She has a very colorful personality! I wonder how much of that is her natural personality and how much is coming from her going to school with me nearly every day and being surrounded by children? (I teach special education at a public elementary school)

Welcome! I too, came here before we brought a parrot into our lives. This site has continued to be an amazing place to continue to be a part of and I appreciate the frank advice received. I think it is wonderful that you are asking many questions. I do not have the level of experience as others here do, so I can mainly offer a warm welcome. Our Nala will be one year old this next week and our lives are so blessed by her addition to our family. I'm fortunate that I am able to take her to work with me, but I do leave her home one day a week so she learns to also be home by herself. I leave a parrot babysitter DVD on when gone. I think you are doing great with your research!

We will be moving out of this rental into our home in June. We want to get a much larger cage for Nala (almost 11 months CAG) to go in the sunroom we are having added to the house for Nala. I worry about the bars in a big cage being too widely spaced. I also have no idea where to look. I will talk to the gal we bought her from but I also want to see if the experts here can advise us. Her current cage at home is fine, but we want to give her more space as she loves to be rambunctious with her toys in her cage and also loves to hold onto the side and exercise her wings. We want to provide a quiet zone, wide space for wing flapping, and also lots of toys and perches for her to enjoy. The cage she is currently in will become another space for her in our family room since she always goes where we do. She is out of her cage most of the time but chooses to go in and play quite often. She does go to school with me 3-4 days per week. She is home by herself every Wednesday and when the weather is warm, will be either Sat or Sun. I appreciate any help and suggestions as to where to look for a grey safe, big cage. Budget......I'd like to stay under $2,000.00 if that is possible. Michelle

Or do I need to go only with beeswax? If so, where do you order beeswax candles online? avitec.com is always out of the beeswax. Our dogs are making our house smell, it's noticeable now that we can no longer use doggie perfume or candles/oil lamps etc.... Keeping Nala safe is #1, therefore I'm asking and not just believing what I read online at other places. Thanks.

Wonderful gift! I never thought about using a steamer to clean the cage! I have a handheld test came as a bonus when we purchased our floor steamer. I'll try it next time I clean Nalas cage. Merry Christmas!

I only noticed this because Nala is right next to me and when she pooped, when it hit the towel it had bubbles on it. The bubbles popped right away. The color is normal. I read too much into her droppings. My husband tells me I did this with our human children also. However, is this ok? Thanks.

Congrats and welcome. I don't have advice, as I'm new and have an eight month old female CAG. I'm so glad you have her....what a sad story! My heart goes out to her previous owners.

We've been teaching her those two for a couple weeks and she's got them! Of course she won't do them at school when I ask her to! However she will do "bat bird" when given the verbal prompt at school and even did it for the school psychologist! (One of the adults who will handle Nala)

I'm by no means an expert as we are new grey people. Our CAG is now 8 months old. She is "in love " with my 14 yr old son, however she spends more time with me since she goes to my classroom and is exposed to all kinds of sounds and people there. She only regurgitates for my son and it is obvious he is "the one", but she allows me to do avert thing with her that my son does. However, she lets him scratch her head longer etc...which is an additional confirmation that he is her favorite. We are doing everything we can to socialize her widely. I'm the one who has wanted a grey (since I was a girl) and we got her to fulfill that lifelong dream. That said, she chose who her "love" is!!
