[h=1]Cockatoos teach each other tool-making tricks[/h] 3 September 2014 Last updated at 00:12 BST

Goffin cockatoos have shown an impressive ability to learn from one another how to use and even how to make tools.

A team of researchers has discovered that the birds emulate tool-making tricks when they are demonstrated to them by another bird.

In this clip, the "innovator" bird, named Figaro, demonstrates to another caged bird how to make and use a food retrieving stick.

In the second scene, the bird that has seen the demonstration emulates Figaro's skills.

Well she was living in an area near a pair of Goffins in her last residence...may have picked up some tips on break outs. My U2 Harry was just as good he and hubby had an engineering competition that lasted about a year before hubby won that contest. He drilled holes in the cage frame inserted eye screws, ran a threaded rod through that with giant washers followed by wing nuts. A little challenging to feed and water but very effective.
