Introducing Izzy and her family!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I wanted to introduce everyone to the newest member of our family, Izzy (Isabela Macaroni)! My name is Bob, and my wife Krystal and I adopted Izzy about a week and a half ago. She is 4 years old, and came from a happy home. Her former owner was starting school and her family worried that they wouldn't have enough time for her, and we were lucky enough to be able to provide a forever home for her! Her original home said that she had cage territoriality, and was closest to her owner's old boyfriend (awkward :) ).

So far, Izzy has been very happy in her new home. She's a big talker, and will step up without a lot of fuss. She likes her new cage (which has led to a complete lack of cage territoriality, nicely) and has been enjoying spending time with her new mom and dad in the kitchen and living rooms.

One thing that we're dealing with from the get go is that it's fairly apparent that Izzy has chosen me (Bob) as a 'mate'. Within days of being in the house, she started approaching me backwards, raising her wings and rump, and rubbing her back/bottom on my hand. I am limiting my scritches to the head and neck as to not stimulate her mating desires. She is definitely not aggressive at all towards my wife, but she does appear a bit more reluctant to allow her to approach, pick-up, or scratch her yet. It's early yet though, so we're incredibly encouraged by how open Izzy is so soon after a big change.

Looking forward to sharing our successes and challenges with all of you, and learning from all your combined experience!

Hello and welcome to the forums! Izzy is a lovely looking bird! Well done you for taking her in!

A week and a half is nothing in grey time. Izzy is still settling in to her new home, sussing everything out and probably trying to figure you all out as well. Don't be surprised if her "favourite" swaps from time to time or if her behaviours towards different people change.

Izzy has had a great introduction to your home and family. Congratulations to you and Krystal and thank you for joining us. Great intro post and with pictures yet! Nicely done. You are lucky to have such a wonderful transition into your home with her, she is clearly well loved and well prepared for her to be this sociable right from the get go.
