fairymyst78 Posted April 19, 2008 Share Posted April 19, 2008 Ok I have been reading up to get myself prepared for "parrot" proofing my home by August when I bring my new baby grey home. I am a little confused on the dishwasher though...Can I still use it? Is the soap detergent safe in it? I am so worried about bad fumes killing my bird and honestly can't find an answer to this. I know it is bad for the bird to ingest the detergent but is it dangerous to use the dishwasher with a bird in the home? If so, what can I use in the dishwasher that is safe? Things that make a difference: detergent, rince stuff, materials that are porous, and who knows what. I can't see using one of them for such any easy job. LOL - I run my dishwasher and I have two cockatiels and now an African Grey, no problem whatsoever. I spray air freshener in the bathroom off my kitchen, and that's not a problem either, as long as you don't spray it directly near them. But I had not realized how many things I use in this house that I should not around birds, until I started reading these boards and what not. I burn Partylite candles LOTS, I think that is the one thing I will have to give up that I am actually bummed about. Oh and I have plug ins air fresheners too! At least I know now! I don't think we have anything to worry about when using our dishwashers, frankly I never gave it any thought.
