davek85
I just watched a video called "Captive Foraging" by Dr. Scott Echols. My vet loaned the video to me suggesting that I build a "foraging tree" for my CAG, Wilma. It looks real easy to do. I'm going to build one. It looks like fun for both Wilma and me. Has anyone else seen this video or built a foraging tree?
Talon
Never seen it, but I would love to see what it's about!

DavidH
Yes, sounds cool. I just bought this http://store.wptestore.com/servlet/Detail?no=109&sfs=ec082ca4 from the World Parrot Trust store. Part of the proceeds go to support the NGO. Has anyone tried this foraging toy or similar ones?
DavidH
P.S. I found it especially interesting that in the video the narrator said that for foraging to be optimally successful it should replace bowl-feeding. In other words, if the bird has the bowl option, s/he will forage less.
Christina
I have the video, but did not build a foraging tree. I did take the advice and make most food that our birds get in their cages a foraging opportunity. I use small dixie cups, plain paper and the corn husks (the ones you buy in the grocery store to make some mexican foods). I do put some food in their bowls, but the rest go into these containers and are put all over the cage. Both of my birds find almost every piece of hidden food and Finnigan usually doesn't touch what is in the bowl, even if its the same thing as the hidden food. It's a great idea and they seem to enjoy the "hunt".
Luvparrots
Ana Grey likes to forage, this video does sound interesting. Something I might look into. Thanks for the input.
she
Charlie loves to forage. He has a toy box in his cage and I hide treats in bits of paper and kitchen roll tubes and in toys. He usually finds them. I did buy him a foraging toy but he broke it within ten minuites.
