@mistyparrot - > I can already tell it will be hard to work... lol. I am going to move the cage next to my desk.. I'll leave the door open of course.. Shes out from when I wake up until I go to bed.. @parrotlady -> thanks, I always joke around and tell people that my wife is scarlett Johansson, so when I saw that these parrots tails were red, it fit perfectly. lol @MKParrot -> thanks. Initially I didn't realize I was "in" the video laughing as much.. it was just that she was on a roll. lol. and I couldn't help it.. @kins2321 -> that is incredible that they Skype together! you should video that! lol would be great to see that. lol @chezron -> I have a travel cage, so yeah that is a good idea.. I'm going to wait another week though. She is happy with me, but I don't want to mess anything up yet.. I touched her foot with my thumb today and I sware she got mad... lol. I think she was debating if she should bite me or not. lol but she didn't. -
Hi thanks for all of the videos, I subscribed to the channels. thank you. these parrots are amazing. I know my video was kind of boring, but I recorded it initially to share with my sister, my mother, nephew, etc. so yeah it's not super exciting, but it is to me. lol. I think I spoiled her though... My work desk is set up in my living room and she just has to be right next to my desk or she just goes on and on until I move the play area next to my desk. lol. @katana600 -> that is pretty funny. it happened to me but in reverse... I was watching the youtube videos and scarlett started replying to the parrots from the videos... it's almost midnight and I got her started up. LOL thank you everyone for the replies, compliments, comments, and videos! have a great weekend

Thank you two. I will work on holding a treat and getting her to fly to me. I've only had her since Monday night and she lets me pet her head (yesterday was the first time she lowered her head to me so I could pet her). I think I might go buy a fake tree or something and put in my house for her to land on.. until she figures all of this out. Yes the owner said she was trimmed awhile ago, but she said the wings were almost completely back... and I wont be trimming them. stressful because im nervous about letting her out... and she is already blowing me kisses and said "come out". LOL I have to go to walmart real quick and see if they have a wreath or fake tree. thanks again.. I need to practice her flying to my arm (short distance) for the treat. great idea

I hope you get her, I like the name too... poor Samson...

Recently added a new family member this week (a 1 year old Congo grey [scarlett]), and she actually wasn't as nervous as I thought she would be. I can pick her up and I even gave her a shower already... she eats from my hand, etc etc... HOWEVER, She will not land on my hand when flying... Twice she flew into the blinds and just holds on (which is ok if she is not getting hurt).... but today I was in kitchen and I think she wanted to come to where I was at... all of a sudden I heard her flying and she circled the area once and I put my hand out so she could land, and she didn't.. but this time she flew towards a window above the front door... and she didn't catch the blinds.. she fell to the ground which was tiles.. I was so sad.. it was a long drop.. I ran over to her and she immediately walked to me and got onto my hand... she looked sad... she kept putting her foot (talon?) into her mouth like she was trying to scratch something out... for about 3 minutes... She stopped and things seem to be back to normal... but the window is about 10/11 feet from the ground. it's higher than normal because the ceiling over the door is about 15 feet high. Now I'm scared to let her out of the cage. I work from home and she was out of the cage all day and evening with me. I built a play area and set it right next to my desk. She seemed to love it. but when she flies, she wont land on the play area perch, and wont land on me.... what the heck can I do? I don't want to clip her wings, but I definitely do not want to see her fall from that height again.. (yes I will put a big blanket there to break the fall, but she can still break a wing or leg etc, or even her beak flying into the wall etc...

Hey all. Thanks. That's pretty funny that a lot of them do the low battery beep. I named her Scarlett - I figured it fit nicely because of the red tail and of how much I like Scarlett Johansson. lololol -

Hi All! Thanks for all the posts! We got our beautiful 1 year old grey! The grey is soo beautiful. She ate from my hand immediately when we got home. I was shocked. She would not let me pick her up though (or step up to my hand). She barked like a dog and she does lots of various whistles. lol. I'm guessing the previous owners had a dead battery in their smoke detector because she keeps doing that dead battery beep warning sound every now and then. LOL Today I opened the cage door and kept calling her, and she eventually flew out of the cage. She wouldn't land on me, and she flew and tried to cling onto a wall picture.. that didn't work out so good, but she didn't get hurt.. then I played with her on the floor for about 2 hours... it was as if she was a little baby.. I played with some of her toys (and shredded paper together lol), I hand fed her grapes, and red peppers. she loved it. she still wouldn't step up to my hand so I didn't know how the heck I would get her back to the cage so I can go to bed! lol.. but eventually she put a cute look on her face and walked towards my lap and I put my hand down and she stepped up onto my fingers. it was cute... I put her in the cage and praised her and hand fed her a banana which she seemed to just enjoy destroying and tossing pieces everywhere. lol. OK I wrote a lot.. sorry.. Im just overly excited. lol I'll post the pics I took in 2 minutes. (thanks again for being a great bunch of people). sincerely. -
Hello, I recently joined this forum, and so I figured I could express my excitement here. lol. where else? Anyway, I'm off to Phila PA to pick up my 1 year old Grey! It's a 3 hour ride but well worth it. The family there have a beautiful female grey that they take care of very well. she voluntarily goes into the shower and lifts her wings to wash. lol. She speaks a few words already, she is always allowed out of her cage, and is fed a well diet. the family is sad to see her go, but their daughter has asthma and is severely allergic to the parrot. They have tried medicine and shots but it is no good. I know the family is sincere that they want a good home for their baby grey, and I definitely can provide that. I work from home (internet business) and have lots of free time and love and care to give. My son is 15 and already at the stage where he thinks he's too cool to hang with his dad. lol. So I'm pretty much available for a new child in the house! lol I can't wait. The family is giving me a cage, a travel cage, and all of the toys, etc... I'm really excited. I'm writing a lot.. I know. anyway.. I'll post pics after I get back and settle down.. enjoy the evening.. Shane

What's your opinion on a possible new adoption of a 6 year old CAG
shane replied to shane's topic in The GREY Lounge
Thanks Timbersmom. I found one that is 1 year old and very playful, so I wrote the person. 3 hour drive but If the parrot is still available, I'm going to go this week! lol. If not available, I will visit Queens NY and see her parrots. -

Very true.. Honestly, I think I rushed and posted before I really thought about it. LOL I was so excited, but speaking to the lady on the phone made me feel somewhat hesitant. then add the fact that the bird was not banded.. and then add Queens NY to the mix. LOL I just didn't want to get ripped off in any way... but yes you are right.. only I can answer that.. I got so excited. lol. -
Hi, I initially wanted a baby CAG... but I missed the opportunity. I found a lady that has 8+ CAGS - she states that she had tried to run a pet shop, and a thrift store simultaneously and it was too difficult. She has one that is 6 years old. a female. that she said was the friendliest. The picture didn't show any bands... She is from Queens NY. about 2 hours away from me. do you think there is any risk in getting a bird from her.. a 6 year old bird? is that too old to build a bond with? She wants $1000 for any bird. that seemed high since the baby I was going to get was also $1100. any thoughts? I'm excited and nervous at the same time. lol.

Thank you to all of your posts. extremely informative. I will not be clipping the wings. I will have to research "training a grey to fly"... because I didn't even know that was an option. But I would love to do so. Also, the only reason I preferred a baby was so that I could have the opportunity for it to bond with me... and also because the breeders usually have them checked for the various diseases before they go to the new parents. But I will check into rescuing one also. thank you. @Inara, what is your blogs address? so I can take a look

I appreciate the response. I only started to question it because I figured since they were not out in the wild to be taught by a mother how to fly, that possibly they may be more accident prone, but after reading your post, of course that makes a lot of sense... common sense. So Im happy with that because I did not want to clip wings. My home has 12 foot ceiling. I thought they may appreciate that. thanks for your response very appreciated

I haven't adopted my baby grey yet. I am set back as I missed an opportunity to adopt by 4 hours. So I'm searching again.. that stinks.. but in any case... I have come across a breeder in NY that states that she clips all baby wings unless requested not to. Initially I felt that I would rather not clip the wings as it seems inhumane, and unnatural, but on her website she stated a lot of reasoning behind why she does it. Such as: flying into filled sink or bath and drowning... flying into a fan... flying onto the hot stove... flying into walls and breaking necks.... Personally I will never have to worry about open windows, filled sinks or bathtubs, or even fans because I would never let that happen. I'm also a very overprotective parent by nature as I raised my son on my own and (15 now) I was always over-doing the safety measures... so everyone else would tell me.. lol. but flying into walls... that one I cannot prevent. What do you all experienced grey parents think about this subject?
