff and WiFi controlled devices, far from an expert but so far my research shows the Wink product/app is the most versatile and cost effective right now and seems to be leading the industry. I did buy the Aros GE WiFi controlled AC and really like being able to turn it on before i leave work when needed.
  19. Check out the DropCam Pro, you don't have to purchase the cloud storage service to use it. It has both motion and sound triggers and 2 way voice and is supposed to be very easy to setup. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F9FCW7K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=TSOYVV7XN6BY&coliid=I26L3Q26LPO2M
  20. I let them have paper towel rolls and also cut the cardboard egg carton each week in 1/2. They love the egg cartons, only last a day. They only get one once a week and its like a treat to them.
  21. Just ordered a 3lb bag from amazon as a supplement for those days i don't have fresh veggies. I usually give them a seed mix once a week on Sundays before i clean the cages. How long will this keep in a sealed bag?

    Parasite

Got the all clear from the vet yesterday, no parasites and what looked like worms were not. Was worth finding out and now i know a lot more about analyzing the fecal matter. What caused me concern was that this was the first time I ever saw any strands in his poop. Thanks everyone for the feedback

    Parasite

Thanks for relieving some of my anxiety, hopefully that's all it is and i'll know in the future. The lab will have results Monday morning. I figured it was better to know for sure. Hopefully it will be just a lesson learned as I go forward into this new world of grey ownership

    Parasite

They were very dark in color, black or green. None of them were moving. I can't say for 100% that they were worms. But it's the first time i saw such things in his poop.
