Lisa that is a cute pic of China and she does get along with the big guys doesn't she, how wonderful is that. I'd like to think she is being a diva wouldn't you!! Thanks for sharing that with us and you did good on adding a pic to the post.
Thanks Dave for posting this, I already knew about this since I am an AARP subscriber myself, I am over the age of 55, but those scammers are out there in full force to extract as much from the people that they possibly can.
Why don't you come visiting more often, we miss ya Dave, your knowledge, wisdom, sarcasm and wit are missing from the forum lately.
He/she is a beauty, Knight05, and thanks for sharing these pics with us, has some red factor going on there on the legs too, did you notice that?:cheer:
Don't worry about the double post, you can't delete it but admin will.
Hello Lisa and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and China.
So from what you wrote I assume this Timneh picked you and not vice versa, it happens like that sometimes and she seems like a doll from what you describe. She does not talk but is a master of mimicry, I can believe that. Mine, a Cag, is a master as well of all kinds of household sounds and human sounds as well but she also talks. One of her favorite words to say is shut up that she tells my sun conure when she screams:laugh:
That is so sweet that you have a cuddler because most aren't at least after they grow up so count yourself lucky.
Take a little time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have. We will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can.
If you have some pictures of China you would like to share with us we would love to see her and we have an other birds room where you could share one of Chaco if you like.
I too am an avid fan of Stephen King, but I haven't read many books lately so the last few of his I haven't read, just don't read like I used to, but I am intrigued by these latest ones and I may have to break down and get my hands on them and have a go at them.
I love that birdy smell too, but I think some of the others were referring to an unpleasant birdy smell of dirty bird, no one likes a dirty bird, but a natural smell of a bird is nice.
Sounds like you have some good quality time with Athena and that is what counts, we each have our own times and ways with our greys that we show our affection and love for one another, thanks for sharing yours with us.
Now after your last post I don't think it is a medical issue, she just doesn't want to soil her cage, some birds are like that, they don't want to poop in their cage but will hold it and go as soon as they get out of their cage and that is when she is on you. Some of the other members here have greys that won't poop in their cage but hold it for when they get out.
You can ask your vet but I bet this is the case with your grey, she is pooping all she can to get it out before she gets put back in her cage.
They call it hoarding when someone keeps so many animals and can't care for them, they think they are saving them but they aren't. And there is a lot of this going on out there in the world but this has got to be one of the worst cases.
I agree that little sun conure had quite a job feeding and grooming that cockatoo but what a heart warming story that little tidbit was to hear.
I second Tracy's advice, I wouldn't give them cheese every day either, from all sources I have read and heard it is not to be given on a daily basis.
I tried giving Josey a chicken bone and she promptly threw it down but I will try again.
Kristine, they all have dandruff, that is just that dust and dander that is typical of the african grey, it sounds like you are doing all that is necessary to keep her in good shape so don't worry about it, ok:laugh:
Congrats Knight on the arrival of your baby grey and yes he/she needs a little time to settle in after the flight getting to you, but it sounds like it is going well so far. The beak grinding is a sign of contentment and they usually do it before going to sleep.
I look forward to seeing some photos of your new baby when you get the chance.
I had heard about this on the internet and the newspaper, it is appalling to say the least, but I am not surprised at the outpouring of support for these animals, thanks Spooky for sharing this with us.
In any case Kasia keep us informed as we are curious to know what this is and how it can be prevented not only for your bird's sake but for all of our bird's lives.
If you feel like you have to get it off then by all means bathe him using warm water but it won't come off easy and it will come off eventually if you just let it come off naturally. It is not causing him any harm and only looks bad but you might cause him more pain just trying to get it off of him when it will come off soon anyway.
I don't know whether I have any Irish blood in me but I do celebrate the day with wearing of the green and cooking a corned beef dinner, so Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you.:cheer:
I wouldn't worry with it too much right now, it will come off on its own in good time after he gets off the baby food. But I know what you are talking about, Josey had the same problem but it resolved itself in due time.
Thanks Laurie for the pep talk, I needed that, its funny how a gain of one pound can make you feel so horrible but then this cold is not helping either.
I am gonna do better as soon as this nasty cold has abandoned my body but right now I feel like crap.
Josey too, Laurie, she would rather tear up some paper or magazines than watch TV.
And Josey does not go to bed until around 10pm, she is still going strong at 7pm, no bed for her at that hour.
