Zane Steuber Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 (edited) Oh yes, it's extremely beneficial to birds. It is considered one of the foods with high nutritional value for parrots. I was advised by a veterinarian to use red palm oil, especially for parrots with skin and feather problems, as it has many health benefits including antibacterial properties. Greytness Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 I give a small amount to my birds daily. It's vitamin A, which our greys especially need. 1
kesslertorrey Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 One thing to note is that red palm oil should be given in moderation as part of a balanced diet, and not as a primary food source. Too much fat in the diet can lead to obesity and other health problems in African greys. It is recommended to offer no more than 1-2 drops of red palm oil per day, mixed in with your bird's regular food. 1
Timbersmom Posted July 15, 2023 Posted July 15, 2023 I've been having trouble finding red palm oil. Anyone know a good, pure source?
Greytness Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 That's how I give to my fids: 1 to 2 drops daily. @timbersmom, I use Nutiva Organic RPO, which you can find on Amazon. What I like is that they grow their own and don't cultivate it by destroying the natural habitat. 1
Timbersmom Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I'll check it out, thanks. I was buying mine on Amazon and then they didn't have it any more. 1
kesslertorrey Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 (edited) As I know Nutiva is a well-known brand that offers high-quality, organic red palm oil that is sustainably sourced and unrefined. One brand I was offered is Wilderness Family Naturals which can be found on their website or in select health food stores. Edited July 27, 2023 by kesslertorrey 1
