Parroletes

I have just received a pair of parroletes. The female attacks and the male is very passive. They are a year old, and I am their 3rd home. Should I just have them as looking glass pets, a breeding pair, or how do I train them to be hand held birds.... anyone know much about these small babies.

If you're still looking for info I have a little parrotlet, Sprite, a male. He is a tad over a year old now and is in maniac stage. Super sweetheart until breeding season kicked in with the hormones, now he attacks everything. Some days are better than others but I take him out daily regardless. Very intelligent little birds - I would say do everything you can to get them to be hand trained. Little Sprite can do a couple of tricks and has quite the vocabulary. How old are they? Will they step up? Like I said if you still need help I'd be happy to answer any/all specific questions!

P.S...a little side note....since it is breeding season and depending on where you live one of the biggest factors in knowing it is breeding season is an extension of daylight hours. Try slowly decreasing the number of daylight hours per day down to around 12-14 by covering their cage. I've noticed that it has calmed Sprite quite a bit.

Parrotlets can be really neat little birds. As their name implies, they are small parrots and act like them!

They can be VERY aggressive toward other birds, very active and can be a really nice bird to their human buddies if you work with them. This is one very important issue - you have to work with them alot to maintain a relationship or they have a tendency to revert fairly quickly.

I have my female that was hand fed - GREAT little bird.
