Hello Ian and welcome to the family, glad you could join us even though you do not have a grey at the moment but hopefully in the near future your dream can become a reality. You do beautiful work in these drawings, you have real talent, they are so lifelike it is almost like looking at an actual photograph of them. What other birds do you do and do you only do birds or does your interest go into other subjects? Yes I am very interested in what you do and would like to see more of your work. Well I think your goal of world domination is attainable with the talent you have shown in these drawings of the two Cags and they are a wonderful depiction of how they actually look. I assume you work from actual photos of the subjects but you do capture them beautifully in your drawings. Well this is enough foaming at the mouth for me but I want to thanks you so much for sharing these with us and I am sure there are many here who would be interested in your work, I know I am.

Nothing like a picture of a new baby to bring out the maternal instincts in us, now Tari wants one,

Can an older Grey learn more words?

I hope it all goes well as planned, Denise, and Sammie gets settled in nicely in his new home. I look forward to hearing some updates on how that goes so don't keep us in suspense for too long!!!!! -
Can an older Grey learn more words?

I agree bird toys are very expensive and a lot of them can be made for very little if you just know where to get the supplies you need. I don't think you should stare directly into their eyes but they are not quite like dogs and such that take that as intimidation, in fact if you do look them in the eyes blink and see if they will blink back at ya. I can read your excitement and you won't want to leave the house now that you will have him there but enjoy him and be sure to share some pictures. -
If you get this grey youwill need to get him on a more balance diet, less seeds and more veggies, some fruit, grains, legumes and maybe some pellets. You don't want to be feeding him sweets and such. Read over the threads in the bird food room for lots of feeding suggestions. Let us know what you are going to do about getting this grey.

Congrats on deciding to take Sammy and I know you will provide him with an excellent home because you sound committed to this adoption, how wonderful for Sammy, he does not know how lucky he is. You will not sleep much tonight I think, it will be kind of like Christmas morning. I look forward to hearing the details of his homecoming and seeing some pictures of him. Yes please do take part in any aspect of this forum, we encourage participation, you will learn so much and you can share what you know with the rest of us. -
Thanks for the support Penny, it has been really appreciated by me and I will need it more than ever as I get closer to that goal. I have already had people look at me and say "have you lost weight", and I say "yes I have and thanks for noticing", it is a very good feeling. :P

Yes he needs to be where the rest of the family is and in the center of it all, they like to be with their flock so to speak. I know if I was in your shoes I would go for him in a second and hubby would just have to go along whether or not he wants to:laugh: but you do what your heart tells you to do. -

Hello Denise and welcome to the family, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new to you grey. Oh yes I believe they can continue to learn new words no matter how old they are especially if they already talk and coming to live with new owners he will be exposed to new words and phrases. I am amazed that he was so accepting of new people and he may have sensed that you are bird lovers, I think a lot of animals have a sense about that. He sounds like he is an offer you can't refuse if you know what you are getting into, greys do need a certain amount of personal attention and out of cage time. From what you have told us he sounds to be well adjusted and healthy and I hope if you do get him the move to a new home does not stress him out. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and don't hesitate to ask questions if you have any, we do our best to get some answers and we will help you in any way we can. If you take some pictures please consider sharing some with us we would love to see him. -
Please do let us know what you find out, we want to know for we care and yes it could help someone else with a similar problem. Thats ok for now, I realize you are busy but please do come back and introduce yourself when you get the chance.

Yeah if all else fails bribery will work wonders!!!

If he hasn't seen an avian vet in a while that is the first thing for you to do to rule out any physical reasons for the plucking. If he gets a clean bill of health then it is behavioral or has something to do with his environment. Greys can pluck for various reasons but get the physical reasons out of the way first. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and this grey.
-
You need to get this grey to an avian vet ASAP, he could very well be a she and is egg bound but in any case don't delay, its life depends on it.

Dayo has trained you well Dan:laugh:

You got that right Tracy and they do it all the time!!

Wow Laurie that says a lot about you that you are continuing with quitting in the face of all the obvious obstacles that should and could cause you to say the hell with it and pick up that cig, you are a strong woman and I am very proud of you. We are here for you any time you need us, thats what friends are for and you will get over this and it will get easier to deal with but in the meantime holler if you need us. You have a great weekend too, stay busy!!!
-
Well Laurie I was thrilled but I had expected the loss to have been a little more but it will come off it will just take me a little longer to do so. And like you I am not on a diet, they don't work, I am on a lifestyle behavior modification and I am going to have to go out in the spring and get me some new clothes, I won't be able to wear my last season's stuff, too loose. I have lost a total of 18 lbs and 16 inches off me since the first week of October 2007 since starting at Curves, but I have lost a total of at least 45 lbs from the high that I weighed earlier in 2007.

They do love tearing up paper, why don't you give him some junk mail to tear up and destroy, it will keep him busy for a while. Do be careful of what you say around them, they do pick up new words easily and they can tell by the tone of the voice that certain words are pronounced more excitedly and that includes cuss words. You definitely don't want to hear them repeated back to you.

I agree that we do have an amazing bunch of people here as members of this forum and there is usually someone on at all times that has an answer to questions as they are posted and I am proud to be a part of this great site.
-
Well he certainly enjoyed that didn't he, congrats on getting him to take the bait and bathe in the pan of water. Thanks Dan for sharing that with us!!!

Awww Tracy this is wonderful to read and how appropriate it is for this forum and its members, a copy of it should go to each new bird owner, thanks so much for sharing it with us, karma for you woman!!!
