Matt
I think it would be cool for my bird to be up on his perch, and me lift my arm up and have him fly over to me. Is this something that I can train my Grey to do once I get him? And also, I think it would be awesome for him to be able to go fly around outside on a harness.

Post edited by: Matt, at: 2008/05/13 21:
judygram
Yes that is something you can teach your grey to do and also being able to take your grey outside on a harness, just do a search and you will find several threads dealing with both subjects Matt. lovemyGreys
Matt you can train him to fly to you with time & patience, you need to put him on his stand & make sure he stays there, raise your arm & give him a command to fly to you, use the same command everytime so he recognises it.Reward him with a treat or plenty of praise everytime he flys to you. Here is a thread on harness training.. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-nursery/73556-harness-training.html

bettyboop
Hi Matt , I agree with lovemygrey 's advice , but to make it much easier to start with find his/her favorite treat .Hold it up to keep the attention on you, then keep showing the treat to the bird , and they will fly to you . After a while they will fly to you because they know they are going to get the treat . I taught My Alexandrine at 6 months to do this , now all I have to say is Zsa Zsa COME , hold up my arm and she will fly to me . My Grey had already been taught this so all we have to say to him is Sammy come here and he does it everytime .It takes a lot of practice at first , so don't give up .Good Luck , you are going to be great with a GREY!!!!! shanlung
lovemyGreys, I am just passing on what I learned from other giants, such as that birdwhisperer of Tsaoling. And what I was taught by Tinkerbell and Yingshiong. Pay attention to your beasties, they know more then you think. Training works both ways. Jaco1007
Hi My baby CAG, Jaco, has learned to fly to me if I go into another room. I just leave him on his perch and he has learned to fly to me. As for landing on my arm, that's another story. He only flies to me and no one else. He mostly flies to the bathroom to watch me shower. (I know he's a little Peeping Tom). I don't know if it's something you want. He is really attached to me. It's sometimes hard to get him to stay on his perch and not fly to me. He is coming close to landing on my shoulder. He's just very curious and wondering what his Daddy is doing. It's cute, but then also not.

My grey has got so skilled at flying, she can fly down the hall, do a 180 turn, fly up the stairs and into the office to find me. But then again she could be sitting on top of her cage 10ft away and I ask her to fly to me and she just sits there looking at me:unsure: It would be nice if she would fly to me when I ask her to, and not when I dont. But thats an ideal world, she has her own little mind, and I suppose I am kind of flattered that she goes to such effort to be with me:blush:
