DavidH
Shanti went to the vet today. Turns out that -- contrary to what the appts. secretary told me -- she's not an avian vet. But the good news is she is super a regular certified vet who is super well-informed on greys because owns her own CAG, which she rescued from euthanasia several years ago! Anyway, Shanti is in good health and weighing in at 450 g. I got some free Harrison's samples, so we'll see how that goes. Now for the fun part: The vet took a blood sample which I am mailing today to avianbiotech.com to find out Shanti's gender. The breeder swore Shanti was male, based on 30 yrs experience and intuitions about the general size of the bird. But we'll see. What's your guess? judygram
I usually choose female in these guessing the sex of a grey polls but this time I am going with male, I might be wrong but hey I have a 50% chance of being right. :silly:
Dave007
Transgender--probably needs some direction in life so it's up to you to do the right thing. Thats when the main thing will peek out to explore or stay in to wash the dishes.

shanlung
I have poor track record on psychic revellations as to sex of parrot from my flipping and flopping of Riamfada. A friend wrote to me her Macaw was DNAed to be male until a year later after that test, that BG laid an egg.

Char
My psychic powers tell me it is male. I am psychic. I knew my grey was female even though everyone else thought male including the avian vet.

DavidH
As a bonus for ONE of the psychic winners, I will donate $15 to your favorite animal or human charity. Here's why: I was so excited with the blood sample that I was on the verge of sending it FED EX to the lab. In the end, my cheapness won the battle with my excitement, and I went with the $0.42 stamp, saving approx. $15. HOW TO WIN: I will post the sexing results here as soon as I get them. The first person to post back and say, "I told you so!" wins the $15 donation in his or her name.

Kaedyn
Hmm. This is a hard one. Can we have some clues? How's your bird's driving? Does it talk on the phone a lot? While driving? Ok. Ok. Just kidding!
Sallas
You mean does it do it's make up while driving?
Kaedyn
That too! I can see our karma dropping really fast if we don't stop right now with this train of comments.
Lyric
What fun... I'm going to guess Shanti is a male. David, I'm just wondering what you think based on Shanti's personality? Do you generally think of Shanti as a boy or girl?
DavidH
I've been thinking male, but that's probably because the breeder assured me -- no doubt about it! -- that he was male. That sort of programmed the whole family to address him as a male and talk about him as "he." We'll see.
DavidH
P.S. to everyone: I called the lab today and they received the sample this morning. Results --- ta da!!!! -- will be in tomorrow around 3 or 4 p.m. EST/USA. I will be posting here ASAP and the first winner who posts "I told you so, I'm psychic," wins the prize. So far 78% of voters (7 of 9) say male.
Tycos_mom
I say that your bird is definatly a male. he doesn't have the long neck of a female. So from my experiance. I say you have a male

shanlung
I think I will fire up my Ouja board and try for that prize. Or perhaps I go and consult my I-Ching with yarrow stalks.
Sallas
I am sorry about the female and driving comment, yesterday morning I had gotten run off the road by someone not paying attention while they were driving due to applying make-up. She was not paying attention and swerved into my lane. It had just caught me at a bad time.
