Hope this works! I had photobucket share my videos with my space. You'll find both entries in my blog. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=82312448

Nikko (age 6) likes to be scratched on her head and neck, and also likes to have her back pet. However, she won't tolerate anyone messing with her wings. The chest and feet are typically off limits too. She's a pretty independent little gal.

I'll put mine on a different site tonight . I have a Myspace account, so I'll try there first. EDIT: Can't find the edited videos (only have the long unedited ones). However, the Photobucket links are working again...for now anyway .<br><br>Post edited by: spookyhurst, at: 2007/10/28 05:41

I'll repost my links and see if they work: http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/spookyhurst/Nikko/?action=view¤t=NikkoKerplunk.flv http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/spookyhurst/Nikko/?action=view¤t=Nikko_Nut.flv EDIT: Weird, the links in this post work for me, but the ones in the Beccy's post don't...yet the URL is the same . EDIT 2: Now the links in this post don't work either. Double weird. I guess I'll have to post them somewhere else.<br><br>Post edited by: spookyhurst, at: 2007/10/28 05:38

Way to go Manzi! He's quite the flyer, Nikko needs to take lessons from him. She has a bit of trouble with her landing skills . The contest was a good idea Beccy, but maybe not too many people have video cameras...or they don't know how to upload them to the web...or their birds don't perform on demand (had a bit of a problem with Nikko in this regard){Communicate-0002011F}. I hope more people enter in a future video contest. I love watching everyone's birds! We need a grey who can outdance Snowball the Cockatoo.

Hey, I know you . I'm glad to see you and Manzi have joined us . I'm a terrible animal hugger too. Whenever I declare that I want to bring dog x home from the park, I say, "I will hug him and love him and squeeze him and call him George."

Interesting. My dog does the equivalent of a bird plucking, he licks and chews on himself until the skin is bruised and broken and oozy. It's like an obsession. My mom just started to spray bitter apple on his fur yesterday in hopes of getting him to stop. I better tell her to stop. Incidentally, we tried putting aloe vera juice and gel on him, but he just licks it off :pinch:.

I'm so sorry for your loss . It's amazing how Obi was able to hide her illness for such a long time.

I was just going to post this! I've never seen such a fantastic dancer before{Feel-good-000200BB}. Absolutely loved the foot action!

Here's a good article that gives lots of information about Pplyoma and the vaccine: http://www.companionparrot.com/Questions%20About%20Polyoma%20Vaccine.htm

As far as I know, powder coating is the only safe way to paint a cage. When I was a kid, I painted a cage for my parakeet. He chewed on the bars all the time. He died when he was six (there was a puddle of blood on the cage floor next to him), and based on all of his symptoms, I believe I killed him with lead poisoning .

I've sunk to a new low...making perch cozies. I bought some natural wood perches to replace the PVC perches on Nikko's playgym. However, just the sight of these new perches completely freaks her out. There was no way she was ever going to sit on them. We discovered that putting some fabric over the wood suddenly made the perches acceptable to Nikko. So I went out and bought some more fabric and velcro (so the cozies can be taken off and washed once Nikko covers them with food) and we're going to make a "cozie" for each perch. The things us bird owners do for our spoiled babies :silly:.

Do you get the Oasis newsletter? I got it the other day and read about the e scrip deal. I signed up with my Safeway card . I didn't sign up with my credit cards though, because I'm a little leary about giving that kind of information to just anyone . If you shop at amazon.com (and a few other online stores), they are also affiliated with the Oasis. Here is a link to the page with all of their affiliates. You need to click on those links in order for the Oasis to get credit for your purchases. http://www.the-oasis.org/support/partners.php

My bird is good with everyone, although she does favor some more than others. This might be a TAG thing, or it might be because I put her in her travel cage and take her out shopping, to the park, etc. She was 4 when I adopted her, so I don't think it's too late to start taking your birdie out and about. I've heard that if you have the least favored person in the household take the bird out, the bird will suddenly become more friendly with them (since they're the only familiar face in a strange place). You could try having unfavored people give your bird his favorite treats to try to win him over.

I use George's Aloe Vera Juice. I also have the gel, which is good for lessening the pain of a bad bite . I bought in online, but I've seen it at Sprouts. It does make the feathers nice and soft . Nikko is just like Talon, she tries to bathe in her little water dish after her shower.

Nikko has learned the "wup wup wup" sound that quails make. We put seed in the backyard in the morning, and get a ton of these guys. One family alone has a good 15 birds in it. Today I was late putting the seed out, and when I went to the patio door, there were several quail looking in the window, and many more standing in the yard patiently waiting for their handout. Unfortunately, Fatback McPidgeon was waiting too. My mom says he's not welcome because he tells too many of his friends about our "restaurant" and start overrunning the place.

An interview with Irene Pepperberg after Alex's death:

Nikko starts off the day with warm oatmeal. Aren't are babies spoiled rotten?

I uploaded another video. I had to edit out the parts where Nikko was just wandering around the counter :side:. http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/spookyhurst/Nikko/?action=view¤t=NikkoKerplunk.flv

Nikko loves a good root around in the nares . She sticks a claw in there and really goes at it. I've tried to get a picture, but haven't been successful. It's quite a sight !

Does the raven have a name? Perhaps Edgar?
-
That was a toughie, but in the end, I was swayed by cuteness. I voted for the adorable little budgies .
-
Forgot to say, Nikko loves car rides. When she sees me get out her travel cage, she stretches, lets out a "peep," and puts her foot out so she can be picked up.
-
Can your grey see out the window? If not, maybe that's why he gets car sick. Also, I've read that if you feed your bird a little ginger root before a car ride, it will help settle their stomach...er...crop :silly:. This site ( http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww14e.htm ) says: GINGER—Called the "wonder drug", the ginger root is actually a rhizome which is similar to several foods known to be consumed in the wild by parrots. It has been used for two thousand years by the Chinese to treat nausea and upset stomach. It is no coincidence that the Japanese serve fresh ginger slices with sushi as insurance against the parasites sometimes found in raw fish. Ginger is a wonderful remedy to use with baby parrots that go through brief periods of colic or throwing up their formula. I mix their formula in ginger tea instead of water and the problem is solved immediately. You can make the tea by steeping two or three slices of fresh ginger root in the water for ten or fifteen minutes. If your parrot must travel and is prone to motion sickness, ginger to the rescue! Add fresh ginger to the food and drinking water several hours before the trip and put a few slices in the carrier. Parrots seem to have an innate sense of what they need and will munch on the ginger to "quell their queasiness" during the trip.

The terrible twos, I'm glad I missed out on them. I'm having enough trouble with the satanic sixes . I know someone who keeps her birds out of rooms they aren't supposed to go in by putting a vacuum cleaner in the doorway :cheer:. Even though you're against clipping, if Talon gets a little full of herself, you could always do a light clip (just a couple feathers to slow her down a bit) until she settles down, and then let them grow out again. I've always kept Nikko clipped because of our ceiling fans, but she currently has full flight. I want to clip just a couple feathers so that she can't get much lift, but so she can still get to her destination (usually the window sill).
