drewgrey
Hello everyone. My name is Drew and I think this website and forum is amazing!! I found this site about 5 months ago after I got home from a local pet shop. I was shopping for a dog and thought I would check out the hyacinth macaw the store has because he was out of his cage and being friendly(amazingly beautiful bird, was just back again today 8/3/08 and they have a chick for sale for 11K:ohmy: ). As I was watching him "cookie" dance I felt a little foot step on my shoulder followed by another. Then a little grey and white face turned infront of my face and a nice "hello" was said. I said hello back and was instantly in love. I don't have my Grey yet as I'm still doing research and reading on this site. Plus I'm getting married soon and am going to buy a house.(Don't want a parrot in an apartment)Just thought it would be good to join and ask questions if I can't find any answers on the site. And sorry for the long first post. Just thought I would share my story as corney as it may be.
Lyric
Welcome Drewgrey! They definitely can steal your heart away can't they? I'm glad you are doing your research before you get your bird though- it is quite commendable of you!
drewgrey
Thank you Lyric. I like to know what I'm getting myself into with my purchases. Especially something that is alive. So far I think a Grey would be a great companion for myself and wife to be. We have hedgehogs as well and talk to them and they just sniff and sniff and then eventually hiss at us. It will be nice to have something that talks back and shows some love.
siobha9
Hi Drewgrey and welcome to the forum. The fact that you have been doing your research for some time will mean that when the time comes to get your grey, firstly you will know pretty much what to expect and secondly you will also appreciate what a wonderful bird they are. I wish you the best in your search and be sure to let us know when you do get your grey In the mean time please ask as many questions as you like Siobhan

drewgrey
Thanks everyone. I'm already learning a lot on this site. And Kitty has got it right, Greys do not get owned, they do the owning. Sounds like a blast though and can't stop watching youtube videos of them singing and stuff. Too good. If I do end up getting one, I hope it's like that. If not, I'll love it all the same because they seem to have an attitude if they are talking or not.
judygram
Hello Drew and welcome to the family, so glad you did find us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey. Congrats on catching the grey fever and Kitty is right on, we are owned by our greys and not vice versa. You are certainly doing the right thing in researching and reading all you can before you finally bring home that lovely creature. Have you ever had any parrots before? Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. When you get a chance to get some pics of this greys if you would share a few with us as we would love to see it.
drewgrey
Yeah, I def got the grey fever. This would be my first parrot. I do salt water reef aquariums. Completely different but still a demanding hobby. The important thing is that my fiance wants one as much as I do and we research together and plan together. I think we will give a grey a great home. We are planning this bird as though we are having a kid. The grey at the pet shop was one of the workers pets. She brought him in because she knew it would be a slow day and wanted someone to talk to. I'm sure she'll bring it in again and hopefully I will have my camera ready. They do have 3 CAG chicks and 2 TAG chicks that will be ready to go soon. Meaning I will be going to play with them and hopefully be making a purchase. Sorry for the horrible grammar and typing errors, I work nights and am extremely tired right now.:silly:

Post edited by: drewgrey, at: 2008/08/06 14:
judygram
Thats great that the both of you want one for in some homes only one wants it as in my situation, all the better for the bird. I wish you good luck on getting your grey, you won't be disappointed and I look forward to seeing a pic when you can manage it.
