judygram
Now just what kind of dogs are all these and what are their names? I assume they all get along with each other from the photos it appears they do. I especially love the last one, that is so sweet of the two of them curled up on the sofa, thanks Claire for sharing them with us. BTW, I can also tell that one of them is a boy, heh heh!!

ClaireBear
The red ones are called Dogue De Bordeaux's (aka French Mastiff) I don't know if you ever saw the movie Turner and Hooch with Tom Hanks or "The Italian Job" but they are in both of those movies. They are a rare breed and there are only about 3,000 registered in the US. They are mother and son. Dozer and Kibbles. The fawn is a Doberman and the others obviously chihuahuas. ClaireBear
They do all get along as the large dogs know better (they have been taught). The little ones are actually the bad ones. They nip the big one and won't let them near the couch
siobha9
Do the French Mastiff really drool as much as Hooch did? Great movie and gorgeous dogs!
ClaireBear
The male does but the mother only when she drinks. He will actually sling the drool up and catch it in his mouth (disgusting, I know)

judygram
I thought those dogs looked familiar, yes I did see that movie Turner and Hooch, do they really slobber like that? Yes I recognized the doberman and the chihuahuas but I wasn't sure about the other two, they are all nice and healthy looking, but you must go thru a lot of dog food, not for the two chihuahuas but the others can put away a lot of food. Thanks for sharing them with us Claire.
ClaireBear
About a 40 lb. bag every 6 days for the big dogs. When my boyfriend and I met, he had the rottie and the doberman and I had the mastiffs. Then there was 4. Then we thought we needed a little dog: Chihuahua 1. Then we felt bad that it was too small to play with the big dogs: Chihuahua 2! I have a sign in my house that says "Welcome to the Zoo" I used to show hunter jumpers competitively and hurt my back so up until recently we also had 2 miniature horses in our back yard
judygram
I don't know whether I could take that drool, when I watched that Hanks movie that was a little disgusting to watch. But you obviously take very good care of all your dogs and I agree, chihuahuas don't listen at all do they, my daughter has one and he is a mess. ClaireBear
The wall wiping is constant. He drools mostly when people are over as he gets excited so I will hook a towel in his collar for easy drool wiping access. They aren't a long lived breed. The mother is 6 1/2 and the male is 5. 8 years is a long life for them. The only thing that i won't miss will be the drool! This is the funniest picture of the mother. judygram
Gosh 8 years is not long is it, wow what a short life span but you enjoy them while you have them. Yeah I would imagine they would drool more when excited and putting a towel in the collar is a good idea for quick clean up. Now when these are gone will you replace them with more just like them for you seem to love them very much?
ClaireBear
I do adore them, they mean the world to me. However, I most likely will not get more. Being a rare breed, there is a lot of inbreeding in their lines which has caused a lot of health problems. On top of their initial expensive $1,800 purchase price, I have spent about $10,000 on surgeries for various conditions. They both have bad hips as well so I don't think I will be getting more. I hope they just live forever! I do believe that once the dogs are gone (the rott is 7 and the dobie 6) we will just keep the little dogs and the birds. They are enough work! sandra902
thank you thank you claire! (i LOVE rotties) my GSD, inga, has bad hips too. she will be 8 this year and still going strong (knock wood). i had bad hips but had a total left hip done in 2004 and still have a few miles to go on my right one before it needs doing. but yes the larger breeds do not live as long...except my old english sheepdog that put everyone to shame and lived til 14! i know i've told this one before but when the vet asked what was our secret, the best i could do was that she liked the neighbors trash. the mastiffs are gorgeous and i will probably drool as badly as they do when you post a snap of the rottie... judygram
I hear ya, that is a lot of money to spend on dogs, but then love is not measured in dollars and cents and so for you it was worth it I'm sure. I wish they could live forever too for your sake but that is not going to happen so I hope you can keep them as long as possible. Thanks so much for sharing them with us and answering some questions about them, they are adorable in a way:P
judygram
Love the photoshop picture of all the animals except for the birds of course, what a lovely bunch they make.
ClaireBear
They give back so much more than I could ever give them. We do our best to give our animals the best life possible. I am only 23 years old and have tons of responsibility but will never complain. I have chosen them and it is my duty to give them the best life I can! For the love of animals. judygram
That is so cute Claire, they do play together even though there is so much weight and size difference between them, you have them trained very well and I commend you for your dedication to them.
