  1. Yes, they are called flour/grain moths. We have them as well. You do need to keep your bird food stored in the fridge. Air tight containers don't work, as the lava is already present in the seed, and it will hatch if left at room temperature for a long period of time. Judygram is correct, the best way to rid them, is to use the moth traps. You can purchase them at the pet store, or the supermarket. They are very cheap. IN the mean time, the fastest way at my house to get rid of them, is to leave a glass of apple juice out on the counter/table wherever. They are attracted to it, and in the am, they will be quite a few in the glass, you can leave it there for a couple of days, just dump it out, and start again. They tend to come out in the evenings, and prefer to land on anything that is white. So they will appear on white things ceilings, walls, etc. In the mean time, try to find the source, that means really inspecting the foods you have, and getting rid of any signs of them. And ESPECIALLY, change the birds food daily. good luck to you, it takes a while to get rid of them all, but it can be done by being persistent.
  2. Hi Dennis, Thank you for posting a photo of you. It's great to see what our members look like. I look forward to hearing all you have to share with us after 14 years. You must have some great experiences and advice!
  3. Makena, that's a great check up! You two are wonderful parents! I'm sure you'll get the lice problem taken care of quick enough, good luck with that. Let us know how it goes.
  4. My vet always says to keep our birds out of the cold draft. It's too hard on them, and they are more apt to come down with a respiratory infection. But others here may have different advice and information.
  5. Tari, these are little darlings. I'm happy you shared them, I was wondering when I would get to see them!!! Beccy, never ask for anything, as Judy says, JUST DO IT! They get over it quick enough, and eventually learn to just shake their head and walk away. If you don't train him right. and do it now, you'll have trouble later....... :pinch: :silly: :side:
  6. How adorable! thank you for sharing those photo's with us!!:cheer:

  8. Yes, I would like this to continue, and maybe set up a poll like Tari did to vote on. I for one, would love to buy a t-shirt from this forum, or 2 or 3 or 4. :cheer: :cheer:
  9. Zooky, I'm sorry to hear about Mende, but I know he will adapt, as he knows no other way. He is one lucky bird to be with such a loving person who will spoil him into his old age, and then some. I agree with the others on the life expectancy, there are many factors involved in determining how long they could live. Best of luck to you on Monday, I hope it's good news! Please let us know, my thought and prayers are with you.
  10. Congratulations! I'm very happy for you!! Hope all goes well these first few day! Please keep us posted, and I can't wait to see pictures....:woohoo:

    chewing

Beccy, have you ever tried opsicle sticks? You can buy them in any craft store. Talon loves to chew those up, and they are very cheap to buy. Maybe it would satisfy both the desire to chew wood easily enough, and keep him away from the harmful chemicals of the paint or varnish.
