Tycos_mom
My Cocateil kept breaking all his tail feathers he's down to one long feather on his tail. the rest are starting to come in now but I didn't want him to keep breaking them so I gave him a new cage yesterday and it huge compared to the one he was in the other one was a love bird cage but he was only 4 weeks old when I got him so I didn't want to put him in to big of a cage back then. Now I put him. in a cage that is 22x22 and he seems to be scared to move but it was the only cage I had left with 1/2 inch bar spacing it is a castiron parrot cage with a dome top and it does have vertical bars on each side so he should be able to climb he just looks so small and helpless in there. I hope he will adjust to it right now he's just sitting there not moving and has been since I put him in there yesterday.
casper
Hiya Pat, Ive never changed a cage for my birds yet but just this week I changed a perch for one of my greys and you would think it was on fire as he puts one foot on then jumps straight back off! I think it will just take time for the adjustment and just think of all that lovely space for your tiel now. As long as there are familiar toys and perches in the cage I think things will settle and he will be loving his new home soon. Caroline
tarnold
Finally a bird I know something about! When I adopted Elvis he came with a very small cage. After about 4 weeks I bought him a much bigger cage. I couldn't stand to see him all crambed up in his original one. He turned into a devil bird at first but eventually got use to it. It took about 6 weeks before he was acting normal again(he's still a devil  ). I would just give him time and keep familiar items around him. lovemyGreys
Pat as Caroline & tarnold have said surround him with familiar things & in time he will come round.I changed my tiels cage before they went outdoors in my aviary, they were a little cautious at first but they soon adapt. Tycos_mom
I put all his old things in his new cage like his happy hut and swing, toys and I add a couple new thing also but all his old stuff is in therehe just looks so tiny and afraid and quiet I haven't heard him talk all day. I opened his cage door and put him on top of the cage a few minutes ago he seem a little better and he did climb down to get some food a couple times I guess he'll be okay I'm like an old mother hen watching over her chicksLOL
