poppyparrot
hello there, i am just new so dont be harsh, and my spelling, well, its crap :Phaha This is long but i need the help thanks. I got my CAG at the end of last year and its just about 8 months old now. When we got her we had her in a big cage in the dining room which is joint onto the living room, every time we would leave her she wasnt very happy, (scratching on the cage etc) so we moved her into a prime position in the living room becuase we felt she didnt like being left alone in the ajacent room. During her time in the dining room we noticed her red tail fethers were a bit tatty and not in the best condition. 8 months on and her tail fethers and the sides of her wings and still tatty and torn, but she dosnt have clear signs of plucking. She grooms herself like anyother bird, so i cant see how it happening. Are her fethers not growing back after what she must have done as a young chick? So i would like advice on that please. Another thing, She has just started talking and is quite good at it But since she has started to talk she has been getting more and more agressive, she bites us when we want her to step up onto our fingers, and i think she sees it as a game, but you lot are the experts so can you help me out on this aswell! thank you. much appriciated
lovemyGreys
How often do you bathe/spray her ? Greys can play a little rough sometimes & knock their feathers which gives them that tatty look.she will be going through her first molt very soon & they will be replaced.I doubt very much it is anything to do with her when she was chick. When she bites you need to tell her in a firm voice "NO",return her to her cage or play stand for a few minutes & completely ignore her.Do not react in anyway to the biting,in time she will learn that biting is not acceptable & she gains nothing from doing so.Always praise positive behaviour & ignore bad behaviour. Lyric
They do like being where the action is so to speak- they consider themselves part of your flock, to be left alone is to be left vulnerable. It is possible that she may have been picking at her feathers when you weren't around. If she is now getting lots of attention and feels like a bigger part of your family that should help.
