AyaBrea Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Bella has always had a very beautiful red tail, but of late the feathers have taken on white splotches when they grow. The other day we found four of her little red feathers on the ground. What could be happening? Is this caused by stress, nutritional deficiency, her biting at them (she has not really been one to pluck)? If it is nutritional, what do I need to give her to supplement it?
danmcq Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Hello Ayabrea and welcome!! When feathers grow in with abnormal splotching or coloration as you describe, it normally indicates a diet insufficiency or an underlying health issue. I would advise you to take Bella to a good Avian vet to get to the bottom of this.
kimmie_30 Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 i have never heard of anything like that of course im new to the grey world. i do read alot on them, i would take bella to the vet. to see what is going on with her.
judygram Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I agree with Dan, it might be some kind of deficiency in her diet but in any case a vet visit might be in order expecially if it has been a while since Bella has seen one.
AyaBrea Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 Thank you all very much. We figured it was most likely to be some deficiency. We have a vet appointment scheduled for next Monday
danmcq Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Thanks for the update AyaBrea. Please let us know the outcome of the Vet visit. We all learn from each others experience and we also care about each and everyone of these lovely beings. :-)
judygram Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Thats a wise decision to take Bella in for a vet visit and please let us know what you find out. BTW, love your avatar, clever!!!
