Shaz
Phoenix seems to grind his beak for about 5 mins before he goes to sleep. Is this normal ? Has anyone else experienced this ?
ZoesDad
Hi Shaz, Beak grinding is a very normal behaviour at bedtime. My Grey does the same. (So did my conure.)
Shaz
Thanks for that, it was getting louder lately and was a little concerned.
Caspersmum
Hey Shaz To my understanding it's a sign that they're really content - someone described it as the parroty equivalent of cleaning their teeth! Julia

estream
Ditto, Chloe's grinding was alarming at first ... not to mention cringe worthy lol ... happily it's all good :-) note to Zoe's dad - Chloe keeps insisting on using the name Zoe quite a bit lately lol :-) Maybe I'm watching too much West Wing lol :-) Congrats on your new family member :-) Wonderful picture! ZoesDad
Thanks Estream Funny to hear that Chloe is saying Zoe as I came very close to naming Zoe Chloe!
Guest Monique
Beak grinding is very normal. Would worry if they didn't do it!!
estream
lol ZoesDad quite poetic! I came close to doing the same thing with the name Zoe myself lol :-) How is Zoe doing in her first weeks with you? How are you finding life with a grey?
ZoesDad
Hi estream To put it succinctly, life with a Grey has brought out certain aspects of my character of which I was only vaguely aware! They are unlike dogs or cats and I think I can now understand why some people have compared living with these little birds to living with children. estream
I couldn't agree more :-) They certainly have a way of revealing the best in us ... not to mention encouraging endless reflection over the myriad meanings of everything from verbal to physical communication and the significance of pasta paintings on my once upon-a-prestine wall ... I'm going with artistic expression, or maybe interpretive dance, like those blue guys on television? Yep, it's official, way too much time on my hands, and a clear need for sleep lol :-) A bird does not sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song. always dug that quote. ZoesDad
Very well put estream! Pay attention, those of you contemplating the addition of a Grey to your lives. I don't think I've ever read or heard of anyone refer to them as vehicles of self-discovery but that's exactly what they can be!
estream
Mahalo! Expect the unexpected It sounds a little hinky, but they truly do have a way of revealing the very best in us. They see, and when they do, it encourages us to see too :-) And here endeth my sappy thoughts ... for now! be afraid, be very afraid :-)
Guest Monique
When our old grey was especially ticked at us for giving her too many pellets and not enough seed she used to soak her pellets in water and then hurl them upon the wall ... where they would solidify into permanent 3-D art. Try getting THAT off. Holy cow!
Guest
Oh Monique that's pretty keen
estream
monique :-) I hear you :-) I've found "poop-off" works wonders with hardened food pellets! Although you should prepare for a rather offended grey if you should clean it up in their presence lol :-)
