She may not Dave, my Josey does not care for almonds either and I give her the shelled ones, just because most do love them doesn't mean all will, just like we all have our favorite foods and things we don't like.

davek85, Ana Grey loves, peanuts, pecans, walnuts, pumpkin and safflower seeds, but almonds she tosses. Go figure!!! Only the peanut and pumpkin seeds are in shells.

:blink: I have been told about this and decided to consult a few people and i have been told that by microwaving a nut for 8 to 10 seconds it completly cures the nut and takes any badness out i dont know if any of this is correct but would be interested to here other peoples points of view

Yes I throw the peanuts out too. Perhaps I will offer human grade peanuts one day.

Thanks Dave for the information. I have discussed this with Kookies vet, since Kookie really likes shelled peanuts. He told me that even human grade shelled peanuts might carry a lot of germs or even micro-organisms that might cause worms and diseases to the bird. He suggested to heat the oven and bake the peanuts for a period of 5 to 10 minutes. This will kill most germs, but its important not to keep them longer so that they wouldnt over-roast or burn. Ive been doing that and Kookie seems to still like them after baking.
