Flawxy
Hello Everyone, My name is Dave. I am a soon to be "Parrent" to a CAG. I visited my new companion yesterday and couldn't be more excited. I'm currently going to school to finish up my Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, so nutrition is going to be one of my biggest reasons for being here. I also have an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts, as well as a 1-year baking and pastry certificate. I'm a vegetarian, I love to cook, and I visit my local health food store 4 times a week to buy fresh, organic produce. I have eliminated all synthetic ingredients from my personal hygiene products and intend to raise my CAG with the same style of diet/lifestyle. I am currently in the process of setting up myself and my home to be parrot friendly. I have ~10 weeks of hand feeding left before my baby comes to his/her new home. I just wanted to say hello and provide my personal background. Dave

Greywings
How wonderful to have you on board, nice to know about your food background I think you will really enjoy the Grey life. They can be slow to accept new foods and new toys so get ready to practice patience and we will all enjoy hearing how the transition to your home goes. katana600
Hi Dave, welcome to the forum and thank you for joining us. It's going to be the longest wait once you hear your baby is beginning to wear, fledging and prepared to move to your home. That final week of waiting was more high anticipation than all my Christmas Eves of a lifetime. Your background is very interesting, I'm a serious dabbler and hope to learn lots of interesting things from you. For your new baby, look into Volkmann's soak and simmer. It's a bean and grain mix. You may be able to get many of the lentils, beans, wild rice and grains but I've found for the volume I make for one grey, its economical to buy the bag from Volkmann's. I cook a batch every few weeks, add red palm oil because its a beneficial nutrient our greys would get in the wild. Then I freeze daily portions, remove one from the freezer for the next day and immerse the thawed package in hot water to prepare a warm breakfast for Miss Gilbert. She also loves to have the first couple bites of warm steel cut oatmeal with almond milk from my bowl. I am looking forward to sharing many milestone moments with your newly formed flock. murfchck
Welcome and congrats! This is the beginning of a wonderful new time in your life! Cherish each moment, because in no time at all you will hear yourself saying over and over "stop that", "get down from there", "really? Why did you bite me", "please stop chewing my walls" and so on! Those are moments to cherish too, but not near as fun as the times when all they want to do is cuddle and let you pet them! (as I now have sheetrock exposed in my living room where Cotay decided to redecorate by removing the texture. I just grabbed a sharpie and wrote http://www.Cotayredecorating.com on it. lol I have given up on a normal living room!)
Flawxy
Hi and welcome. Cant wait to hear more of you new baby. I too am vegetarian but not quite as advanced as you are. Robopetz, I was in Kailua visiting a friend of mine in February of '13. Most beautiful place with the nicest people I have ever met. Once I finish my degree here on the mainland, I plan to end up there eventually. within the next 5 years. The first thing I did was check the restricted species list for HI and fortunately our Greys are not on that list. I understand the move will probably be the the most stressful thing the bird will ever have to go through, but I look forward to building an outdoor aviary for him/her to enjoy during the day. It's just not feasible here with our terrible Michigan weather. I even found a breeder on Oahu. I'm glad to be here and will update as often as I can.
