That one seems really over priced compared to the swanson which is 16 oz, organic and 8.50$ .. the Aviglo is 13$ for 8 ounces
-
I am not talking about vitamin a, I just thought I read in the first post that It should be the fruit and the swanson doesn't say that but the other one did. The one at amazon is cheap but it's not organic either, isn't that bad? Would the swanson be the second best choice for the price, 8$ Organic 16 ounces.. I am just making sure it's the fruit which i am unsure because of what I read in the first post.

Would this http://www.swansonvitamins.com/alaffia-authentic-west-african-red-palm-oil-5-oz-jar Ingredients: Fair Trade hand pressed red palm fruit oil. Be better than this one? http://www.swansonvitamins.com/swanson-organic-virgin-red-palm-oil-certified-organic-16-fl-oz-473-ml-liquid Ingredients: 100% certified organic virgin palm oil (red). I would think the second is better but it doesn't say fruit.

Does anyone know much how VIT A is contained in red palm oil? I can't find it on any nutritional fact table. Would a tea spoon of it a day be considered too much?

She also loves corns and beans; but hates carrots and dislikes peas which I forgot to add. I don't care for beans though as much, I want her to eat more veggies.. the problem is that I want her to eat dark green veggies more :{

So basically my Grey dislikes Kale / Spinach / Lettuce ... the vegetables that I find she likes and will eat are: Broccoli / Bell Peppers Do you guys have any recommendation for veggies similar to these that she will be more likely to eat and is nutritious ?

I updated the recipe I increased Sesame seeds because my parrot still really obsessed over seeds and i'm trying to slowly break her out of it but the increase in sesame seeds results in her eating more of the pellets to wasting. 10 teaspoon Pellets (Totally Organic Pellet) 3 teaspoon Red Palm Oil 1 teaspoon Coconut Oil 1 teaspoon Tumeric 1/2 teaspoon Holy Basil 1/2 teaspoon Oregano 1/4 Cayenne Pepper 1/4 teaspoon Spirulina 6 teaspoon Sesame Seed 4 teaspoon Flaxseed powder 4 teaspoon Chia seed -

I do however this pellet mix is just his morning meal. I was thinking about the Alfalfa powder however I believe it is one of the main ingredients of the Totally organic pellets. "Rice, barley, sunflower seed hulled, alfalfa leaf, sesame seeds unhulled, amaranth whole, quinoa whole, buckwheat hulled, millet hulled, dandelion leaf powder, carrot powder, spinach leaf powder, purple dulse, rose hips powder, rose hips crushed, orange peel powder, lemon peel powder, rosemary whole leaf, cayenne ground, crushed red chili peppers, wheat grass powder, barley grass powder." -

If you have any change recommendations or additions to the recipe i created please let me know! 10 teaspoon Pellets (Totally Organic Pellet) 3 teaspoon Red Palm Oil 1 teaspoon Coconut Oil 1 teaspoon Tumeric 1/2 teaspoon Holy Basil 1/2 teaspoon Oregano 1/4 Cayenne Pepper 1/4 teaspoon Spirulina 6 teaspoon Sesame Seed 4 teaspoon Flaxseed powder 4 teaspoon Chia seed I grind the pellets in a grinder first, then i add all the rest.. I then add water and mix it till it is at a texture that I can roll them in my hands and create balls. I give this to my grey as her morning meal. This batch usually lasts up to 5 days at most -
Hello, ever since I adopted my African Grey I have noticed that she has callous, it has at least been there for the couple months I had her; here is a recent picture of today. When I asked the vet about this, he simply said it was calluses and didn't tell me anything else. I do have a Safety pumice perch and a cement perch for her however she doesn't stand on these for long. She is usually on dragon wood and manzanita wood. Does her feet look ok? I have heard of something called bumble feet I think and it sounds very dangerous so I am afraid this can get worse .. If anything i'd like a natural remedy for this.. if possible. Thank you for your time!

I have heard before that flax seeds should be grinded to eat because they could possibly choke / swallow it or something of that sort .. ? (please clarify) Is this true, it's hard to believe because they crack the smallest of things.. my grey literally tosses the shell of brown rice and eats whatever is inside lol. I didn't even know brown rice had a shell till I saw all the leftover rice in the bowl after he devours everything. So could anyone tell me a 100% accurate answer on if there is a cause for worry of eating flax seeds whole? and if possible if anyone can also tell me if it is safe for them to eat Hemp seeds that still have their shells? Thank you everyone for your time ! :}

She gets to be outside of her cage / cage door open for more than 70% of her day, I also take her around the house everyday too. As far as diet. I give her Sesame seeds mainly for the calcium, so calcium is check.. if anything she might be having too much calcium. I give her Quinoa for the Protein.. so protein is check. I add Flaxseed powder and chia seeds with her Pellet/sesameseed mix to make them into balls (the flaxseed powder is an egg replacement and so is chia seeds) so fats is finally check. I used to give her Coconut oil.. but I am afraid now that I might be giving her too much fats, isn't high fats bad ? she is getting fats through.. Sesame Seeds, Flax Seeds, Chia Seeds, Nutriberri You say majority of their diet is fats (palm oil).. if that is the case; should I feel fine giving her a high fat content diet? -

Hello, recently I've noticed that my parrot is losing one of his huge feathers once in a while... Like a flight feather (not the main ones that are black) and one of the Red tail feathers, and other random medium size feathers. It's not everyday but seems to happen every few days.. I believe he is pulling them out himself because I seen him do it only once, but it was as if he was just preening himself (I witnessed this while I was walking around with him having fun in the house) However; NONE of these feathers have any trace of blood. Is their a cause for worry? I have gone to the vet before and they thought nothing of the feathers. His diet consists of: First Meal: Totally Organic Pellets/ Sesame seed mix in the morning. (around 4 teaspoons of seeds and 4 teaspoons pellets) Second Meal: Brown rice or Quinoa and Bell peppers or Broccoli or Romane Lettuce Throughout the day for treats: Approx 1 or 2 Veggie Nutriberri (just an example)

I'm having a serious problem controlling my congo greys behavior in desiring to always wanting to go into the kitchen. How can I teach him that he is not allowed there? or only allowed to be there with me? he will scream and have his wings up dying to go there for the at least the first 5 hours in the morning starting at 6 am. If he doesn't get to go there he will scream his lungs out. The kitchen has no door so I can't shut access ... also there is poison all around the kitchen floor in the corners and he loves to be on the floor walking around the kitchen.. it is really dangerous for him.

Hello, I adopted a 8 Year old congo grey recently and I am wondering if there is something that happened to his beak.. Picture is attached, it basically has this white line that you can see in the picture .. seems like it fell of or something at some point and grew back.. ? Another side question: Is overpreening bad? He has a lot of feathers missing underneath his wings, around his neck and stomach that you can't see in this picture. He seems to preen those areas a lot. Is it possible it could be infected.

I removed it but it wont budge... Because the screws are so long and stick out of the cage, it wasn't possible Can you tell me if bowl/perch placement is good? should I put the bowels a little higher/closer/further? -edit is the cement placement also good? should i have it a certain way, he likes to stand on the edge.
-
Thank you so much Dan. The owner made sure for him to sleep inside his cage usually (I think) I will ask today. There was in fact one of those perches inside his cage that you couldn't see in that picture (It was in the top left corner) I have moved it outside his cage for him to stand here instead, great idea! I can NOT move the perch inside his cage because it wont come out.. unless I take the screws out of the perch which doesn't seem possible. Here is his set up now, I moved the bowels a little lower for him. Please give me ANY advice possible, especially to get him to go into his cage. I will refrain from feeding him .. but if he makes too much noise I got to or else he may end up bothering the neighbors. It also seems to me he wants to be as high as possible, I placed the cement perch like 8 inches lower and he went on it and left to go back onto something higher, so I moved it as far high as I could and now he is chilling on it.

What do I do
-
My boy will not even go into his cage when hungry! he will scream until I hold the bowl in front of his face to eat. >_<
-
Ill try find out about the cage door.. if anyone knows if it will be bad for his feet please say so. The cage is a old version of this http://www.amazon.com/Prevue-Hendryx-Signature-Select-Wrought/dp/B000TZ72CA I ordered a additional perch for him... I am thinking of mounting it outside of his cage so he could stand there instead if he wants to be outside his cage so that it will be better for his feet. Please if anyone can add some input on what I should do
-
He slept on the cage door last night and didn't move anywhere throughout the night, he is a good boy so far. The owner said he wont destroy any furniture Any idea how I can get him to enjoy going into his cage? Picture (This is the same cage he spent the past year in with his previous owner)
-
He is sleeping on his cage door tonight, any suggestions would be appreciated.
-
Thank you everyone! He certainly is nicely groomed, he touches himself up all day long. One major question: So since I have had him he DESPISES being inside his cage and only likes to hang out on the cage door. Should I allow him to sleep here too? Will he own me / get used to it and never sleep in his cage? Any recommendations.. This is only his second night here. The first night he spent in his cage because when I took him out of the travelers cage; I opened it inside his cage and then closed it. But it seems like he is going to want to permanently just hang out on top of the cage door as he has for the past 16 hours
