  1. thanks good to know. I really appreciate it.
  2. Thanks for the responses. Here are the chain links I bought. I put a deck of cards next to it to show size comparison.
  3. hello, I am preparing for when I get my grey. I purchased a plastic chain from home depot, but now im wondering if they are dangerous. can the birds get their talons twisted up in chains? thanks for any advice
  4. thanks. yes I'm glad I didn't proceed with building that cage. I built one for a bearded dragon lizard once and everyone loved it, so I figured I would do it again for my new parrot... but I recall it being a lot of work to build that cage.. so I'll stick with online stores. lol
  5. wow very nice cage. and great price. Does the clear glass give your parrot any issues? does he see his reflection and get stressed, or does he not see the glass and keep bumping into it?
  6. Thanks, do you happen to recall the website that you got a custom made cage from? unless it was over $800. If it's too expensive, I'll probably need to get the one I found for about $459 for now, and then upgrade in a couple of years.
  7. Thanks, and what a nice welcome. This is obviously a great forum with great people. @luvparrots - I'm interested in the congo grey. I like the red color of the tail and the shade of grey that he is. But most probably I'm just leaning towards the Congo because when I was first learning about the grey parrots, that was the one I always found information on, so I am biased. I'm sure they are both equally fantastic birds. I'm finding out that searching for a cage is just as hard as searching for a Parrot. lol. After so many nights spent on the internet and comparing cages/sites/prices I think I found the cage that I want. 36"W x 26"D x 68"H <-- the one I want. Initially I planned on building a really nice red oak cage with mesh sides and front. 5 feet tall, 4 feet long and 2 feet depth, but after the forums, I found that red oak is bad... wood in general is bad (because they can chew on it... galvanized zing mesh from home depot is bad... cleaning up the mess off of wood is insanely difficult... etc etc.. lol. soooooo, I will be getting a normal bird cage with seed catcher, play top area and all. lol. thank god for forums. lol
  8. Thanks you two for your advice. I checked out that link to the cage reviews.. whew it seems tough.. looks like most cages have some flaws (lead in the paint, rust issues, etc), I didn't even see the cage that im looking at in there. Im looking at one from BirdCagesForLess dot come, but when I look at their site, it never tells me what name brand the cage is? That may be a scary thing huh? possibly it is a cheaply made replica of a nicer cage? and therefore more potential for rust, lead, sharp edges? whew it is kind of stressful searching for a cage. LOL here is the one I found (seemed to be OK until I realized there is no name brand for the cage) http://birdcages4less.com/page/B/PROD/African-Grey-Bird-Cages/PA5704
  9. Thank you all for the welcome Really appreciate it Have a great weekend. Shane
  10. hello, just joined today but have been reading the threads for about a week now. love the site and all of the advice and knowledge found here. im in the process of adopting a baby grey. im very excited. well im off to read more threads!
  11. hello, im new here but hopefully on my way to adopting a baby grey. i saw on the sites home page (under "home hazards") that it says to avoid cages that are powder coated. but every cage ive seen is powder coated and ive even read a bunch of posts throughout the internet and on this forum that recommends powder coating. so im just confused as to what to look for. can anyone verify if it is ok or not to get a cage that is powder coated? im wanting to buy a cage that says it is wrought iron that is powder coated. thanks for any advice
