Swings - To roll or not to roll?
TheGreyMiester replied to TheGreyMiester's topic in The GREY Lounge
You are talking one like this: And NOT one of these: Right? -
Do any of you have a swing for your grey? If so, does the perch part roll or is it fixed? Does your bird use it? What kind do you recommend? Sorry for the string of questions...

I forgot to tell you the truth. I think it's written down on my recipt. I will check today after work. If I cant find the date, I'll just ak my breeder again
-
You are sooooo lucky! I have to wait 5 more long weeks and it could even be longer if Ollie is not eating on his own by then. Ugh! the wait!
-
Yes he has those dark innocent baby eyes.
-
I really don't think it will be a year, a few months should be all it takes. You just have to be consistant and work at it a little at a time.
-
If hes molting, that might explain at least some of the crankyness.

awesome pics! he looks fantastic! all his feathers are in great shape and helthy looking. I had a picture in my head that he looked a little rough from over preening or something. I'm sure you will earn his tust. ever use youtube? its a free video hosting service. I would love to see a youtube video of him. for more information go to www.youtube.com

I'm excited for you! I still have about six more weeks before I can bring my TAG home. The wait is killing me. I dont know what to do with my self some times!

It sounds like you know a lot already. I think you have the right idea and you should do well. I really don't have much to offer except smother with love and ignore bad behaviors and make a big deal out good behaviours. Positive reinforcement on the good and ignore the bad. Please keep us updated, this is quite a story.<br><br>Post edited by: TheGreyMiester, at: 2007/04/10 16:04

In one of my Bird Talk magazines there was an article of this editor who won a CAG at some kind of drawing. She said this bird had a very grouchy additue but after three months the bird came around to the point of lying on its back in her hands. With greys it taks a very long time in some cases before they begin to come around. Be consistant and don't show your frustration. you have to play the psychology game.<br><br>Post edited by: TheGreyMiester, at: 2007/04/10 15:44

Thanks for the comment Heather! I will do something special for you. I will give you my email address later. I hear you FairY, infact some of my 1000's of designs are very simple. I do have a tendency to over do it however cause I just keep adding more and more detail. This design I was trying to create depth using the text and I did not want any bare spots. I spent all of 10 minutes on it so I could tweek it quite a bit.

Nail Clipping and Keeping nails trimmed??
TheGreyMiester replied to Mcgyver's topic in The GREY Lounge
Oliver had razor sharp nails but since my breeder put him on a concreat perch, it has not been a problem. Perhaps the size of the perch maks a difference. The tips of the nials shuld be digging in to the abrasive material, right? -
Since I am into so many things, I have a broad interest, and web graphics is one of my many hobbies. I took the three images of my baby Oliver and made a kind of "Magazine ad". This is just for fun. Comments welcome. For full size image, click this link: http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/6893/oliveraddfk0.jpg<br><br>Post edited by: TheGreyMiester, at: 2007/04/10 01:15

My breeder said they will go through a "Terrible Two" stage and she also said they ARE testing you. I think it's important not to fall prey to the game. If he yells, don't respond.

TheGreyMiester replied to TheGreyMiester's topic in The GREY Lounge
You can also take other photos by right clicking on the image and go to properties and then copy and paste the link of the photo, then paste that link in the measage body, highlight the link in the measge body and click the "Img" button <br><br>Post edited by: TheGreyMiester, at: 2007/04/09 23:46 -
Who's the better talker - TAGs/CAGs?
TheGreyMiester replied to TheGreyMiester's topic in The GREY Lounge
I like that name. To post a picture simply hit "reply" and you should see a "Img" button as one of the compose tools, when you click on it, you add tags to the link that will enable the forums to display the image. I recommend using www.imageshack.us to upload pictures--it's a free service. Once you upload the photo(s) to imageshack, you can copy the link provided and paste that link in the popup window's text box. So here’s the steps needed: 1.) create an account with imageshack - www.imageshack.us 2.) upload photos to imageshack - keep the webpage open 3.) open a new browser window by clicking on the Internet Explorer icon and come to the grey forums and start a new topic. (You should have two browsers open now, one for the forums and another for imageshack) 4.) click the "Img" button from one of the format tools above the compose text box. 5.) activete the image shack webpage by clicking on it's window and copy the "Direct" link provided, for the image of choice. 6.) activate the grey forums by clicking on its window, and paste the newly copied link in the message body and then highlight only the image link, then click the "Img" button. If this does not work, then try only pasting the link and see what happens. Your done! If you have problems let me know.<br><br>Post edited by: TheGreyMiester, at: 2007/04/09 23:49 -
Who's the better talker - TAGs/CAGs?

Monique, When do you get to bring your TAG home? Did you decide on a name yet? Are you able to visit you bird while he/she is being weaned? -
Who's the better talker - TAGs/CAGs?
TheGreyMiester replied to TheGreyMiester's topic in The GREY Lounge
Talking ability is not the only important reason I want a grey. I like the looks and personaty of the grey species. If it can say english words, it's an added bonus. I was just curious about the differences between the TAG and CAG. Since I have read the only differences between the two were size, temperment, and color, I wanted to clear up the suggestion that TAGs were not as good as CAGs when it comes to talking ability. I do belive however that each bird is an individual and the skills from one bird to another can very a great deal. Much like us humans. -
I watch basically 3 shows: Smallville, Supernatural, and American Idol, and sometimes House.... Alright, make that 4 shows.
-
My breeder said that Timnehs are not quite as good a talker as the CAGs are. Of all the stuff I have read, I have not read this to be true. I want to know what some of you think about this.<br><br>Post edited by: TheGreyMiester, at: 2007/04/09 03:18

Thanks! He just finished growing in his new feathers so he's still a tad rough around the neck. I have started to grow attached to him. I am starting to miss him when I leave my breeders house, where as before, I did not feel this way. The weekly sessions are working for me at least, but not so sure about Oliver yet  I wanted to take more pictures but felt 4 was enough for the first time. He did not seem to mind, but when I shoed him the camera he was very cautious of it.

There are a number of good books out there but the one I got was fantastic for beginners. http://www.amazon.com/Owners-Guide-African-Grey-Parrots/dp/0793828554/ref=sr_1_20/103-5676864-7653448?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1176002799&sr=8-20 Greys can take as long as 1 to 2 years before they talk and there is that chance they may never say a word of English--most greys do talk however. I think its important for both you and the bird to do some research. The link I provided will just about answer most of your questions and will be a great tool to help you with your decision.
