Perch
I was having no luck at all generating interest in the small plastic toys; even though they are colorful. Heck, I like them LOL. Anyway, I happened across a thread that said something about twine or rope being interesting for the birds. I tied up a knot ball from some twine that I bought for under three dollars. Then I stuck some shelled almonds inside...and it was a hit! Does anyone have other make-at-home toy ideas? I also tried initiating interactive toy play. I can tell this will take a while. Carolyn
Mika loves his strings, I take string and wrap a almond in cupcake papers and then tie it on the string, the next one is a raisen wraped, the next one a piece of walnut. He never no's what is in it till he rips of the paper and that is half the fun and keeps him amused for hours. I space then about 7-8 inches down the string and tie it on the side of his cage. Luvparrots
I like these great ideas for treat wraps. Its simple and easy and sounds like greys really enjoy the mystery of it all--and the tasty food, of course:lol: Thanks for sharing!!!
siobha9
Perch, that is a great idea to keep your grey interested. I am sure he must get great pleasure out of untying the rope to find the treat;)
Toni
Buy coffee filters. String a couple at a time, then a couple beads, add more coffee filters, beads again, do this couple more times then tie it to a clamp.
Laurie
An easy, free one is to take an empty toilet tissue tube, fold one end closed, put a treat inside, then crimp the other end closed. Klaus loves ripping the tube apart to get the treat or toy.
TinyTimneh
get a durable empty bottle (like a big gatorade bottle) wash it out, let it dry and then stuff it with all kinds of paper and nuts/seeds/toys, whatever you bird likes best. Then, place it on the bottom of the cage or wherever and let him play with it. Try placing a few easy-to-get treats at first to get him intrigued. it'll take him a really long time to manipulate all the stuff out of the top opening in the bottle and keep him occupied for a while. i've also heard about using loofahs (those poufs people use in the shower to wash with) and hiding treats etc in the folds. But i haven't tried it yet so be careful if you use it.
TerriW
I have been looking for some toy ideas. Diego's toy budget was getting a little out of control, lol. He has been eating a $10-$15 toy about every 2 days. These are some great ideas. THANKS!

Lyric
Great ideas everyone. Making your own toys can be rewarding and much cheaper than relying on store bought toys. Check out the dollar stores for cheap toy making parts. I bought a package of 5 plastic wiffle balls for $1.00 at mine. I intend to stuff one full of various items that Lyric can have fun pulling out of the holes.
