Steevo
I recently had my African Grey at the Vets cause she chewed off 2 wing feathers. She was sedated and had to have the shafts removed as she seemed to be in pain. I came home with pain relief and all was good. Recently we’ve had an excavator digging behind our house for a new one to be built. My girl Matilda has been really stressed so we’ve been spending more time with her at the front of our house away from the scary noises. Yesterday she chewed off another 2 large wing feathers but this time the remaining feather Shafts aren’t bothering her. Just want to know if she’s as happy as she normally is and not in any pain will the Shafts fall out or moult out by themselves ?Cheers, Steve 🦜😃
neoow
Ah poor thing, unfortunately they are quite susceptible to stress and can be quite change adverse. I think you're doing all the right things, just trying to keep her calm and away from all the noise. It may be a case of just monitoring her and seeing how she goes for the time being. Ive not really had an issue with Alfie barbering his own feathers before so can't help on that one unfortunately.

The feathers she chewed off aren’t bothering her so just gunna leave her be. 😃🦜👍

Steevo
Just an update. Matilda has just plucked out her chewed feather without any dramas. So happy she has done this, now there’s only 1 to go. Here’s a pic of what she pulled out. 🦜😃
